Bumbo Baby Seats - Good idea?

Again ladies I am after some advice :)

Has anyone used one of these lil seats?

Am thinking of getting it for my 3month old and would LOVE some feedback!

We got one for our DS and he loved it! We also bought the little tray table which is sold separately and up until recently he would sit in that to eat snacks etc. He's almost 10 months old and doesn't use it as much now because he's more mobile and can sit up on his own but we took it on holidays with us and to other peoples houses when we went to visit. I found it to be a very useful purchase.

Hiya. In all honesty i also asked this and was told how good they were............we decided to bye one....................We used it once for may 5mins. Never used it again. If you do choose to bye one go with second hand in case you find you dont use it.

We used them and found them great!

DS1 from 6 months until 11 months, DS2 5 montsh until 9 months. (had to stop using it as DS1 wanted to try and push his brother in seat!

Were fanatistic esepcially when hot as baby could sit up and be happy without being sticky from being held when unable to sit on there own yet.

Dd1 used it until she was almost 2 and dd2 until she was 1 - they both loved their bumbo

We got one for DS & have used it for both kids. They loved it. DS still sits in it sometimes. We found it handy as a portable highchair if we were going to the park or somewhere so DS could sit still to eat. Otherwise, he'd be off. He used it regularly right up until he was about 2. DD loved it when she was learning to sit as that is all she wanted to do. It might have been only 5 minutes before she got tired and wanted out but that gradually increased. ATM, she doesn't like it much as she is wanting to crawl all the time. We will keep it for using as a portable high chair again for another year or so.

So IMO - great investment, well worth it. I would probably look at getting one second hand as they keep really well and are rather expensive new. Ours is 2.5 years old & still looks great.

Love it, couldn't recommend it enough :lol: We also had the tray as well. I used it to start solids as DD was too small for a high chair. I would put it up on our bench and put food on the tray and she would nibble away while the boys would have their dinner.

We had one for our girls DD1 didn't use it for long but DD2 loved it and we used if for over a year with her :D

We had one for DD2, loved it! Was so useful and handy, we got the tray one too and it was the best thing we bought for the baby.
We got a second hand one from a FB buy and sell page for $50.

omg i love mine. i use it on the chaise to feed her while DS cuddles in next to me... two birds one stone. and lately int he shower so i can wash both kids and myself in one warm shower :) You have got to be careful that bub doesn't throw him/herself out of it tho and extra careful on benches/elevated surfaces... i wouldn't leave Immy unattended like that as she loves to throw herself about.
but she loves to sit in it and bounce and tap her feet on the floor :)
and it is also good in warm weather as pp mentioned :)

Oh, they don't have like a weight limit do they?

My chunky monkey was weighed today...erm, she is already 7.065kg at 13 weeks!

We have one but didn't use it much for ds as he had chunky thighs and would get a bit stuck at times in it. We also got the tray with ours (went second hand too). Not sure if we'll use it with no 2; it's a bit wait and see for them.

I bought one for DD2, never had a need for DD1 and certainly would not have needed it with her.

DD2 on the other hand was raring to go from the word dot and was such a cranky pants if she wasn't sitting up or moving or doing whatever it was she was wanting to do. I invested in one at 5 months for some relief from her frustration and it was great. I only used it for a couple of months with her then it became redundant as she was too keen to move or sit on her own but for that short time, for me, it was well worth the investment.

I have since lent it to a friend with twins and it has certainly come in handy when there are not enough hands to hold babies!

I don't think they are for every baby and I was aware of the controversy surrounding the use of them when I bought mine (they are not recommended to be used for long periods of time as a baby is not designed to sit up necessarily before being developmentally ready, google with help flesh that out a bit ;)) but for my situation with DD2, it gave me some sanity. I just kept in mind the discussions against them.

I love ours! We don't have a highchair, we stick DD in the bumbo in the middle of the table and she eats there as we have the tray too. I'm not sure how much longer we'll be using it though, we have the same issue as leckert in that DD has quite chubby little legs. I wonder if you might have the same problem, DD is currently 8.4kgs at 7.5 months, so if your son is over 7kgs at 13 weeks he may grow out of it quickly.

I've heard from a lot of people that love theirs. I was always told that it's not good to prop a child up into a sitting position until they are able to actually sit themselves. Basically, they do things when they are physiologically ready to do them and that we shouldn't force them. I know of quite a few people that have used them after their child can sit unaided as a way of stopping them from toppling while feeding and things like that though.

I borrowed two for my twins. Boytwin would get stuck as he had chunky thighs and girltwin would slip as she had skinny thighs. We gave them back to the kind friends who lent them to us within a week.

We bought one for DS, and he hated it, he only used it a handful of times. I was a bit disappointed as I'd had friends with babies who loved them, but not DS. I also recommend buying a second hand one, I sold mine on a local classifieds website for $30 and it was in perfect condition :)

Bumbo was recommended to me by SIL. I sisn't use it much before 4 months but now it's great to feed solids and so little one can be involved while we eat or I cook.....I have a HUGE island bench and put him in bumbo in the middle and cook while he sits and watches and plays with things. I mut say I have barely used the tray but I imagine it will be useful when he starts on finger food soon.
