Hi all,
Anyone got any funny old wives tales that they have been told that will help them concieve?
Laying with a pillow under your bum to help with gravity! I say it's an old wive's tale cos all the times we did that - nothing. When we didn't it happened!!
LOL Sarah.........that one was the one I was thinking of too...........I have laid there like an idiot more times than I care to remember (no doubt all the "Old Wives" whoever the are would have been laughing themselves silly at me!) Like you, the one time I didn't prop myself up (because i was too drunk!) we concieved!!
Anyone else?
My friends and I have this long running joke about old wives tales and pregnancy, you know, you've probably heard the ones about "well if you get heartburn, you'll have a hairy baby" or "you're carrying it all out in front (whatever that means) so you're having a boy" etc, so we jokingly say "if you pick up a piece of lint off the floor, you're going to have a baby"
Old wives tales are so silly!! :smt118
I agree that most of them are daft.......however.........my granny once told me that when I was ready to start a family I should get a pair of yellow booties and put them in a safe place in my home.
When it was time for us to start TTC, I had forgotten all about it, but she hadn't, and knitted me a pair of adorable yellow booties and gave them to me just before I left to live in Darwin. Two months later: pregnant!
(I have since loaned this pair of bootees to a friend.......she got pregnant 3 weeks after recieving them!)
So, yep, old wifes tales are daft. Or are they?! LOL!
What about the old wives tale that says when you're hanging out the washing and a kookaburra sits on the fence and laughs at you......We only have the blue-winged variety here and they don't laugh, they just make a hideous racket, am I doomed? :help:
I've also heard that old wives tale, but I was told any colour booties!
Jo
I haven't heard that old wives tale. I was always under the impression that it is bad luck to "jump the gun" IYKWIM. I'm dying to go out and buy some baby close etc but thought it would be bad luck to do that before I get pregnant. Maybe just one little pair of booties doesn't hurt then??
Karen
Karen..........I am with you there. We were TTC for 3 long years before Olivia came along and I was terrified of "tempting fate" buy buying anything to do with babies............so I restricted myself to my one pair of yellow boottees. (And the occasional wishful little look in Baby Target!)
hey bel, if they dont work this time maybe the will next time. i mean if you want to get all scientific about it then perhaps the booties should be in the house before ovualation.

The old 'jumping the gun' wives tale may have some truth to it. My DH calls my spare room (nursery-to-be) "BabyCo" because of all the stuff I already have, and so far no success. I do have a pair of little yellow socks but they are tucked away in a box, so maybe I should get them out and rock them to sleep each night and give them a special little place of their own - sounds crazy, but would be worth it if it worked huh!?
Thinking I might have to take up knitting if that doesnt work :D
Scientific, hey. Isnt this whole conversation based purely on science! LOL

Olivia and I had lunch today with a lovely friend of ours. Joanie is an older lady, & very wise. We got onto the conversation about fertility/concieving babies.......she has 4 kids, so I reckon she knows her stuff!
Anyway, she is of aboriginal descent and works for the Dept of Health up here in the Territoty & spends a lot of time on outback communities. The combination of her heritage and her work means that she is very familiar with ancient old wives tales, especially in connection with fertility!
She was telling me that if you are struggling to have babies, her cultutal advice is "take out you earrings and eat greens".......apparently this is a well known "old wives tale" and she couldn't believe I had never heard it!
Here is the spooky bit........when I first moved to Darwin, the humidity affected my earrings/ears, so I took them out as they kept on getting infected/sore. 3 months later: pregnant! So maybe there IS some truth in this!
So, my earrings have been put away in a box and I am off to make a salad!
Just a question, where should these yellow socks be placed????

Well folks I have my pair of yellow Bonds booties in a little gift box next to a picture of my dad who passed away just 6 weeks ago. Heres hoping he is my guardian angel and has some sway with things "up there".
I just thought of another wives tale I have heard too - Have a close friend give you a parsley plant. You need to nurture it and try your hardest to help it grow.
Dont know if this works, but hey if not you will have an excess of garnish!

After we have :bd: i lye on my back with my legs up in the air for about 15 mins giving the little :sperm: some gravitational help!
Do you think this will help at all or is it just a myth??
I guess if you feel like it is helping, then it is. There is no harm in it!!

Hey Sara,
I didn't actually put my legs up in the air (too much movement caused me to have even more leakage LOL!) but I just kind of bent my knees IYKWIM and propped my bum up a bit. It's not necessary to do those things in order to get pg but I know for me it felt reassuring to be doing something LOL.
Good luck!
I put a pillow under my hips for about 20 minutes after BD. Don't know if it helped or not, pregnant at 1st real attempt so it may have. I have heard that if you put your legs in the air it may be too much of an angle.
I always did this, but both times I got pregnant where both times were I didn't get the chance!
With Olivia we did the deed (it was a bit of "afternoon delight" IYKWIM,) and then we had to rush out to a cricket club do (my soical life is SUCH a whirl, not!) so I literally pulled my shorts on and we went.......I didn't even have time to have a shower, which is gross, I know, so I went off dribbling & leaking IYKWIM (sorry if TMI)......but 9 months later little Livvy popped out!!
I was the same as Lucy, propped my bum up each time, but when our munchkin was conceived it was in the morning & we had to rush off to be somewhere as well!
Hmmmmm.......maybe daytime bonks are they way to go to concieve?!
Here is another old wives tale - don't dust or move anything underneath your bed, because that's where the baby dust is gathered! I don't know whether its true or not but it is a good excuse not to do the cleaning so I am sticking to it....
And a pair of manderin ducks in the bedroom suppose to help your fertility too, so good luck to everyone!
I read on a site that if you put fresh rosemary under your bed than that helps.I didn't have any fresh so,I sprinkled some in a lid that I got out of my spice rack.lol.

