What do you do with good quality baby/toddler clothes your kids no longer fit?

I've got boxes and boxes of boys clothing from newborn to size 1 (which DS3 is fast growing out of). What do you do with baby clothes once your child/children grow out of them?

Of course I could give them all away, but some of them are good brand name clothes in great condition. Some things never worn, or only worn once or twice. I keep thinking I could get a few dollars for them... and then probably turn around and buy my kids more clothes!

For those that sell ... what's the best way to sell baby clothes? Online or via garage sale etc. Any tips?

Of course I'm incredibly attached to a good few of my boys' clothing items ... I only hope I have the strength and courage (... sob!:rolleyes:) to part with them when push comes to shove (albeit, I am definitely keeping a few things for the sake of sentimentality).

I give them to my gorgeous nieces if they are relatively unisex. Otherwise the charity bins. I'm too lazy for eBay etc,

I keep a few items that I'm particularly attached to (read: lots! :lol:) and give the rest to a women's refuge.

I have bought from FB Buy Swap Sell groups. I prefer local to ebay.

Depends on whether I am working or not - if not working I often sell items if can get a few dollars for them - on here (think is in platinum section), or at a baby kids market, this year am trying garage sale trail. If I am working then dollars aren't so crucial and time is more precious so I donate them to any charity bins there are around. (Depending on the items and whether I have friends who might want them I also offer to friends). I don't keep any.

I figure that I can't afford to really make a difference by donating money to charity, we couldnt afford to keep going with our world vision sponsorship - so this is the only thing I can give.

I could probably sell it and make some much needed cash - but it makes me feel better as a person to donate it.

Do you have a local Buy Swap Sell site on FB?

I'd love to hand some/most of them over to a family member or close friend, but DS3 is the youngest child in those circles.

I daresay 3/4 of what I've got will go to charity ... but if I can I'd like to get a few $$ back from all the money that I spent on baby clothes over the years. No idea about sites on FB Kim ... I might have a scout around.

I had planned on paying for a table at our church's regular children & baby stuff market doodad, but I'm wondering whether we would actually make our money back with any allowance for our time and effort!

And then compare that to the question of the *value* of those things to my baby bro, who is planning on having kids with his wife at some point, and who might get more out of the items (clothes, toys, MCNs, etc) than the $ we'd get out of them ...

My absolute favorite things I gave away to a friend with a new little girl, but they live far away from us so that was only a box or two that went across when DH was visiting. After that, we had a table at one of the baby & child second hand markets. I went with the original venue (rather than others that have sprung up in other places since) and we used that same opportunity to sell some of the bigger items of kid/toddler furniture, prams, large baby toys, etc. All up we made nearly $500 but that ate a day of prep and several hours on the stall itself and the big $$ came from the big items, not so much the clothes. Other items we have sold gradually via the social club classifieds at DH's work (he works for a large organisation). Then there were a couple of years when I just put them in the bag to go to charity. Now, we've connected with a family with a DD who is 18 months younger than my DD so she gets the handmedowns now. But I only hand down the best & nicest things and everything else goes to charity. I have strict rules about this because we've been given handmedowns in the past that were awful and I found it really embarrassing.

Tried selling a couple of times with little success. Not worth the effort washing, sorting, labeling etc Totally frustrating watching people um and ah over a $1 hat.

If I have something particularly nice, I do like to hand those directly onto someone I know. But, these days it has to happen pretty quickly, as I just find it better to get them out of the house.

I sell some items on EBay & FB groups and I donate to a charity that supports mothers in need.

I've only kept my absolutely favorites from when DS was little and I'll be making both kids a blanket of their baby clothes for when they're a little older.

The rest I have given to friends over time.

I've kept some of it for sentimental reasons, the stuff in good/reasonable condition goes to charity and if there are any really good pieces left I sell on a facebook group for our local area. I tend more to do this for really good quality toys and linen etc rather than clothing though.

My sister sells everything on eBay and gumtree. But then she is always complaining about the hassle.

Why on earth would a SA person give you a hard time about donating clothes???

Thanks again for all your help ladies. I'm thinking I might sell a few of the almost brand new stuff on Gumtree, give some to a couple of mums from my eldest son's class who are having babies, and anything else to charitable organisations :)

Same here!!!! But this was with st vinnies.

I had bags and bags of baby clothes and toys and he full on told me to sort it out infront of him then glimpsed at each bag and threw them in the bin

I was soooo offended coz there was some good stuff in eah bag.

Still really hurt by it.
