What a perfect baby... Your experiences?

So to all those with new babies or under 1...

I am ready to kick someone firmly on the behind, if I have one more person suggest that I am due to have a horrible bubs because dd was such a "perfect baby"

Ds is 9 days old and feeds every four hours. He is a fabulous sleeper, so far.
But I have been told this will all change and he will be screaming soon.... : (

So what are your experiences, how was your baby the first few weeks.. How did he or she end up?

I am very aware that he is still very young but would love to hear your experience none the less. DD was exactly how DS is now.. No spitting up, hardly needs to be burped and is just really happy. ; )

Well there is no such thing as a perfect baby. You would have had days with DD she would have been a little grissly. It every baby is going to be different and there is no perfect or by perfect babies.

Ha... How many times have I heard that.. I ment perfect by my standards. Which means happy. Maybe I should change that to happy baby?

I've always found my bubs were "perfect" until they were 2 weeks old. Then reflux kicked in and they woke up a bit to the world and didn't settle as easy.

That's not to say you will experience that, some babies are really good ones - I just haven't had one yet rofl

Ha Mel. Reflux.. the dreaded word. Two weeks... so counting down! Lol. I am surprised your not cuddling your bubs yet!! XX

I've had pretty much happy babis.

My first born well I was new at it all, but with my 2nd and 3rd, I think I was just more relaxed and i got them into a good sleep routine quite early (cos I knew what I was doing) which I think helped. That being said my youngest 2 boys both became really unsettled around 4 to 5 months, think they were just starting to get a bit hungry, once they started on solids they soon went back to being quite content and good sleepers.

Fingers crossed I have been lucky in that I didn't have any reflux or constipation issues.

My baby feeds heaps more than 4 hourly, doesn't sleep that often or for very long, has colic until 12 weeks and is still perfect.

yep, what Arimeh's Eden said - we have just hit the two week mark and more awake, more wind especially between midnight and 4 am but he is still perfect and I'm not going to send him back to the hospital just yet :) The joy of babies is you never know what the day will be like but if it's not so great there's always room for improvement the next day!

I've had three "perfect" babies. A mate actually said "what's your recipe?"
It is actually possible to get lucky more than once.

I guess it depends on what you define a "perfect" baby. I thought my first was perfect and she was... too perfect - she slept well, rarely fussed, was happy to sit or lie down and play with her own hands or even her bib for ages. It ended up that was because she had an under-responsive vestibular and proprioceptive system that caused major delays and still effect her greatly. My second is more wakeful, chucks little tantrums when he doesn't like something, pukes up because he's rolling around and putting pressure on his tummy as he explores, and squeals like a banchee just to hear his own voice and I think it is wonderful! Well, maybe not the squealing, some days that does my head in because it's so loud and high, but it's his happy attention noise. My DD is perfectly unique and DS is perfectly normal - both are perfect.

I guess my point is, that what can be seen as a negative in a babies behaviour, if not caused by something physically wrong but personality, can also be their greatest strength. Likewise what can be seen as good behaviour might actually be an indication of that child's weakness. Does that make sense? A baby might chuck tanties because they are strong willed, while this doesn't make them an easy baby, it will hold them in good stead as teenagers when they''re dealing with peer pressure. It's all about how those traits are steered more than whether or not one is right or wrong.

What a great thread - this exact thing happened to us! And now we are pregnant with number 2, it's worse - people keep telling us because we had a perfect DD, the next one will be a terror :(

DD has been a great kid but I think our expectations were that she was going to be difficult. You know, you hear so many horror stories that as first time parents we were prepared for a nightmare and when we didn't get that, it was a welcome surprise. DD is still wonderful, she eats, sleeps and plays very well. She absolutely has her moments but in all seriousness, she is a pretty easy child. The expection to this has been illness which has wreaked havoc on her sleeping but regardless she is still happy so her smile pretty much makes up for any short lived sickness sleep deprivation.

I got the whole, "you just wait for #2, you will get a little terror compaired to DD1". Now I can't help but blow rasberries at them. More the fool them for saying such silly things.

DD1 was a great baby, Laughing non stop always happy a real ray of sunshine. DD2 is a very serious baby, takes alot to get her to smile but when she does she is a shining light too. They are both great feeders, sleepers ect.

People will just have to eat their words.:p

I was worrying that Will wouldn't be as "perfect" as Pip, but he's sleeping through (mostly) and sure, he's a spewy baby, but he's a happy spewy baby - I think that's because we're taking it as it comes and we go with the flow - we aren't forcing anything onto him and he's thriving! So Congrats on your wonderful parenting attitude, and enjoy the bubba while he's just perfect!

All changed here at 3 weeks.

Yeah I get the same all the time, mostly from my family.

"Oh P was such a good baby now you'll have a terror"

And so what if I do? It's not being a 'terror' on purpose!

Frankly, two children who are exactly the same will be boring.

But I am over the comments.
