hypospadia but certain he also has another condition chordee aswell

it was such a shock to see my poor little man when he was first born, his poor doodie was swollen (but we reassured it was not sore just swelling like most kids get) and that he has hypospadias. i had never heard of it before, nor do i know exactly what needs to be done to be repaired. after all the swelling has gone down i have noticed his end is quite wide and his doodie isnt quite straight IYKWIM, and found out he may also have another condition called chordee which is common with hypospadias. his foreskin doesnt completely cover all so some is exposed and the hole is underneath where usually a hypospadia hole is.
i am just wondering i know surgery wont be until he's atleast 6 months old, but want to hear from others who have gone through the same thing with their son, i am so scared for him, what is exactly involved and how they correct it. how long does it take for them to recover, and i have heard some cases need more than one surgery to fit completely how many does it take usually to fix. and what should i be asking my ob and the surgeon besides what i am asking now.
i really hope i can hear more from others, it literally makes us feel sick knowing he needs surgery but know that it will make him all better its just he's our baby and no one wishes to see their kids go through any hospital stay.

I have no experience with this personally, but I just wanted to say that I'm sure your little fella will be fine :hug: I hope that someone else sees this who may be able to give you some advice on it.

thanks its very hard to think of him going into surgery, i have had one kid in hospital once before cause he couldnt breathe and they rushed him off with dh and i was left not knowing what was going on only to fill out paperwork, and it really scared the hell out of me. so now i am very over protective and very clingy to my boys, i'm just a big sook lol!

my ob thinks he may have a case of chordee (his end seems wider than usual) but we see the surgeon on the 10th may so hopefully alot of answers and confirmation of it all. im hoping for sooner rather than later for his op (if he is like ds2 he'll want to play with his winky all day lol, if he is like ds1 who never touches his well then later wont be a problem). how many surgerys do they need only one or is it 2 at least ob told me he will have a tube put in?

My DS had this when born too, its weird it happens it 1 in every 300 boys born, my paedeatrician gave us alot of information when we went to see him.
The op cant be done until 6 months as its under general anathetic ( they have to incubate them)

DS coped fine with the op but im not 100% sure they did much... I mean he has a slight bend, which they dont fix apprently and he had half a foreskin so they made that even by removing the top half.
He had his two urethra openings close together , only one with wee coming out , it looked like a spider bite in relations to the distance between the two hole.... hard to explain.

They stitched one hole and then just left the urine to bypass the stitch and come out the top one .... It is stilll scared and reddish at times but i guess we will only tell as he gets older and it grows more. apparently the bend can become less noticable and the scarring should go away in time too. DS is two and a half now and i think its ok i cant really ever get a look, sometimes i think maybe he is weeing out of the wrong one still but its just the scar tissue there and he wees straight now.... That was a suprise, changing nappies before the op and having him wee to the right ....lol

He will be ok, Huge hugs, i felt sick to my stomach too but tbh the worst part in the actual anathestic, they get upset when they wake up with a sore throat, but mummy was there and he was just groggy for a day . we went home that day. a one day procedure. PM me if you have any questions :)

he makes me laugh he has good aim wee'd on his daddys tooth brush in the shower! his winky was very swollen when he was born, and he wasnt allowed to be in a disposable until he wee'd which took 24hours. but now wee's as soon as its out. his winky would point up but as the swelling went down so did it, its sort of twisted sideways abit IYKWIM but his foreskin too is not formed underneath and doesnt cover the whole of top so i am hoping for circumsism. but its amazing how the doctors dont tell you much i suppose its up to the surgeons. but oh the thought of him under general and seeing him sore makes me feel so bad. i think he's perfect though, (should see some peoples faces when i've changed his bum, it really angered me that they would look down at him, you dont know their is a problem unless you see him without a nappy on, so i have become overly protective of him)

My youngest had this (both the hypospadias, and the chordee which is a bend in the penis). He had it repaired at 15 months, and the excess skin on the overside of his penis was used to create a new foreskin. Other than a post operative infection (which was pretty nasty, he ended up on IV antibiotics) he has had no issues. I am taking him to see a new surgeon next week though because he pees at a funny angle and I'm concerned the chordee is not fully repaired.

His penis looks completely normal though, and the scar is very faint and on the underside where it really can't be seen. He also has about twice the length he had before the op, which I'm sure he will be grateful for in about 15 years.

its funny that i have noticed the chordee (when i see photos of him at birth i think its noticable too), i suppose when it was that swollen at birth may of been harder to be certain. but what gave it away besides the bend is his end (i think women are going to run away from him! lol)

lol about the length i noticed that too his winky isnt flopped straight down IYKWIM its sort of squished up abit (when i told dh this he said god he's going to end up with a monster of a winky lol!)
im not worried about scars as dh has scarring from his circumsism (from medical reasons, and will only have the boys done for medical, want that decision left up to them for later in life if they choose they dont want it lol) i am just hoping it will be one surgery and its all fixed? did your lil one have a tube inserted? is it to keep hold open so doesnt close up and do they take it back out? as im latex allergic and hoping none of the boys are.

yes my boy had a catheter inserted, but it came out quite fast. If you are concerned about a latex allergy then it would be wise to get him tested for this before surgery. Most surgeons wait until 6 - 24 months before operating, so you have lot of time. It's not nice having your little one in surgery but hopwfully it will just be one surgery.

A friends twins both have this and are awaiting surgery, I hope you have had a chance to discuss your concerns with your HCP and that you are feeling more confidnt with the proceedure Best wishes

Ds didnt need to piece of tube inserted, they saw how it was in the operation and were happy not to. its hard for them to decide beforehand apparently...

yeah i am hoping for it to be as simple as possible. i was told he would likely have the tube and his winky bandaged but as you said its up to them when they are fixing it and seeing if it will need it or not.

After the op ds was fine, he didnt cry in pain or anything and didnt need any other pain relief as he was groggy still from the general , he was over it pretty quickly actually , considering there age too is good to get it fixed when they cant remember stuff like that :)

yeah thats why i want it done as soon as possible after the 6 month mark i had a friend whos son needed a medical circumsism at 2 and he was not happy at all screaming trying to play with it and just not himself for awhile the poor little guy. and also the hospital is in fremantle which is not too far from us but will still take half an hour to get their for dh to come up or to bring kids up if he stays in hospital which i have stayed in hospital with DS1 when he had trouble breathing and i cried my eyes out like the whole time im such a sook for my kids.

downside this little boy loves his peepee lol! and now racing about everywhere! he has also been known to take his nappy off!
so my question is if he has a catherder is their a bag or does it sit fine with a nappy. dressing him what clothing is better for him for the next few days?i was thinking maybe onsies or maybe pj's?

They will use a catheter initially and a double nappy system to keep his penis clean from poo whilst it is healing. Dress him in anything he can fit two nappies into and you should be fine :)

Double nappy system? I never heard of that. Could you tell me more about it please.
I think I might go out and buy him some new clothing this week maybe some pj onsies enough room for double nappy and he cannot get out of them.

basically it involves a nappy with a hole cut out. His penis sticks out through the hole and there is another nappy on top. This way the poo is contained inside the first nappy and the wound is inside the second nappy with only urine. They may do it differently now but that's how they did it 3 years ago in Scotland when my son had his done.
