Hello all!

This thread has been created as a general chatter thread for those who are breastfeeding their babies. It's designed for those who want to support each other in their breastfeeding journey, however long that may be. So let's start a cheersquad for all those who would like to support one another, for as long as they decide to breastfeed.

Ladylove, the way your breasts feel (floppy or otherwise) is no indication of supply. It's great that they've settled down already!

Your baby could be fussy for a number of reasons, but if you are concerned about supply, you can always try giving her an extra feed in between. Chances are, she won't take it, which means she's perfectly happy with the amount she's currently getting. My DD2 is most fussy when she's tired (overtired usually). She refuses to bf when she's desperate to go to sleep, so I know it's not hunger! But some babies will happily feed to settle themselves to sleep. My DD1 did!

Bear in mind too Ladylove that there is a huge growth spurt around 6 weeks-ish that could be causing the extra fussiness as your baby wants to feed lots to build your supply. Floppy doesn't really mean much, I'd go by how much comes out the other end to check there's enough going in :)

Minivini - it's the cabbage in coleslaw that irritates my boy. Turns him into a right royal little farty bum and gives him a tummy ache. Pity, cause I rather like it. I'm also limiting the amount of caffeine I consume otherwise he doesn't sleep very well - means a limit on chocolate, which sucks! Oddly though, curry doesn't bother him.

ah ok thanks girls. She has seemed more tired today and yesterday too - in the daytime she usually wakes up, feeds, has a play or is alert for an hour to an hour and a half, then off to bed for 45-60 mins. Because she tends to feed two hourly (with one three hour break during the day) her daytime naps are not that long. But today she has been sleepy even half an hour after getting up. yet she seems well otherwise so maybe it is a growth spurt. I do know she likes to suck on my boobs for fun and grizzles (aka screams) when I take her off anyway. This is a shallow suck she does after she has finished eating - the breast is nearer the front of her mouth and she sucks softly.

Sounds growth spurt-y to me Ladylove :) Trust your boobies :)

I'm so lucky, it doesn't appear that anything I eat in particular irritates DD, didn't with DS either. Either that or I don't notice and they just suffer along with me, lol. DD's struggled with her post-vaccination temp today and been a bit irritable. Hope she has a good night's sleep for all our sakes. Thank goodness DH is off work tomorrow (Good Friday) so there'll be two adults in the house :)

She just needs you, that's all ladylove, and this is the way she knows to get what she needs. It's all good. If you're worried about her milk intake, watch her nappies. that's your best signal that something's wrong

:cryinglaugh: {-- What I think of my situation right now. I'm so tired of Milly flipping around and being hyperactive when I'm feeding her! But I will admit, sometimes it's a bit funny and amazing the positions she gets in :lol: I've managed to get her to lay quietly and calmly, but it's taken at least an hour. :wall:

Heaven help me if she decides she wants to twiddle my other nipple (which I hate more than anything) - she can be almost asleep when her hand snakes up, but no matter how gently I remove it, she screams as though I've told her Santa doesn't exist :o

Thanks for the reassurance on DD's weight gain :) Everything else with breast feeding is going well. Although somedays I feel like a dairy cow and hardly move from the couch or bed as she wants to feed feed feed!

Ladylove my DD grizzles when she isn't finished with them either. Sometimes I watch her after she has come off in a milk coma and she does the whole suck thing but realises that my nipple isn't in her mouth and she grizzles. Its pretty funny.

Has anyone used a dummy while breast feeding? I am not using one but sometimes think it may help to settle her.

Thought I might join in here.

My DD Willow was born on 25 March. After some initial attachment issues we're slowly establishing BF and so far she's chowing down like a champ.

My boobs haven't settled yet and nips still a bit sore, but have almost stopped calling them 'pinchy' (left) and 'bitey' (right).

I'll probably have about a billion questions for you, so apologies - and thanks - in advance! Hopefully I can lend some support too, once I know what I'm doing :)

We are quickly approaching 12 months feeding here... I'm happy to say it has been smooth sailing all the way :).

Well, 22 months feeding DS, then a 5 month break, now feeding DD for almost 12 months...

Can I just say OUCH! DS discovered the boob scrunch this week. And he's got such a strong grip - he took skin off because I'd forgotten to cut his fingernails. Must stay on top of that!

And the back of the arm pinch - ow!

Rosey, I use a dummy and bf, never had any problems. DS had one from about a week and a half, DD didn't take it until just over a month. After night feeds I even have it sitting there and as they come off the boob asleep, I pop in the dummy and they stay snoozing away. Not saying it's the only method, but certainly works here.

lol Tegam - must admit, I'm a fan of child led weaning, but an 8 y-o would stretch my imagination a tad... I've only fed for just under 18 months so far (not continuously), looking forward to that being a lot longer :)

Tegam you beat me. DD1 bf for four years and then my bbs had about 20 mths break before DD2 arrived. Wonder how long they'll be needed this time around?

And I don't know if it's luck or genetics, but my bbs look pretty much the same as they always have. They are bigger during pg and for the first 6-12 mths, but after that they're back to normal.
