I've tried distracting him with toys, singing, saying a loud and firm 'NO', a little tap on the leg (hurt me more than him) and I don't know what else to do to help at nappy change time?
Nearly every nappy change he cries or screams and tries to roll away. Probably 1 in 5 is not a bad experience...
Is this just one of those battles that you just have to live with?
I have a 14mth old and am battling the same thing here. That and getting dressed is just a nightmare. I have tried all distractions as well. Only about 1 a day works. :( Hope they stop this phase soon :hug:

DD1 was like that. I dreaded nappy change times. I tried everything too, including turning the TV on to distract her. But nothing worked, she just eventually grew out of it. It's hard when your pregnant though isn't it?
yep, went through that with both of mine....DS still has his moments.
I tried distraction, singing, faces, toys, his sister....in the end it's so bad that sometimes I have to put one of his ankles in between my legs to hold him still (if he's on the bed) and on occasion I have had to hold his shoulders down with my feet so i could get a mega pooey nappy off....
Truely - it passes.

DD1 was the same and DD2 is now going through it too. She's almost 14 months. It is SO frustrating. But it does end eventually. Big hugs xx

Oh hi!! That's the only problem with a name change isn't it? I hadn't been on here for a little while though and then when we found out we were pg again, I was back for more :)

I know what you mean. I kind of feel like I have lost my identity and I want it back! LOL!

My almost 12mo is exactly like this....you almost have to pin him down just to get his nappy changed. The only things that will keep him still are inanimate objects like keys, wooden spoons etc My purse is a winner at the moment, he likes to take the cards out while I change him. Strange little boy.
Oooooh yep, 13 month old and he kicks, screams, cries like a banchee!! I just get through asap so to minimise the damage to my ears and his throat lol. He even throws real tears in sometimes.
Maybe try pull up nappies instead of getting him to lay down?
same thing here, Bella is 20months and has been chucking major wobblies at nappy change time and also with dressing... not good at the moment with some runny teething poos and my white doona cover - blerk....

Hi Ozziehoffy, yep we have real tears and banchee cries/screams too... It takes a lot of strength to keep this little monster from rolling away or getting a foot in his poo! :0

Hi MM, good idea, though I think they do cost a bit more and he poo's about 3 times a day, so a lot of the struggle is when trying to wipe his bum...
DD was like this but grew out of it about a month ago - oh what a difference, phew! we survived!
The only thing that worked for me was having a box of contraband - stuff that she was never normally allowed to play with or things that she had never seen before - bulldog clips, elastic bands, spoons, nappy snappies, USB stick, roll of sticky tape, plastic sandwich bag full of coloured plastic bits etc - and each change I would allow her to select something out of the box to look at, but if she mucked around during the change then I took it off her. I explained the rules and gave warnings but if she still continued, then I followed through. It worked as long as I kept the box interesting, and she was only ever allowed to play with them during nappy time so the novelty couldn't wear off.
