Kind of embarrassing- pelvic floor issue

So I have this problem. I havent told my GP about it and havent had a midwife appointment yet but I need to know if I am alone on this or not.

I have quite a bit of morning sickness this pregnancy and I am finding that every time I go to vomit or dry reach, I end up doing a little bit of a wee. :redface: This can be even after I have already emptied my bladder just before hand.

I didnt seem to have any of these problems between my first pregnancy and before falling pregnant again so I thought my pelvic floor was okay- not great, but okay. Now I am not so sure....

Is my pelvic wall collapsing? Is it going to get worse as the pregnancy goes on> I am feeling quite worried to be honest.

I found I had the same problem while I was pg with dd. I didn't experience it with ds but I had a cough when I was first pg with dd and it was like a dry retch and I'd get a tiny bit of leakage - it was like it happened thr second I got a + hpt. I made sure I did my pelvic floor exercises and it pretty much went away after the cough did.

it went completely once dd was born.

definitely worth doing pelvic floor exercises.

Happens to me too. If I sneeze more than twice, cough hard, laugh too hard, lift too much, yell too hard etc. It's awful, I do my pelvic floor exercises as much as I can.

Your GP or midwife can refer you to a physio to help with your pelvic floor. It's not unusual at all, don't be embarrassed to discuss it with your health care providers. Hope you get some relief from the ms soon xx

I think it is a common thing while pregnant- I just had that flu from hell and while at emergency, the (male) doctor says to me "so eighteen weeks pregnant right? I suppose you are now wetting yourself every time you cough?"... He was sooooo right- I had only cried to my DH the day before when I wet my pants while coughing
I am guessing vomitting would have a similar effect...... Ahhh, the joys.....

I had a really pad chest infection at 34-37weeks with DD and i was wearing a pad just to get through the day. It was awful. Even in general now, if i happen to be squatting down talking to children and sneeze, or any exercise with lots of jumping - cant skip for eg.

Thanks so much for your comments girls. I was so embarrased about it but you girls have made me feel slightly more normal. I will mention it to my midwife when I ahve my first appointment and will make sure I do the ppelvic floor exercises regularly and hopefully it will happen less once this sickness passes.

Sounds very normal to me. Im pg for the first time and i was having the same issue.
The exercises have Definately helped! Still have to change my clothes occasionally though.

i do my pelvic floor all the time but when i was pg with dd i would always wee when i threw up. no matter what. only happened when pg tho. havent had any dramas since

I had this worse with each pregnancy - I had to be referred to physio after my last birth and I know I will be terrible when I fall pregnant again but I just invest in allot of panty liners and do my exercises. So don't worry your not alone it's a very common problem x

I had the same in the first trimester. I haven't had it happen for a while now but I'm sure it will!

totally happens to alot of people when they are pg!!!
Being sick is so sucky
those damn ligaments start to loosen alot earlier the 2nd time around and you have to work harder to keep things together!!!

My solution was to sit on the loo when I was being sick and puke in a bucket !!! that way no pee accidents!!!
Keep doing your exercises because it will make a big difference- i found that doing pilates was a great help as well!!!
also watch the types of drink you are drinking- diet drinks made me more suspectable to 'accidents' lol
hopefully this will soon pass !!!

This is such a common issue with pregnancy they hand out leaflets on pelvic floor issues at my antenatal clinic. Keep doing your exercises, wear liners (if you can) and tell your midwife so she can refer you to a physio. The exercises do make a huge difference, even if you only remember them a couple of times a day. (am in my 4th pregnancy, would hate to think what I would have been like if I didn't do pelvic floor exercises)

Before kids I used to laugh at my Nanna when she stopped to cross her legs so she could sneeze. She had 6 kids. I'm on my second! Needless to say I never have laughed again.

AliBaby, I'm a physio who's worked in Women's Health, and I can assure you that, just as the other ladies have said, urinary incontinence in pregnancy is a pretty common complaint. It's generally worse for pregnant women in the first trimester, and third trimester. First is because the rapid increase in hormones affects the way your bladder itself and the bladder closure muscles work, and of course it's aggravated by any vomiting from m/s. It often settles down in second trimester, and then in third trimester it increases again as the weight that your pelvic floor is trying to support increases... Add a bend, lift, cough, sneeze on top of the weight, your pelvic floor reaches it's limit and you get a bit of leakage.

Definitely don't be embarrassed about it, but talk to the midwife, and get a referral to a Women's Health Physio. Getting stuck into pelvic floor exercises now - and being absolutely sure that you're doing them correctly - will make a big difference to how you cope through the rest of the pregnancy and afterwards!

Its more common to let a little go just after you have been to the toilet as the muscles are relaxed which is why despite having a kind of empty bladder already its more common to have a little stress incontinents just after you have been to the loo compared to when your busting.

I had the same problem. It got worse with each bub.

I got in the car once when pg with DD3. I didn't even get out the driveway when I had to go back inside. Walked in, ex looks at me, wondering what I'm doing... 'I sneezed'. Thats all I needed to say :lol:

Thankfully its stopped for me after each baby though. As soon as the pressure is off :)
