Umm what to say what to say
Anna - I'm wondering why they wouldn't let the woman with the SLR take photos? I know they're capable of taking better photos than a regular digital point and shoot and that media etc use them. But regular every day people use them too, so it's a little unfair to not let them be used? I have one, and if I went I would have used it. If they told me not to they would have had a fight on their hands, it's unfair. Saw your photos on FB though looks like Jett enjoyed it the most! Poor Rip had to have a nap I see hehehe
Yeah I thought it was silly too CM. Ripley is like clockwork with naps and will sleep anywhere :lol:
Saram the expo is in Sydney at one of the racecourses. Its massive...3 halls worth!!! Overwhelming actually. When I went last year I wasn't interested in cloth at all. Oh how times change!

BG- I just got a mum's and bubs set form amber bebe, it came so fast!! The very next day!

So is this the same expo that comes to Brissie??? I was niave and unaware of the wonders of MCN's last time i went so didn't even notice any....hmm can't wait this time and will also be getting a ring sling i hope oh dear too much money will be spent im sure
Well i must say i am getting very proud of myself in my 'creation' of nappies....as i have a few covers/pockets i like but the absorbant bits i dont and vice versa so i have now started rearraning and creating my 'dream' nappies heehee.

some suggestions:
very baby aio (at the weewuns, aplix closures)
swaddlebees sized pockets (you can get their aio/pocket hybrids but they take longer to dry)
itti bitti dlish (minky) or classics (PUL) for daytime (low rise)
itti bitti boo for night=time fitted for young bub, day time fitted for older bub
PUL nappies slide under jeans pretty easily
i would not rule out pockets either. Once you have pre-stuffed the pocket nappies, they are just like putting an AIO/ai2 on your bub - just one item to go on.
for narrow crotch night nappies:

and yes, sewing your own pocket inserts is a good way to go.
When ordering, or considering ordering any product, just email the site to ask them to measure the crotch width of the item for you - compare that with what you know suits your child. that's the best way to avoid ending up with lots of fluffy mail that you have to send back or try to sell, due to it being too wide in the crotch for your child. You need to measure the width, at the NARROWEST part of the nappy (of the brand that suits your child the best). Once you know this, saves you heaps of money. i wasted heaps, ordering "blind", before i found out this simple thing (asking the measurement) could save me lots of grief (time and money).
in the beginning, because i had a chubby thighed bub, i never dreamt that crotch width was her thing. i had no clue there was such a thing as wide, medium, or narrow crotched nappies. but as soon as i bought a narrow crotched nappy by mistake, saw the difference in fit (no more camel toe!!), and a more experienced person told me, that the NARROW crotch nappy brand was what made all the difference, the lights went on for me. then i sold all our wide crotch brands, only bought narrow crotch brands from then on. it was smooth sailing from then on.
so skinny or chubbly, my child needed narrow crotch nappies, no matter which body shape she had at the time (and she had both at different stages). Lots of US MCN sites use the terms narrow and wide crotch, but on Australian sites, you just get some refs to "trim" nappies. and that means different things in different contexts. for some brands, they're referring to the rise (low as opposed to high), for some brands, they use the word "trim" to refer to the allover bulk of the nappy. and another context, i've forgotten now.

SMOZ - the Pregnancy, Child and baby expo go all around Australia every year. In each state, different stakeholders choose to take part (it costs money to hire space), so part of it, is who can afford to be represented at the expo, it's an expensive proposition - which is why i suspect you don't see one person WAHM operators there.
so it's not an identical expo all around Australia, when it comes to my state, i think we would be lucky to have five mcn stalls there (including two local IRL mcn shops). baby beehinds (local consultant), peapods, and one year Cute Tooshies had a stall.

