Anyone Else's Nearly 2yo With A Naturally Late Go To Bed Time?

So as the title says, DD2 will be 2 in July and it just seems to me that her natural going to bed time is around 9pm.

For months I've tried putting her to bed earlier and it's extremely frustrating as it will take almost an hour to get her to sleep. If I put her to bed later, it's easier.

It also doesn't seem to matter how much sleep she's had during the day or when she's had that sleep. Sometimes she has a 40 min nap, other times a 2 hour nap. Even when she's been to childcare (so had a full-on day) she still won't go to sleep much before 9pm.

I spoke to my mum last night and she told me that I was exactly the same and she always used to put me to bed after my sister (who's five years older than me) so about 8.30 at DD2's age. She said I got better when I went to school.

I dunno, I'm not happy with her going to bed this late, especially as I'm on my own at nights (DP works) so it makes for a very long day but at the same time, it's a lot easier to deal with if I just accept it rather than try to change it and getting cranky.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Yep. DD1 was pretty easy, but DD2's body clock was so messed up it wasn't funny! She was on a 10pm bed time for years... but that was better than 3am. She's now 8 - 8.30 thanks to school.

DS is anywhere between 9 & 11. Some nights he'll crash before bed time (8pm), but no matter what time he is settled in bed, he can lay there for hours without falling asleep.

DD3 is between 8 & 9. Not too bad. I don't mind because none of them wake before 7.30 in the mornings. So I get a couple hours to myself after they go to bed, but I'm not up too early in the mornings. And if I need to I can get up earlier & none of them disturb me :)

DS goes to bed at 11pm. A used to sleep from 1am to 6am and wake screaming, so to me 11pm until 7am is wonderful. DD1 has to go to bed later (8pm) otherwise she wakes up at 5am and I'm not a morning person. I'm thinking of pushing DD2 and DD3s bedtime to 7.30pm to encourage them to sleep in. My insomnia is out of control and I never get to sleep before 1am no matter how tired.

Yep!! DDs natural bedtime is between 10pm and 12. i have been slowly working it back to 9pm. 8pm would be awesome.

DH is a shift worker too, and i am more of a morning person so the day is very long if i don't have DH to take on some of it at night.

Ds1 had been 9pm for ages, we're slowly clawing it back to 8-8:30. I just learnt to accept it and not try to put him to bed earlier for ages as it was just getting me stressed with him not sleeping. If we did manage to get him down earlier he was getting up at 5am or earlier so we went with the later bedtime. Now we're about 8pm to 6/7am and that's reasonable (although the past 2 mornings it's been 5am again:wall: )

My DD was always a late to bed child. Until she totally dropped her day sleep at about 2 years 9 months. Now she is in bed at 7 and asleep within 10 mins!

My DS goes to sleep at around 9 as well. However I consider that early as he used to only go to sleep at around 11 until about a month or so ago!!! :o

I started a routine of sorts when my husband left a couple of months ago and now DS has dinner before 7, a bath afterwards and then storytime and boob to sleep somewhere around 8-9. It is taking me ages to get him to sleep now so I am thinking of moving the bath to a bit later so I am not spending two hours getting him to sleep every night!!

my ds will be 3 in july but he's similar. he usually goes to bed somewhere around 8.30. it was more like 9-9.30 but it's got a little earlier. it doesnt matter how long he's slept for during the day or even how tired he seems in the evening - if you try & get him to bed earlier, it just takes till the normal time for him to go sleep anyway. im hoping that his bedtime will get a bit earlier once he drops the day nap. it does make for a long day & means less time to unwind at the end of the day but ive never had much success influencing his sleep. and as it took till he wad around 2 for him to sleep for any more than 2 hours at a time, i dont want to mess with it!!!

Gah so last night DDs went to bed at 7pm and all woke up at 5am this morning. I wish they would sleep until at least 6.30am!

Ditto, recently something just clicked with DD1 and now she eats earlier and hoes to bed at about 7pm. This was a few months after she dropped the day sleep. Gee those few months between the 2 events were fun!

Yup - DS was about 8.30; he'd be up until 11pm with no ill effects the next day if he could though! And do that every day if possible - even without day sleeps. (I didn't continue that experiment beyond 3 days, but he was a "good" child those three days too.)

Now he's at school, he's asleep before 8pm most nights, earlier if he can be. However, he does get up at 6.30-7am now. If we give him a late night on a weekend he stays in bed until about 8.30-9am, which is bliss. (Only DH won't make every Friday night Late To Bed night like I would!)

Yes, DS is a night owl just like his dad. Bedtime is anywhere from 8:30 to 9:30 these days. There are times I worry about it, especially if I've had to wake him in the morning, but the majority of time I feel I'm fighting nature to get him to bed earlier. In our case also, DS had bad wind for the first 12months or so, so it wasn't unusual to be finally settling around 1am after we'd been up together trying to get him comfortable. I'm glad I'm not to only one with a late to bed child.

I love my sleep ins too. so some weekends I get to sleep in until 9! Ahhh, I love my DS.

Yep DD1 was the same but much later than 9pm probably closer to 12, and that was with no day sleep he dropped that by the time he was 12months. He also was not an early riser. When he was about 2.5 though bedtime seemed to creep forward and soon turned to about 8.30pm, with a bit of an earlier wake time in the morning.

DS3 is another (until this week actually :hooray:) Natural bed time between 10.30pm and 12 depending on what time he had his day sleep. Also not an early riser. Just this week we've finally managed to drop the day sleep and he goes down by 8.30pm and up a bit earlier. I just rode it out. The frustration of not settling when you try to get them down earlier was worse for me than just going with it. A oh how I'm appreciating it now!! Free time at night and not being so tired I fall into bed as soon as he's asleep(must be something about 2.5) :D

My DS1 goes to bed between 8-8.30pm, but sometimes is awake until well after 9pm. If he's missed his day sleep its more like 7.30pm. My DH doesn't get home from work until between 7-7.40pm, so late suits us. DS1 gets up around 7am

Yep hun, for us it's anywhere between 8.30-9 pm. But, if DS has no day seelp, he's exhausted by 6 pm and usually in bed by 7-7.30. I do prefer him having his day sleeps though, he's a wee devil after 2 or 3 days with no day naps. AND I get to sleep in too when he goes to bed later (around 8 am). Except this morning, he woke up at 6.30 not a happy mummy :shakehead:

DD goes to bed around 9/10 and is up around 8ish most days.
She still sleeps most days (usually around 2 hrs in the arvo)

does anyone else have a lo that's late to bed but gets up early? ds was getting up somewhere between 630-7 but since daylight savings finished it's now 530-6.

We had the late to bed, early to wake for a while especially just after daylight savings finished and for at least a couple of months before it started. We're finally getting better 8pm - 6/7am sleeping :leap: it's only taken 2 years.
