bowel movements after a c/sec **tmi**

This is quite embarrassing really but its getting me rather worried. My c/sec was almost 6 weeks ago and I've never had any bowel problems before until 5 weeks ago.

My poos have become really hard to pass as they hurt, they may as well have glass shards embedded in them and when i wipe its just blood and theres a blood drip in the toilet, the bleeding stops quickly but its not right!
Its only happened after the c-sec im not sure if its related or not but i cant help but feel it somehow is.
Anyone heard of this before or experienced it?

You might have an anal fissure (small tear). You need to get something to soften them as well as a haemorrhoid cream to help it heal.

The relation to the Csec is most likely just the pain killers as they can make you quite constipated. Have you had your 6 week check up yet? It's probably worth mentioning to the doctor that your bowel habits haven't returned to 'normal'.

Sounds like a fissure to me, I had one after my second section, and pretty sure I have one now. I manage it with cream cos I'm not going to get a doc to look at it lol

It sounds like you may have some piles, which will be made worse by your constipation. Please make sure you are drinking lots of fluids, remember you need loads extra as you are breastfeeding. Try not to strain on the toilet and go as soon as you have an urge (even if the twins would like fed first - holding it in makes constipation worse).

Have you had your 6 week post birth check-up yet? If not then mention this at your appointment, and if you have already had your check-up it would be worth your while making an appointment to get checked as bloody stools are sometimes a symptom of something else so should not be ignored.

Cally is right. Painkillers can make you very constipated. I would think this is the reason why things are happening the way they are. Increase your fibre intake, water etc and if need be, add some benifibre to your food and drink to help you out. If you are constipated, there can be abit of blood when and after you wipe ( TMI too.. i had quite a bleedy bum last pregnancy). I could imagine you are extreamly flat out at the moment too so dont forget to eat and drink.

I wouldnt be racing off to the docs but definantly (sp?) give it a mention next week.

thank you everyone ill try somethings to loosen and try some cream ... what type/brand works best? And ill mention it at my check up next week because i want it gone, my movements are regular but **tmi again!** when the poo is coming out its like i can feel it cutting as such hence why i said earlier it may aswell be embedded with glass

Yeah its the same feeling I had.

I didnt use cream (i didnt know i could! lol) but just changed up my diet, helped heaps. From memory (tmi again) I had to more "breath" the poo out rather than push. It took longer but didnt hurt as much.

ive been breathing it out too! glad im not alone in this and looks like im not dying lol ... time to change the diet then

pain relief can bind you up, i am amazed you haven't seen a doctor earlier - each time you try to go, that must be so painful. i would be worried, the longer you put off the inevitable (seeing the doc), you might be doing yourself internal damage.

it's not a pleasant thing to see a doctor about, but they do see very personal all the time.
i think it's MORE unpleasant to keep suffering like you are, you poor thing.

i really encourage you to get some medical help.

apparently, even eating a high fibre diet, it takes 2-3 days to show up in your bowel movements.

psyllium (in the organic cereal section) is 80% fibre, that's the highest fibre item i can think of.

under the circumstances, can you ask your GP to make a once off house call? (i imagine it's hard to get to the doctors with nb twins).

maybe i should add i havent taken any pain relief since about 2 weeks after the c-sec, yeah gigi its very hard getting out and about anywhere atm with 3 under 3

ok, then i really think you need a doctor even more urgently, (if painkillers are not being taken, and you are still having this much trouble).

with three under three, are you living on coffee and air, or do you have a Food Fairy, who is keeping you stocked with fresh food and cooking the meals?

it IS hard with 3 under 3, but if the mummy is not well, if you ignore one little health issue, then another, then another - you might end up in hospital - and then what will happen to the 3 under 3? You need to be well, and functioning, in order to "give" to your 3 under 3 (plus your other children).

I had to increase my water HEAPS and I notice when I've been lacking :( try pear juice (lots of fibre in it) I found it with the canned pineapple & tomato juice, not where I expected at all.

I hope you get some relieve from the pain soon.

There is a good bowel softener called lactulose. It is what people who have had bowel surgery can use. It works by reintroducing water to the bowel. It is not something to take once only, but you have some each day to keep things "soft" You can buy it from the chemist.

Hi Mrs S, Just wanted to reassure you,I had the same probs after my cs a few years ago, it was BAD, (TMI warning) I had to send DP down to the pharmacy to get me some single use enemas, as I was stuck on the loo with my bowels open and nothing was moving..it was stuck! ewww...anyways...

I was worried about using laxatives and breast feeding (as some can pass through) but the single use enemas worked a treat (microlax or bisalax) there are also stool softeners available that are ok to take (coloxyl, green bottle, not with a laxative, just a softener) I'mpretty sure the one Astrid said is ok too.

How much water are you drinking? Up your daily amount, cause even with increased fibre, you need lots of water to move it through. Perhaps try a glass of metamuecil each day to soften thing up a bit.
