I am a bit upset - it is my birthday soon (a very significant one) and I am having a party. I have been looking at dresses and found one that I thought was perfect so I asked 2 friends to come and see it. They agreed it was lovely. So I bought it. I get it home and put it on for DP and he doesn't like it. He doesn't like the colour and doesn't think the cut is flattering.
Would you take it back and look for something else or ignore him and keep it?
I'd keept it if my DH said that because his fashion sense is terrible! But I reckon if you thought it looked great and your friends did too, then I'd keep it.
Does he have good taste? I would still wear it, Some men just don't understand fashion, as long as you feel great wearing it, and two of your friends gave you the thumbs up.... Unless it's revealing or some thing..... I wouldn't listen to his opinion.....

DP's are soo clueless sometimes. If you trust the opinions of your friends I'd say keep it.
:( I HATE that. But really babe, you dress for yourself, not DP. I have no doubt knowing your style that the dress looks great. I dunno...do you value your girlfriends fashion sense more or DP's?
He thinks it makes me look fat from the side view so now I think that is all I will think of and be very self conscious all night :( It isn't revealing at all - in fact it is quite retro and flowing. I don't know - I am torn. What if I don't find anything else? I am fussy and find it hard to find dresses that I like.

i know someone will say...oh but you have to be truthfull blah blah...but if you bought it, thought it looked nice and two friends agreed i think your DH should have just smiled and nodded!
I say wear it and tell him that those pants make his bum look big from behind! hehehe

I'd probably go with the two friends opinion. My DH is not great in the fashion stakes so really I have mine and my friends judgement only.

I don't know. Are the friends they type of friends who would tell you if the dress looked horrible even if you loved it?
I'd probably keep looking around and if I found something I liked as much as that dress I'd exchange it then, if not, wear it to the party.
Aww that sucks babe :hug: It would depend on what he has been like in the past, but TBH if that was me, I would be looking for something else unless you absolutely love it yourself and won't feel conscious in it. If you think you will be self conscious because of what he has said, then I would be looking for another one. If you don't find something, then you have it as a back up I guess- are your friends totally honest?? I only have one gf who is completely honest with me when shopping which I love because she won't say it looks ok even if she knows it is something I love.

Are the friends more likely to be honest or more likely to worry about hurting your feelings?
Is the dress itself quite fabulous and could it possibly be your friends love the dress so much they didn't really pay attention to how well it suited you? A man might be less interested in the actual dress and more interested in how you look.
I'd be inclined to think your husband was trying to be honest about how well the dress suits you, not calling you fat or being rude about you. He probably thinks you're beautiful and would love to see you dressed in glad wrap.
Unless he's a real poopoohead. That's your call to make.

i would listen to my dh, i have put things on in the past and been very thankful that hes told me its not flattering! gosh if he can't tell me then who can.
I have to say I'd listen to mine too. He wants me to look my best and isn't going to tell me something looks great if it doesn't.
My friends tend to tell me what I want to hear. DH, sister and mum - they are honest.
Regardless of whether he is right or wrong about the dress you don't want to spend the night of your party worrying so I think you should go shopping again and this time don't ask his opinion when you get home.:
How long until the party and what is the refund/exchange window on the dress? Maybe keep the dress until you find a new one and then get the refund so that you have it as back-up in case you can't find another perfect dress.
I would sulk. Then go shopping again.
BTW, men and floaty dresses are probably never going to get along. They like things that show off your figure rather than float around it. I'm absolutely positive you don't look fat in it, it's just the style he doesn't like.
