Do you wear underwire bras?

So a status on my FB got me thinking. I'm planning a night out for probably around my birthday, which is the end of next month. I've got a pretty dress and was thinking about getting a really bra to go with it. But then, as a friend pointed out to me (thanks Feeb :) ) there's the chance that my boobs would get very full and I could get a blocked duct.

I normally wear Cake flexiwire BF bras, they're good but not underwire you know? So I'm wondering how other people roll with BF bras? My boobs always feel very empty, but I guess 6+ hours without a feed might be different. Seeing as I'm not planning on stopping BF until DD wants to, and others do that too, do you find you go back to underwire or stay in a BF bra for the duration?

What's your preference?

I wore underwire bras if I was going out without my babies. I would pump and dump in the loos though to release the pressure when my milk built up (and don't forget breast pads so you don't wet your unicorns ;))

I didn't but only because we were kind of povo when I was breastfeeding and I couldn't afford them. If I had been able to buy them I would have.

Wet Zombie unicorns would be a problem :lol:

I guess it's been do long since I've felt full, I can't really believe it'll ever happen again! I have a small pump, do I could definitely chuck that in a bag haha! Never thought of that. The logistics of going out without a baby!

I recently bought a couple of bf bras (thankyou DH for giving me money cause he was sick of me *****ing about my lack of support), and I managed to pick up a bf bra that had removeable underwire for that exact reason, the idea is that you wear it without the wire, but if you have to go out for a nice night out you can just pop the underwire in.
I think it would be alright because you are aware of the cons of underwire, so if you do feel you are getting too full etc.. you can do something about it. I guess the other good thing about the removable one is that just that, if it becomes too much of a problem you can just take it out, rather than suffering.

I started wearing underwire after DD was around 6 months and haven't stopped since then (so through feeding a toddler, another pregnancy and then newborn). I've never had a blocked duct even when I get engorged (and happens quite severely when DD1 spends a night at her dads as she misses a very large bedtime feed). I also wear underwire bras to bed more often than not as I enjoy the comfort and security of underwire. It seems to have worked fine for me so I guess it depends and you'll never really know unless you try. My breasts are a 10D-DD whilst breastfeeding if that means anything and I always make sure to be fitted when purchasing bras to ensure a proper fit which I'd assume might help?

My three Cake bras do have underwire, but yes I did with Nate if a BF bra wasn't going to cut it.

I have underwire nursing bras. If you're properly fitted, they're fine, once you're past the first couple weeks of engorgement and oversupply. I've never had any issue with them at all, and I really need the support! If you look online, you'll find some pretty ones. No need to wear the "industrial model" standard nursing bra all the time. ;)

I wore normal underwires sometimes as well - after about 6 months i think. I could go hours and hours without feeding & still wouldnt feel full etc. Id stopped wearing a mat bra by the time ds weaned at 20 months.

I wore bf until after DS warned at 2 1/2 plus. I did occasionally wear an underwire bra but it would only be for a few hrs at a time.
I remember being away from DS for the first time when he was 18 ish mnths and after about 12 hrs I was engorged so have a backup plan or take the bra off before passing out ;)

Yep sure did, i actually felt the tightness helped keep production down but who knows. I Pumped & dumped as needed like other ladies have said. I dont think at your dds age that it will be a problem, relax & enjoy your night

I started wearing underwire bras when I went out, so just for an evening here or there... but I didn't go out for a long time :lol: My little one would have been close to 18 months and feeding to sleep then not feeding again till 2am-ish so I wasn't missing feeds and didn't have any trouble with blocked ducts.

I do when bub is a bit older (about 10ish mths) and feeding a bit less. Only occasionally though for special outings/events. I will wear it for severaly hours and I'm usually ok.

I wore an underwire bra twice and holy crap did I pay for it! DD was 18mths and a bit older on both occassions, I got blocked ducts both times. Admittedly I still suffered engorgment at 18mths....

My maternity and BF were underwire bras. They were fantastic and the underwire was not wire as such but some special material designed for comfort and support. I will be back to edit later and let you know what brand they were. They were pricey. I only had 2 and they lasted all pregnancy and BF, it was all I would wear and the I paid them forward to another BB member :)


ETA: It was an Anita drop cup bra 5068. They were the most comfortable BF I had ever worn, I was quite big too, ended up a 32E from my usual 32C. I ended up buying the from an OS seller at a fraction of the cost of what you can buy them here after I got professionally fitted at my local bra store.

Generally not. When DD was 14 months old, we went to a wedding and I needed one to go with the frock. I was only away from her for 5 hours and didn't miss any feds, so no fullness. That's the only time. Otherwise, my BF bras are pretty good, although getting a bit worn out.

i cant coz mine are too saggy and underwire digs in i need to find one the fits and is comfortable
