Scar tissue from Episiotomy *WAY TMI*

For a while now DTD has been rather painful and I feel like I have torn at the "enterance" iykwim. I had an episiotomy with Oscar which is what I am 100% sure is my problem. Some lovely girls from AO suggested it may have been scar tissue which I feel it is. I decided to have a "feel" the other night after a rather painful session of DTD. Where I am hurting is where my scar is and even inside it is painful to touch. It feels like I am being stabbed when touching it directly inside.

What can be done about this? I really don't want to have a sore hoo-haa anymore :(

It sucks that you are still experiencing pain. Is it only when DTD or other times too? Is there any different discharge?

Only when we DTD. Otherwise I feel normal when walking around, sitting etc.
Unless we have DTD then I am sore for the next day or so. The pain inside only hurts while touching it though and then it goes away. I have no different discharge thank goodness!

I will BJ but I just wanted some opinions from here first. I have recently moved and have not seen a Dr here as yet so I am a little apprehensive about going to one that I don't know about this. I'm a bit of a sook.

Oshani - I had similar, and it was the scar tissue. I ended up seeing a post-natal specialist physio and she gave me "exercises". Pretty much it's scar tissue. Think about a cut on your arm. You have a cut, you get stitches, and then after the actual wound has healed, the scar is raised and tender. For the first while when you touch the scar, it hurts - its just sensitive.

The exercises she gave me were to touch the scar tissue. Using lube, just touch the tissue, like a tap with your finger. (or DH's finger - it really helped for him to do it!) and keep doing that until you desensitise the area. Light taps to begin with, then harder taps as you go along. It took months before DTD didn't hurt any more ... but now its better than ever and DH is a lot more "considerate".

I had a tiny little internal 'graze' with my first DD and even now- 3 years later it gets sore from time to time, and i have been told that it will get better with time but when i am more hormonal than usual it kind of swells and gets sore and if we DTD at that time it will be sore fora few days.

I would go and get it checked out by a gyno!

There's a really gentle internal massage you or your partner can do. Using small circular movements with the pads on your thumbs (or index fingers with partner) - keep the communication and keep it very gentle.

I used this technique to stretch my scar tissue from the same procedure and follow through tear and it worked wonders for us.

Oh Danielle, I can really sympathise with you, I am going through the exact same thing, the only difference is that I tore naturally.
If you get any answers I'd really appreciate if you could let me know as I too don't want a sore hoo-ha anymore, it makes DTD difficult and I just don't want to because it hurts!

I also forgot to add that I had a second degree tear but I only just found that out a few weeks ago (Noone told me in hosital :rolleyes: )

ahhh that sux Danielle. I had a 2.5 deg tear (little brat had his chin resting on his hand) that was stitched - no wonder it hurts for you!!!

Good luck with the massage but a trip to your GP would also be a good idea just to get it all checked out gorgeous.

i too had heaps of problems, the best thing i got was a lube called Sylk! made things so much more comfortable during DTD and seemed to sort itself out with. its taken a loooooonnnnggggg time!!

I had a few different problems too, I had two tears and then an episiotomy, small bubs and lots of damage!!!

We ended up discovering that an internal stich hadn't dissolved, which was causing me a lot of pain, and created a ridge, my OB removed the stitch then I didn't stop bleeding :doh: my platelets were still low so she had to put another one in - lucky this one dissolved quickly.

I also had a cauliflower shaped piece of skin which was just how I healed and that was cortorised.

My OB also gave me a cream called Ovestran, which I massage when it is painful, and now it is a whole lot better. A lot less painful and we can now finish with out me wanting to run away!!!

I would get check by a Gyno and get it sorted sooner rather than later, I feel sooo much better for getting it all sorted :hugs:

I dont know anything about scaring in your girly area ;), but I recently was perscribed a protein cream for a blood clot (in another area). The cream is suppose to be used for breaking down scar tissue, and helping in the breaking down of blood clots (hence why I got it). You can just buy it from the pharmacy without perscription, but I`d recommend asking your GP about it first. You may need to use a few tubes of it for a while - not sure, but my clot didnt dissolve over night iykwim.

I had an episiotomy and then tore as well (third degree tear). Since we are talking tears here, I have been wondering something. Both my OB and my physio (who was helping me with rehab of the area) have "seriously advised" me to have a CS with the next baby because of the bad tear and the chance of it happening again. I think they are both worried about damage to my bowel/anal area and the complications that come with that. I have had trouble with emptying my bowel since I had Zoe (it still continues) and I am told this is due to nerve damage.
I really don't want to have any further bowel complications in the future, but I also don't want to have a CS if i don't need one!
I am a bit confused and want to sort myself out before i even think about having another baby.
Do any of you have experience with this, or know of anyone who has?

Massage techniques to the scar will help make the scar more supple and elastic, not only making it less painful but also if you have another baby it will aid in the optimal functioning of your pelvic floor.
