Would you buy a house that backs onto a electrical tower?

You know the ones the power lines run off?

It's pretty much in the back yard. I can't find anything online that's not extremely bias one way our the other.

It will affect your resale value. Lots of people will be put off by it so your capital growth will be affected same as being near a busy road or railway line.

If it's heavily discounted and you're getting a much better house than you could otherwise afford then it might be a good buy.

nope.. i would not... and i wouldn't even rent one.
i really believe that it effects us in lots of different ways and just would not risk it tbh.

I agree with onyx, especially about it being a nice house.

However, personally I'm one of those put off by it. I don't think I'd like to buy a house with a power main so close.

No I wouldn't, for health reasons.

We just went and had a look at it. It has been used for student accommodation and needed a fair bit of cleaning up and the kitchen was like a cave. Other than thwart, it was exactly what we're looking for.

We're finding it really difficult because we have a fairly low budget ($500k max) and need a dual living house with 2 adult sized bedrooms up and 2 bedrooms down.

Do you think they've move the tower? Lol

No, no, never, nope. I won't live or work within 1km of an electrical substation or transmission tower/lines.

I wouldn't have bought it either. But we have just bought land near a railway. However it's also walking distance from the school, general store and oval so I'm hoping that cancel the railway out!

I have a friend who said she was pondering living near those big power lines and she asked the cancer council for advice. They told her you can rent a meter to test the levels of *something* and also told her the number you want it to be below. So she tested and the house came in way above that number. I'm guessing being right next to an electrical tower would be bad news. She also told me she saw an ABC show once about a family who lived next to one of those and after years of sleeping with his bed against the wall next to the tower their son had multiple cancerous lumps in his body :(

Alongside the effects they've had on humans living closely, there has been stories of animals like cows and horses that graze under them that have multiple weird lumps that have formed on their bodies. Whether there is truth there of not, there's no way I'd chance it.

There's enough concern from experts about having a mobile phone beside your bed while you sleep, without adding to it by sticking a power pylon in your backyard.

I wouldn't hun, for health reasons. I'd kick myself if any of my family got sick, I'd be forever wondering if it was the power lines. Nope nope nope!

Nope I wouldn't. We looked at a house that was perfect for us that had a huge power thing behind it, but I knew I could never rest easy, so that house went off our list very quickly

for a mixture of the first two reasons mentioned. it would be harder to sell in years to come, unless its an excellent house. and i wouldn't like to think of 'other' effects, like fires, explosions, cancer, migraines, noise etc etc.
