DH & I have been searching through all of the common / contempary baby names for a boy, and cannot find a single one that we like.
We would like something uncommon, but yet obvious in terms of pronunciation.
Any ideas?

Hmmm.. what about Aricyn? hehe..
Some of the others on our boy's list were:
Sirius
Safin
Macarien
Yorin
Declan
Tyrone
For girls I love Mehkelti and Maruschke. But, I put Maruschke out on the threads and didn't get many favourable responses.
What about Dante / Savion?

I wish I'd have seen Hemi before! I love it & I know DH would've agreed! I think its cool! Too late to change his name now though!!
I found a link to a list of uncommon baby names if anyone else is interested.
Ooooh I LOVE Dante!!
I'm a big fan of Macarien as well!
bj - I like Jacobi!
Is Macarien pronounced Maca-rien (like the dance Maca-rena) or Ma-carien ? I like the second pronounciation!
Other girls names we like (girls are so easy!) Zardi / Zahrdi, Zandi. We quite like x / z names :).
Thanks Candice - I might need that link when I've got #3 on the way.....;)
Oh and the pronounciation is the way you like ;)
From what I remember from Mel's thread ages ago - Macarien is pronounced like Mark-air-ian..
Am I right Mel?
Aims - I think I had it spelt out like this :-
Mar-care-ree-en
cos thats how we pronounced it.
So if we have a boy that will most probably be his name (and the next one will be a boy... I know it)
That's what I meant Mel!! I went looking for the thread but I couldn't find it!
LOVE IT!
What did you have for a middle name again Mel?
hope this website is helpful
i got both my kids names from here (Meredith and Benson) and planning on getting number 3's name from here
Unique Baby Names
My friends DS's name is Zarryod (Zarrod)
Mel is that pronounced Sy-lee?
Once again - LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
mmm more like si-e-li
I like the name Dante too - but we have someone in the family who is connected to someone with that name...iykwim - so we cant use it.
If your into Xanthe for a girl, a boy equivilant (though I think is not the same meaning) is Xanti.
Dont worry too much what people think, choose names that you and your DH like cause in the end names that people consider unusual will always raise eyebrow to begin with, but they get use to it after a while.
I'm with you guys, I don't care what others think! I'd rather an original / unusual name than a boring one, LOL.
I like Xander / Xavier but it is becoming incredibly popular so I don't think we would go that way. Plus we have a nephew Zanda.
Dante or Donte? hmmm
What middle name goes with Dante? Dante Theodore? Theodore is more of an old classic than original though. Ahh so hard!
Hmm..
Dante Jack
Dante Blu
Dante Xavier
I like the spelling of Dante. I also like the idea of pairing it with a traditional name.
Dante Theodore is just TOOOO CUTE! It's also a name that would grow well with him!
I love Dante! That spelling too.
Some middle names:
Dante Tallesin
Dante Rex
Dante Livingstone
some other names:
Decorci
Slaed
Zahn
Zebedee
Fletcher

(at this stage I am pilfering from a list I made a few years ago with DHs housemates over a few G and Ts. It's quite funny, but I'm mostly putting the sensible stuff in)
Barton
Duke
Gomez
Emmett
Harlem
Ringo
DH does not like Dante Theodore, but after a while nor do I. This is so hard!
Armett?
I also like Dante,
What about Dante Baylen (means warrior)
Dante Xade / Zade - I love this combo
Dante Kye
Dante Harlan
Dante Mason
Is it Dante he doesn't like? Or just the combo of Dante and Theodore?
Some more suggestions
Dante Jett
Dante Riley
Dante Ryder
Dante Blake
My partner and I have decided on the name Zane for our son..
its not that unusual but thought I'd throw it out there for you. :D
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. DH doesn't like Dante at all.
Malachi is lovely, but do you think it is getting common? DH likes Ardi.
I don't think Malachi is common - I think its a great name!
I think I like Arti more than Ardi...
I like Malachi (and no I don't think its common at all). I knew a Mallick once - I think that's a pretty cool name.
This one jumped out at me from one of the sites listed above;
Granger???
This one also did, but for the wrong reasons.... anyone want to call their child.... Ransom...?!
:dunno: handsome Ransom??!!
If you like Malachi, what about Makkai / Makai / Mackai / Makye?
One thing you ought to consider is whether the sounds in the name are popular. Even if the name itself isn't common, if it has sounds that are 'in' right now, it will blend in. Those would be -ade/-aid, -aden, anything ending in -an/-en/-in/-on, and a lot of names ending in -er.
That being said, here are some more suggestions:
Abram, Alaric, Bennett, Blake, Carsten, Caspian, Cyprian, Declan, Emeric, Esmond, Felix, Finlay, Gareth, Henrik, Jared, Lemuel, Levi, Magnus, Marius, Nolan, Orsino, Stellan
Just thought of a few others
Dusk (sister is Chilli)
Djago - pronounced - Jaygo (sister is Zaelee)
Drake
Jye
Kye
Kyron
Blayne
Zane
Zebb
Orlando/Orry
Rory
Just thought I'd chuck in the girls names coz I love them & Zaelee is close to one you were thinking of.
