bumbo seat- how old?

I was just wondering how long a bumbo seat will last? i.e what age or weight? I am just researching ahead of time for when i start ds on solids at 6 months. I always just used a rocker for dd when starting solids.

It seems like a great alternative to dragging in the high chair from the shed until ds is a lot older, and would bw great for playing etc.

I *think* they say up to 9 months, but my ds could throw himself out of one by the time he was five months old...

could he do that with the tray on??:doh:

Unfortunatley, yep, even with the tray on, active little critter that he is. It was kind of a half roll from a sitting position, but he would topple over the side, and sometimes the bumbo would topple with him... slightly dangerous!!

hmmm, maybe not such a good idea then?? I thought they would have quite a heavy base so that couldn't happen.

I think once bubs is strong enough, they become a bit of a hazard. I have a friend who used hers up to about 7 months before her dd could throw herself out, so I guess it depends on the baby?

My DD1 used it until she was 2 :redface: She never tried to throw herself out of it though.

My SIL bought one for her bub when he was about 3 months, and well, lets just say the novelty wore off quite quickly ;)
I think they'd be great if they were made a little heavier at the base, and if they had some sort of fabric over them. The ones I have seen are sort of rubbery and I think they're get a little hot and sticky in summer.

Both my girls still use the one we have when DS isnt in it!

They are 29 months and 18 months old

My girls used it up until 16 months oldish...maybe its a boy thing ???!!!!:p

yeh maybe it is a boy thing cos i have to agree with Lorirae - we had the exact same problem, even with the tray.. i have already past it on to a friend to use.

Just to add onto this thread...when do they first go into a bumbo? I had never heard of them until I heard the girls in BB group talking about them.

they can be used from 3 months, i guess as long as the bub has good neck control and stuff.

My DS used his for ages! I passed it on to my niece though and he still sits in it whenever we're at my sisters house. He never tried to get out of it or toppled it over.

Twopossums, I have just been looking on ebay at them as they are prob a bit cheaper than the shops and there are some great colour options available.
