At what age did you DS or DD start choosing their own clothes. DS has just turned 3 and doesn't care what he wears - I'm not complaining as makes life a hell of a lot easier - but have a number of friends whose kids around the same age dictate what they will and won't wear each day. Doesn't seem to make any difference whether they are boy or girl so curious as to what others are doing at that age?
Dd has exclusively dressed herself since three. I can sometimes persuade her to add a jacket or swap long sleeves for short, but I generally tell her what the weather will be and she does the rest. I love her combinations too!
DS1 since about 3. DS2 has since he was 2 and 1/2. Drives me nuts!!
DS1 always wants a long sleeve top and long pants as it doesnt hurt if he falls over!!!! Cracks it If I say no its too hot!!
DS2 has to have pictures on every top!
DD1 well and truly since she was 2. DD2 probably not until about 3 but on my goodness, she really knows what she wants now when it comes to clothes - there are a couple of things I've bought for her that she simply won't wear because she doesn't like them and on the flip side, a few things that she has worn to death because she loves them so much and wants to wear them all the time, whether the weather/activity is appropriate or not.
And now the fun is really starting because they're also starting to choose what DD3 is going to wear from the nappy out. I'm having to hide some of her clothes that are either not season appropriate, or that she doesn't fit into yet

My DD only really wanted to choose her own clothes from probably about 3 as well. We start with the weather too - "is it a cold day or a warm day mummy?" and I tell her which one and offer a suggestion like "maybe leggings and a long sleeved top today?" Which she may or may not listen too! And she's mostly happy to let me say "no, that's too cold, find something with longer sleeves" and she'll get changed, which is good.
DS1 doesn't care what I put him in!!
Dd is just 2 1/2 and the only control I have over what she wears is what is in the laundry (she won't wear anything that is "wet") everything else is fair game.
And every outfit is finished with a skirt!
DS picked what he was wearing from about 2 and was dressing himself entirely by 2.5. Lucky he is a boy so you can't go too far wrong with shorts and tee shirts :)
DD1 doesn't care at all what she is wearing and has no inclination to do it herself.
I say enjoy while it lasts.
DD1 likes to help me pick her clothes but she is easy to please so not to hard.
DD2 will say no to a 100 things before the right clothes are found:doh:
My DDs dress themselves and have done for almost a year. DD2 wears almost exclusively her brother's clothes. DD1 and DD2 dress DS for me because he just doesn't care :lol:
For the most part my DS doesn't really care either. He'll have the odd day where he doesn't want to wear what I've gotten out for him, or must wear a particular thing, but it's kinda random and he generally doesn't care. He'll be 4 in Feb
DS doesn't really care most of the time. He has a favourite tshirt that he would wear everyday if I let him but he's not too fussed if it's in the wash or it's too cold and I tell him to choose another one.
DD is the opposite though and has very strong feelings on what she will and won't wear. From around 2.5yrs she started refusing to wear jeans and will only wear skirts/dresses with tights or leggings. At age 5 she still won't wear jeans although I did manage to get her into track suit pants just this winter. She's a fussy one!
Ds1 and dd both chose their 1st outfit to buy at about 9mths old *sigh* and that was a bad sign. Ds1 has always been picky about his clothes but at 6 he can dress himself. Dd at 17mths can't articulate why she wants something but can be persuaded to change sometimes. Ds2 has his likes but doesn't really care what he wears. I put away clothes that are too big/small or out of season.
My 6 and 4 year old boys don't care. If I say they have to choose, they stay in their pyjamas or grab the first thing in the drawer.
Both can dress themselves but they aren't interested.
DD1 - Around 2.5yrs... She is now 4 and my golly sometimes we have some "arguements" over what she wants to wear and what i think is more "weather" appropriate LOL
DD2 - Since 21mths - she likes to do whatever her big sister does!
Dd1 from about 3, dd2 before she was 2! Dd2 is very stubborn and I have now had to take her shopping to get her clothes because if sh takes objection to something she won't even try it on - ever!
My boytwin doesn't care what he wears but he gets no choice but to choose his own clothes, I have enough to do without picking outfits for him lol! All my kids have been expected to find clothes and dress themselves since about 3, and apart from boytwin they have all relished this task. Especially girltwin and DS2 who have very distinct senses of style.
DD certainly doesn't dress herself, but there have been recent occasions where a favourite Tshirt has been left out from the day before and if it is not put on her the next day she cracks it! She is currently very reluctant to wear jacket tops (she takes them off) as she wants to see the Tshirt underneath. As a result she has arrived at childcare numerous times in just a Tshirt and pants even though its cold as she won't keep her hoodies on.
Lol, seems like boys are a tad easier in that department! My DS who is 31 months, does not care at all what I dress him in but when I say bring your top/pants/shoes it's cute to watch him bring clothes and shoes that totally don't match at all, so mummy goes back and picks what she likes, lol.
