Master of Destruction: does it end?

My DS is a normal curious 16 month old who is into everything. If I'm not engaging him in play together, then I am following him around and cleaning up the latest mess. This morning so far he's worked out how to open the cereal box and throw Cheerios all over the floor, then worked out how to press the spout of his sippy cup against the floor so the juice came out and he could use his hands to spread it all over the floor. I'm proud of his ingenuity and all, but still!

Just wondering how long this phase goes on for. I would love to think I could leave DS to play independently for a little while, but he is a disaster zone when he's on his own for two seconds, even though I thought I had the place all kid-proofed! Does it get better?!

Not really - just the type of destruction / exploration changes. My front yard currently has mud pies from our last *experiment* and the climbing is turning me grey :rofl: But it is all normal ........... I hope ;)

Hehe .....my nearly 3 year old still gets the top from the yoghurt and spreads yoghurt everywhere!!! Mainly cos he sees his little sister doin it and thinks it must be ok.

They do get better - and then they get into BIGGER things that make more mess.. LOL

DS has found out how fun it is to pull dvds out of drawer
How to pull speaker covers off
How to pull cds out and slide them on floor
How to pull up heating vents from floor
How to pull a toilet roll apart and put things in toilet!

and if he doesnt get his own way or gets told off he hits his forhead on floor!!!!!!!

So, is anone seeign something similiar here, in that we are talking about our DS's? :lol: I can't remember DD being into everything as much as DS is at the moment :rolleyes:
Feeb, I had a giggle at your DS hitting his head on the floor..my little man has a preference for hitting his head against the sliding glass door lol.
He is also into the DVD's as well.. He likes to remove the cover from under the plastic slip, then he starts pulling the plastic covering off, then if he cant get the DVD out, he will just flip the case upside down and run it across the floor.

His most favourite thing at the moment is climbing the dining room chairs to get on top of the table and then proceeds to jump up and down on his knees on the world's most unstable table..
He's also into taste testing any furniture.. even tried it out when we were looking at new table a few months ago...quite embarrassing lol..

Well, it seems to me that it's a boy thing. All the little girls I know, while they have they're own special 'talents' ;), are not nearly so destructive as boys!

Mmmm, I don't think it gets better, although I have all the really yucky messy things locked away. All his mess is now stuff that can be easily cleaned up :lol: it's just that it's EVERYWHERE! I certainly don't spend my day following him around cleaning up after him, I would do nothing else. Yeah, my house is messy alot, but I'm pretty sure most people with little kids can relate :).

LOL Feeb, my DS used to bang his head when he got told off too!!!! Fortunately we grew out of that stage :).

hehe glad to hear I am not the only one with a crazy boy that hits head on purpose!!!

first few times i picked him up now I just laugh at him and ask have you finished he generally then comes to me for a cuddle!

mess factor i clean up toys in arvo when he sleeps and most nights before I go to bed but lounge generally is a huge mess of toys and stuff

So the boy factor is all our problem!!!!!!

Hmmm, my DD was pretty amazing in her ability to create areas of total destruction when she was a toddler. Two memorable incidents were: the time she got into my makeup drawer... Clinique foundation cream and face cleansers went EVERYWHERE... about $200 worth of loss. Another was in the kitchen aged nearly 3: got into the fridge... cracked all the eggs onto the floor... then mixed in several bottles of spices including bright yellow turmeric... mixed all together then walked it onto the cream coloured carpet. OH....the....joy!

My boys weren't as bad as that... but maybe I am more "onto" them.

My DD still makes messes but not as destructive.... she is now nearly 15. As they get older they branch out into more places. My DD will now make a total mess of the garage as she goes through boxes etc :doh:

Oh Bath that sounds shocking!!! And you've reminded me of when our nieces were about 4 and 2, while mum and dad were having a lie in on the weekend, the got the big tub of honey out and proceeded to smear it all over the kitchen floorboards, and themselves!!! We all laughed ourselves silly, but I would hate to clean up a mess like that!!!!

Tissues anyone? DS is obsessed with tissues atm after being through a winter of colds, there are boxes everywhere, and if DS gets his hands on them there are tissues strewn everywhere. And he like to rip them too, so they are not salvagable...

And the latest bath trick is tipping cups of water all over the bathroom floor, cause he like the way the splash sounds...

Yep, my boys are constantly tipping water out of the bath so that by the time I find them the water has run out... down the hall and onto the carpet. I swear... we are NOT having new carpet until the kids are all at school... carpets and kids just Don't mix!!!

Yes, tissue obsession here, I just don't have as many boxes around, and those I do are up really high! He loves tipping water out of the bath too, I hate it!!!

YES! Same here too Ruf..also likes to pull the bum wipes out of the packet.
We have a book thing happening here as well, DS loves to chew the corners off books, or rip the pages (cool sound mum!) then eat them.
Probably doesn't help that i give him the junk mail to rip apart does it :lol:

Ah at the moment Ds3 (4 yrs ) and DD (almost 23 months) have a doona spread on the floor and running and sliding on it.. this morning I found DD playing in the toilet *sigh and yuck* I have already swept the floor in preparation for mopping when DD is asleep.. but alas I have to re sweep and no doubt vac the mat due to the food crumbs they have spread.. and todays a good day LMAO

Loves ripping junk mail (has not ripped books yet as I only give him board books as any others are away and only out for me to read to him not leave around)

chucks toys and water out bath and then wants to stand up and see how far it went!! bath time is us constantly sitting him back down and then eventually giving up and taking him out!

Oh... A really yicky one... If DS gets into the toilet, he will get the toilet brush and run around the house with it using it like a sword. :sick: :sick: :sick:

I am generally cool with DS running around, he is usually noisy, but when I dont hear him for a few minutes I know he is up to something...

DS only has board books for general play too, as he does like to eat them as well... All the other book are up high and only come out for stories.

Remind me why I am going back for Number 2?????

What's with the toilet brush??? We were recently staying in a motel, and the bathroom door was a sliding one, so DS thought it was great that he could go in and check out the bathroom whenever he liked (ours is always shut at home). He came out at one point with the toilet brush, miming brushing his teeth :sick: saying "brusha brusha brusha" with such glee on his face!!!!! I was almost ill, although I don't think it actually made it into his mouth. I left DH to deal with that one :lol:

Yes, I spent many a time wishing that we had a lockable cupboard in the toilet in which to store the toilet brush!!!
