Friends stillbirth - debrief

Not really sure where to start, firstly I just want to thank you all for your support. My friend went into labour yesterday morning and birthed her little boy naturally which is what she wanted. Her husband was just so supportive and encouraging her the whole way, I know she will be ok. Her midwife was fabulous and knew her wishes, I couldn't praise her enough. From the time I arrived she birthed in 1 1/2 hrs, she had spent 4hrs at home in labour with her DH. Although it was very emotional there was such a peacefulness in the room, once bubs was born he was put on mums chest straight away and dad cut the cord. Not hearing your baby's cries is just heartbreaking. Seeing the emotional pain in my friends eyes was the hardest thing ever. I left soon afterwards as family were coming in to say their goodbyes.
When I saw her little angel, I say Emmanuel, there was such a resemblance I don't understand. He had exactly the same T13 features as Emmanuel and the very dark skin. For me initially I was finding it a bit upsetting but today I feel like it was my special little boy who was with me there yesterday who gave me the strength to go through it all over again and I just love him ever more for that.

Bubs is yet to be named, they wanted to wait to see him before choosing his name. Feeling much better today thanks, I am so glad I was at the birth, for me personally it has been such a healing. I know now I have fulfilled a purpose that my Emmanuel has given me. I just feel so sad for mum and dad.

Dianne, what a blessing you are. Such an amazing, beautiful, brave and strong woman... kudos to you for doing something that I'm not sure a lot of us here would have been able to do. Emmanuel chose you to be his mummy for a reason and I'm so glad he was watching over you and giving you the strength you needed. That's so beautiful that you felt him with you... I have chills.

I have been thinking of you ever since I read your first thread about receiving a call from the hospital, I think you're an unbelievable woman to have been able to cope, and I hope that you will lean on us if you need to as these things tend to take a while to sink in.

My thoughts are with the new mum and dad who unfortunately did not get their little one for keeps... I hope that they have lots of family and friends around them to give them the support they need.
