What is it with people thinking they are "belly" experts?!?

Why is it that when you're pregnant, everyone says "oh you are soooo having a ....." and they are convinced they are right!!! By just looking at my belly.......

We know our little monkey's gender but we aren't telling a soul! We love knowing and others not knowing and want it to be a lovely surprise on the day of the birth..... yet people "still" try and guess and in fact, have started to p*ss me off about it because they THINK they know everything about the shape of your belly and how you are carrying etc .... oooh it must mean you are carrying a BOY or it must be a GIRL!! I'm glad we do know the gender otherwise people's opinions might probably make me believe one way or the other if that makes sense LOL

Does EVERYBODY else get this?? Ok at first it didn't bother me but there is two people in my life that just won't let up!! So i don't even say anything anymore I just nod and smile and let them think they know what they're talking about..... :lol: hahaha!!



There is no way you can tell from looking at someone's belly what they are carrying inside!! Everyone has different shaped bellies to begin with, the babies are different sizes or could be lying a certain way in mum's belly..... there are sooo many different things!! And if you do happen to guess it right then it was purely just a lucky guess huh!!

Hey Ren - i get that a little bit however we dont know what we are having so find ppl thoughts on it a bit interesting- but what really annoys me is the comment that im sooo tiny or small and when they dont believe me when i say how far along i am! It actually makes me worried that something may be wrong!
For once in my life i dont want too be tiny or small - i want too be big!!! hahaha - i guess either way we just cant win!

So if everyone says you are having a BOY or GIRL do you then start to believe the majority of people who say what you're having??? Just interesting to hear how you feel about what you're having.... is it because everyone has told you it's a .....?

I'm glad we know the gender otherwise i'd get mega confused!!! LOL For someone who doesnt know the gender, it would get confusing listening to everyone telling you what it is huh??

Nope i stick with my gut feeling that i have had since day one! and thats im having a boy!!!! i just think its funny how ppl claim too be the expert at these things! whats also funny is when they do the ring test - have u done that?

Yep, i did the ring test and it told me I was having what i'm having ;) it was right.

But I don't believe in all those old wives tales.... lol I have only done the ring test one cos' a friend made me do it!! haha

the way people think they know about your belly and what you're carrying is an old wives tale too isnt' it?? so frustrating old wives tales LOL :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Just like you we decided to find out and not tell anyone else- it's killing my husband!!!

We work in the same office, and we have a book going at work ($1 bets for correct sex with nearest date and time to the actual birth winning all the cash), so there's a lot of discussion, but about 50% are right- some people swear their methods are right.

I just nod and smile, and say, you'll know what it is in a few weeks.

Yeah we were going to start a betting thing to where people can win money LOL but we havent been bothered yet..... good idea tho!!

LOL Most days it honestly doesn't bother me but today it bothered me..... I think i'm just feeling hormonal and cranky and my sciatica pain isnt helping LOL

We don't know and didn't find out last time either. I actually liked having people guessing and never let it get to me at all. I usually just nod and smile. Everyone I have shown my ultrasound pic to says it looks like a boy - really? It looks like a baby to me - I can't see any gender identifying features. Last time DP's sister was certain I was having a girl from the way I was carrying. She hasn't seen me this time though.

Yeah i got that both times - and its amazing how many people said i was carrying a boy because my belly was lower this time around - and apparently thats how you tell :rolleyes:

My friend looked at my ar$e and said - yup, you're having a girl cos your butt has gotten bigger.. LOL

Oh joy......isn't it lovely how everyone all of a sudden becomes an expert!

Renstar we are having another scan tomorrow cause apparently the stupid DR thinks i am a little small, anyway back on the topic.....DP said to me last night "if you realy want to find out what we are having its alright you can" i was like no way i have gotten to 30+wks now and there is now way i want to know, now that we are so close.....that would just ruin the surprise :lol:

I think it is all hogswash! Come on people it's a coin toss, half the time you get it right, half the time you are wrong, but when you pretend you are dead sure when you have no idea, you are a nob!

.....exactly, you have a 50% chance of getting it right, with those odds of course people are going to add their worth. My old boss made me turn around, looked me up and down and said 'yep, your having a boy, you can tell the way your standing from behind' - WTF ???? Ha ha, it turned out to be a girl.

I hated it too.....

We didn't get that exactly when I was pregnant cos we knew we were having a boy from 16 weeks due to an amnio & told everyone straight away. What we did have was stuff like:

"You can tell you are carrying a boy because you are carrying high".
"You can tell you are having a boy because you are so small".
"You can tell you are having a boy because you are all belly".

Honestly people just make it up as they go along.

The belly shape one really is annoying and i dont believe it at all - cause we all have such different shapes.
Funny how some people say oh you are so big, others say oh you are tiny - depends on what you wear I reckon!!
Funny thing is - when someone says oh you are having a boy..i think to myself ..oh i would love a little girl..then when they say oh you are having a girl..i think oh a little boy would be nice!!! I am a silly one...

Only a few weeks until we prove some people right or wrong :)

i am 17 weeks and i'm getting it already. i'm only a small frame so i'm showing and i told everyone we heard the heartbeat yesterday and it's approx 140 bpm and someone automatically said to me oh that means your probably carrying a boy cause theres was higher at 160 and it turned out to be a girl. i thought to myself i have another 5 months of hearing all these wivestales till someones right.
we're not finding out at our scan so i'm just sticking to my gut feeling i've had for a while and just smile and nod.

Hah! Yeah, everyone told me "youre carrying high - must be a boy"... then once she dropped a bit it was "youre carrying low - must be a boy".

Or "oh morning sickness - must be all those boy hormones"...
I also got the following stupid comment when someone commented that my hair was looking darker "yeah I've heard that happens when your having a boy".

One lady I know insisted she was right EVERY TIME (come on- theres only two options to choose from so its really not that hard!) and told me that because I had a neat looking belly it must be a boy.

well... no boy here. I had a little girl.

I have never looked at a pregnant woman and said "Yep definitely you are having a ....." because I know how annoying it is!! lol I do however for fun just say (and once only) i reckon its a .... BOY/GIRL and just guess for fun but not based on anything you know?? Purely as just a fun guess.....
