Labour and birth photos?
Would have someone photograph your labour and birth?
I came across the most remarkable blog of a doula in the states who phtographs her birthing mothers labour and birth, the photos are amazing!
I wish there was someone in Brisbane who did this...I would proabably get this done next birth.
Would you...purely for your own private collection..I dont think I would be hanging it over the dining room table ;)
Oh if you want the link to the blog just pm me :)

I would definitely do it. I've recently seen some birth photography from a woman locally and they're just beautiful images. They capture the moments so well. DP took some video footage of me in labour and I sort of cringed watching it back the first time but now its a great memory for us about that special day.

A bb member used to do this......photograph labour and birth :). Her work was stunning! She is still a photographer I believe, but no longer does the birth stuff :)
-
I may have to become a doula and photgrapher so I can do it :)
There is this shot of this plancenta and a cord which is soo long and so bright blue its the coolest thing I have seen. and one of this beautiful baby head and arm out looking straight at the camera...I am so blown away.

I'm going to next time around. Sam (Raven) used to come to births with me where the mother wanted pics taken and they were just divine. Was great fun working with her too :D

Boomba - I think CanadianTams (an old member of this site) was planning on going into labour/birth photography, she's the only Tammy on my friends list on FB if you want to message her and ask about it... Not sure if it's the same style you're after but it's worth asking..

oooh will check it out
Thanks hun xx

Oh cool SS I only wish I had come across this blog earlier...it will be at least 3 years till we have another! But will keep it in mind :)

Looking back know I regret not having photos taken of my labour. I wasn't and still not keen on actual shots of the birth but I absolutely love the photos taken straight after my kids birth.

I had photos taken of me during the labour and actual birth. :D (the last 10mins)
We had a student Dr in the room with us, the midwife had asked us during the labour is it ok and my DH said "only if he takes photos and makes himself useful!" (rather than just watching the birth!) so DH handed him the camera and he got snap happy and took some amazing photos of me pushing, DD's head coming out, DD first entering the world and our first look at each other and our first family photo mins after the birth.... pretty special.
I thought it might be distracting having him take photos of me while I was pushing etc but I didn't care, as I was too focused on what I was doing.... we're going to do it for the next bub too.... as long as someone takes the photos, doesn't matter who.
Although there is some blood & yucky bits in some of the photos :o (my bits!!) they are pretty special photos and it's lovely to look back over them to realise "WOW I did really do that!!!!" pretty chuffed!!
Amber - can you please send me that link/website? thanks hun :D

I would love to do birth photography. We planned ot have someone photograph DD's birth but DD came to quickly lol.
-
lol shanti i was like WOW did i really get that big :o lol

I had photos taken at DD1's birth.
My mother and sister swapped between filming and photo-ing DD2's birth.
I would def like to get a professional photographer or even film maker for my next birth which will be at home.
As a Doula I also offer this as a separate service but usually always take pics at my clients births.
Edited to say: I have watched Colby's birth over and over and over again! Best thing in the world!
