Belly band for nursing?
I was looking at an online store for nursing mothers and came across a "belly band" made for nursing mothers. (also useful for pregnancy, I guess, when you're not quite into mat pants, but can't do up your own.) Anyways, it is just a band of soft stretchy fabric, about 10 inches wide that you wear to cover your belly and back so you can comfortably lift your shirt to nurse. (without exposing all that lovely stretchy saggy tummy skin.) Sounded like a good idea to me, but I was wondering if anyone here on BB has used one, and whether the band worked like it was supposed to, or whether it was a pain in the bum. (ie. wrinking, riding, sagging, not covering, whatever.) Any other suggestions for something that has the same effect? I've looked at some of the nursing tank tops, and they look lovely too, but around here, they are EXPENSIVE! $40-50 seems like too much to pay for a tank top to me! (Maybe I'll just have to break down and do it, and take really good care of it, so it lasts me a long time!)
Anyways, if you have something that worked well for you - let me know!

I have 5 in different colours off Ebay that I wore while I was pregnant and still now to keep warm and cover up while BF - I have seen some in Target not sure of the price!!
-
They do have them in target now yep. I also bought cotton on singlets which were extra long and would wear them under everything in the early days because you can just stretch the top down under a bb to feed & keep your belly covered.
-
Yep... I have 4 of them!!! I bought mine of Ebay too... And I still use them today around the house... I found breast feeding loads easier when wearing them... and the LC actually recommended that I wear them rather than a nursing bra.
-
saw some in target the other day for $19.99 but they go fast
-
Yep Caro... I wore them over my pants whilst pregnant... then after Harry was born, I pulled them up and they become like a boob tube type thing which is fantastic to use whilst breastfeeding.

I just had a look at online shops in US and Canada & found some at Target US as well.... HTH!
-
I bought one from ebay the other day & am just waiting for it to arrive so I can wear my regular jeans! It was only $8 including postage, so maybe try ebay.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have looked a little at e-bay, but I've never actually purchased anything from it before, so I'm still a little nervous about it. (also - and maybe this is my Dutch blood coming out - by the time I figured in the shipping and handling, the tops I saw would still cost me $20-25, which is a fair bit for something second hand!)
I'm going to check around at the local department stores a little more carefully. I've never seen nursing tank tops there, but I haven't really looked yet either. Maybe if I start asking around here, I'll come up with some good sources. BTW - Target is not available in Canada. But, I am only 20min from the US border, so I could go check it out.
Anyways, I'd still love to hear from anyone with advice or suggestions. Thanks!

I bought mine from an ebay store called 4mumstums. They ship to Canada... they do packs of 3 for $A20 and 4 for $A38-42.

Thanks Lisa - I'll have a look for that one. That sounds a lot better than what I was coming up with.

Hi, I have just recieved something called a booby bib...
its probably more for nightime use, but I thought people may like to know about it.
Its a feeding singlet top, that doesnt need a maternity bra worn underneath it.
It also eliminates the need for breast pads as it absorbs the breast milk.
It has a zip at the top for easy boobie access too.
I wore it for the first time last night, and it was great. I hate having to wear mat bras 24/7.
If you would like the website for this, PM me.
It can also be found on ebay, and they are brand new, no sloppy seconds.
I do like the idea of the belly band though.... I must get into target and check them out.
I forgot to mention... it cost me $20AU including postage.

Hey Squishy - not sure if that would be great for me, since I do wear a bra 24/7, and need the support! But I'd love to check out the site anyways. Please do PM the address to me. Thanks! :)

Hi, I had one of those while I was pg but it's too big now to wear, plus I would need multiples 'cause my little boy is a messy feeder.
I'm planning to head to spotlight next week and buy some stretchy t shirt material and make some custom ones for me. I'm planning to make them long enough to go from boobs to bum to cover everything!!

Are we supposed to wear bras 24/7??? I don't wear one at night, I hope that is ok...I just put a towel down to catch the leaks :S I wear long tanks and if it is cold I add extra layers, I didn't buy in to BFing clothes because I don't have the budget for it. I might look into those bands if my pants ever get over my thighs again

I know what you mean. I haven't used them for nursing but I can see they would be great. Motherhoodcanada has them for just over $20 on line and if you live in a larger center maybe there is a store near you. I bought a band while pregnant but unfortunately didn't get a chance to wear it.:(

If you can sew those belly bands are easy enough to make yourself. I just went and bout some stretchy material and made my own, I think they only too me about 15 mins to knock up.

OK I just did and Ebay search and now I know what they are, I have 2 from Supre that I bought when they were in fashion at the start of the layering craze. I wouldn't have a chance to get them over one leg now nevermind my waist  I agree they would be very easy to sew yourself at the fraction of the price.