Here are some that I found ralting to pregnancy (not necessarily TTC)
if a baby looks at you from between its legs - may want to purchase an early pregnancy test! According to lore the baby is hinting, somehow, that you are or will soon become pregnant.
If your left breast is bigger than the right during pregnancy, you're having a girl. If the right is bigger, it'll be a boy. If they are the same size, you're in for a surprise!
If you get moody during pregnancy you are more likely to have a girl. This is because all women are moody, and when carrying a girl you become doubly so.
If young boys (pre-school age) show interest in you while you're pregnant, it will be a girl. If they ignore you, expect a boy.
Incense - burning Clary sage Incense sticks is meant to help with fertility.
Gem Stones - Rose quartz - is meant to help with relaxation and also with fertility, along with smoky quartz, and jade for male fertility and a number of other semi precious stones.
I have been out and bought some incense and have a rose quartz stone to wear and which goes under my pillow at night and there is one beneath DH side of the bed. I know that you have to be careful of aromatherapies etc when you are pg but i was wondering if there is anyone else out there that has any other suggestions - I am open to anything!!
I am taking vitex, dong quai, vit b complex, evening primose oil, folate and have been drinking grapefruit juice.
Vitex and Dong quai are hormone balancers
Evening primose oil and grapefruit juice to increase ewcm. I only take epo from AF to O.
Vit B - Helps lengthen your luteul phase.
I have been taking these for nearly 2 months and I actually 'O' on cd16 and if the witch arrives today I will have a 31 day cycle.
If you cycles are regular I wouldn't suggest taking any of these as it might mess up your cycles.
Hope some of this helps.

In my research into this same topic, I keep coming up with a Shamrock (four leaf clover) design on a flat smooth piece of moonstone. Moonstone is said to enhance fertility and to promote ease in pregnancy. I don't know where to get a ready made charm like this, so I got some moonstone and carved a shamrock into it gently. (rather difficult!)
Mythology also calls for a female statue to be stood in the bedroom somewhere visible - it needs to be a statue that "calls" to you, or that you find visually appealing, or that you like, or has special meaning etc. I'm not sure if this is Feng Shui - I don't really know much about Feng Shui.
With the incense, Musk can help set the mood for BDing - I dont' think it specifically enhances fertility as such, but it certainly makes the room smell nice and can make it all romantic, and according to some mythology I have read, (Im' not sure of the truth of this, but I like it anyway) there are many baby "spirits" floating around the air, waiting to choose their parents, and they want parents who love each other, so romantic BDing could work. (Plus it's fun!)
One thing I have been doing is something my grandmother taught me - wishing on the first evening star on the first day of a new moon. When I was about 5 she told me that that's the star that grants wishes, so all my life I've done it, and things seem to come true from it. (I got my DH!) I don't know if it will work for a baby, but no harm in trying!
:)
there's an article on aromatherapy from conception to baby on the main bellybelly site. Its got heaps of stress busters and a few differant ways of using them.
The other alternative method of increasing fertility is the Lunar method, which indicates that a woman is at her most fertile during the stage of the month when the moon is in the same position as it was when she was born. particulary if it coincides with her normal mid month ovulation.
It is a bit complicated to explain, but if I look back at all three of my conceptions they all fell when I was ovulating at the same time as the moon being in my birth position.
HTH.........
I love armothearpy and it's great such to use toe relax and get into the mood..... especially in massage!
I wonder to the booties have to be knitted or not? - i am goingto g to my sisters after work and rummage through her old baby stuff and sure she'll have at least one pair in there....LOL
I bought a yellow jumpsuit before we TTC and I kept in my knicker drawer.
Rayray my left BB was bigger than my right with both PG's and I had boys.
Hi Everyone!!
I read this post when we decided to TTC so I went and bought a yellow pair of baby's socks and put them in my underwear draw (which is right beside my bed). About a week later, I went to my massage therapist (for my regular visit). She knew we were TTC, and she told me to get Moonstone crystals which are for fertility. So I bought a Moonstone crystal and put it in one of the baby's socks. Three weeks later I found out I was pg!!
I know it's got more to do with mother nature than old wives tales, but it doesn't hurt to help things along a little! :D
I had moonstone & rose quartz under my pillow too ;)
This might sound like a ridiculous question, but whats the difference between booties and babies socks? I can not for the life of me find booties anywhere :-k
Along the Parsley thread... My mum and dad always told me that if I ate parsley I would get pg... Will have to try that one!
I will ask someone for a plant too!!!
I have booties in my draw and DH's draw, his granma knitted them for us.
Might have to invest in that moonstone and rose quartz too!
Botties are more like little shoes than socks & are generally knitted.
I too have heard about not vacuuming under your bed as the Baby Dust is there......
Also have been told to put 6 grains of Rice just inside the doorway of the bedroom and white or yellow booties in the middle of the wall to your right as you walk through the bedroom door. Have not tried any of them, but seeing as there is quite a bit of success with the yellow booties, I will go and hunt some down tomorrow !!!
Good Luck Girls :pdust: :bdust: to you all
Love Lexie xox
Hi guys!
Just wanted to add that when we were trying to conceive last year after four months of no success i tried a whole lot of old wives tales one month and fell pregnant. I had yellow bootees
I took out my earings for that entire month
I had a beautiful unakite stone in my dresser (that i now carry with me everyday)
xx
Hey guys,
When I was buying my rose quartz and moonstone today the girl gave me an imformation sheet on all the stones, quartz etc... Anyway, apparently Unakite is also good for TTCing. This is what they say:I am definitley going to be getting some. I would love a "healthy pregnancy" for a change. ;):
