I almost faced this. At 34 weeks bub was breech, and they told me that if he was still breech at my next appointment (yesterday at about 36 weeks), that we would talk about doing ECV at about 37 weeks. An ECV is where they manually, from the outside, turn bub around. If this didn't work there was talk of an elective c/s. A lot of hospitals go straight for a c/s with a breech baby, cause it's easier and safer for mum and bub.
By 36 weeks, midwives and doctors like bub to be head down, but this doesn't necessarily mean that bub won't turn. My midwife said that a lot of the time, a woman will go in for an ECV and bub will have turned. It's all just precaution.
Sorry to have babbled on - hope this helps.
Thank you Selina!
she has just msg'd me to say that head is up - but dosent want to chat atm! for obvious reasons i guess!
im sure all will be okay tho! i told her about the ECV - but dont know as of yet what the doc has said!
Her Jelly Bean is prob just giving mummy a run for her money already! hehe
Hope everything turns out for her.
Not all places do ECVs, and some places might even give the option of attempting a breech birth - every doctor/hospital is different.
Good luck to her :).
Thank you!
Aw poor thing HJ I can imagine her concern, maybe when she is up for a chat you could also mention acupuncture and moxibustion, both have good success rates at turning bub. Also there is the spinning babies website that you could direct her to. :)
Oh yes, Tanstar, I'd forgotten all about the Spinning Babies site. Here's the link:
www.spinningbabies.com
I had a good look at this when bub was breech - I tried out a couple of things, and who knows, maybe that was what helped bub to turn?!?
Thanks Tan will check it out now - she said she will ring me tomorrow - but knowing her it will be sooner - i hope its sooner anyway - i wanna chat with her and re-assure her! but than i also dont want to bother her so when she is ready to chat she will ring!
a girl friend of mine had a breech bub and after some acupuncture sessions bub turned around. might be worth a try wish her good luck from us all xxx
will do Kimmy - thank you - i just texted her about the accupuncture and the spinning babies website!
will keep u all updated once i chat to her!
my first son was breech at 36 weeks and i had to have a c section, so if worse comes to worse a c section may need to happen but she will be fine
blayne - as much as i love my friend things are a bit of a competition to her (she's one of those ppl) and if she had to have a c-section it would be the end of her world cause i had a natural birth - ive tried telling her it dosent matter how bub comes out as long as its health but nope dosent work!
anyways she rung me last night and she is booked in to have a ECV next friday - so she has been told to be prepared to maybe have bub a little early!
so im off today to help her do some washing and set up nursery!
i have news!!!!
after i spent all day with my friend setting up her nursery (she had done nothing and has nothing) her waters broke at 0230 this morning - so she has gone in for a emergency ceaser!!!!
How exciting she will be a mummy soon - i cried when i got her call this morning - im excited - make u want to go thru it all over again! hehehe
Wow! Big news! Hope her and bub are both safe, healthy and happy. :)
Harmony...thats big news alright!
Wishing her all the very best, i hope everything goes well for her and her little bubby.
She had a baby girl this morning - 6pds 3oz by ceaser and bth mum and bub are doing great!
bub came out screaming (great set of lungs) and dosent need to go into special care!
No name for bub at this stage!!!!
Aww, that's great news! :) Wishing her and bub all the best.
Thank you Selina!