Saram, i don't think my nerves would cope, being a nappy buyer/consultant! i get so nervous with the responsibility of helping my friend, and she's such a lovely person (not pushy, nice and relaxed). But i have felt antsy, trying to buy nappies for a little person, when i don't know how much she weighs. (her mum hasn't weighed her for two months, and she's started solids in that timeframe).
So glad i got the CGR nap... Marlene... I was so sad when i missed it then i saw few of my helpers didnt get it either i was so cranky i didnt get the similar one at the expo...
I got the amberbebe mum and bub set too but i ordered 2 larger custom sizes and gotthem same price $60... got them within few days.
Yes i am on a ban (cant remember who asked) yup DP doesnt change them so its all good... Plus i have resorted to offering sexual favours... PMSL... desperate times call for desperate measures... lol. I already paid him for letting me try for Maz's gorgeous ladybug set... LOL. He has agreed to let me buy a few but i havent won, which is why this time i out smarted him and asked for hyenas (helpers) to try to nab it... lol... Me addicted... Never... lol
BG- I really hope Gremlin decides to make an entrance shortly... rest up hun... I remember how long it felt like when i was waiting with my 2... Pity ur all stocked up would have been a great time killer buying fluff and waiting on fluffy mail... lol
Mis T had a shocker last night... went to bed at 8,30 woke at midnight yanking ather Maz NN she had outwet it and the cover... so i put on a pop-in with night booster and she woke 2 hours later soaked then at 4 and was soaked so put on a GK with insert and booster (bamboo) then up at 5.30 and wet right through... and she hasnt been drinking much extra... :dunno: What is a good NN for a HEAVEY wetter???
Crikey Jess - she must have been peeing all the extra liquid in her body out or something!!!!
I have found my Snoozys are awesome for DS - but he doesn't outpee a GK either if I have both inserts (insert and booster) plus microfibre.
Plus snoozy's are pretty trim - so if I am worried that he will wet through (ie, he's had a HEAP of water that day) I will quite often put a GK bamboo insert on the outside of the nappy for extra protection.

DH is just taking DS to the IL's for the morning, cos he's really really annoying.. :rolleyes: The worst thing about having IL's that don't ever call to catch up, or ever call to take DS for a few hours during the week - is having to listen to DS continuously ask to see "granma" and know that you are going to have to call to ask if you can come over because they won't friggin do it. They just don't get the fact that the only one hurting here is DS... *sigh*

Yer i'm not opposed to pockets and i do find it very theraputic sitting there and stuffing all my nappies on a night as i watch tv.....ahh i love this time....i get to go shopping withinn reason, it'll be my first fluffy shop so be ready for 20 questions!
when i first went cloth my friend that im starting the business with lent me all her newborn ones (hence why my little man is wearing pink nappies) and she had SOOO many that i have no reason or excuse to shope for any....but but but he is growing out of the newborn size (yes he is that small) and i don't have as many Small sized ones and only one NN so yayay i get to go shopping! That and DS isn't happy with the fact that he's wearing pink so has agreed i can buy some boyish ones! woop woop i am so very very very excited
Quick question- any thoughts about the difference between Bumgenius AIO or the pockets other that personal preference? Do AIOs take ages to dry? I am only starting out so don't have many MCNs (3) so can't afford huge drying time.
Are GK pockets OSFM or sized?

Katie - I find my Bumg's AIO's are the quickest drying AIO's that I own - but not as quick as pockets of course, the shells are almost dry when you take them out of the washing machine! :)
So crapped off - DH left with DS so I can have some "cleaning" time - and IL's misunderstood DH's call to them this morning, so he left, and about 5 minutes later - IL's pull into our driveway - and I'm still in my PJ's!!!!! Quickly got dressed and put my hair up and they came to the door, and I'm like - uh.. what are you guys doing here? And they're like, well we got a call to come here for smoko.. and I'm like.. uh NO.. Craig was bringing DS to see you guys so I could clean!! Grrrrrr...
*Sigh* So they are still outside (being extra critical about the state of our backyard yadda yadda yadda)

i find WC NN, sandmans and possum pouches KK the best will last 12 hours with a wool cover only.
I highly recommend contacting robyn at possum pouches, she is so lovely and more than willing to help you get the right nappy for your bub

Hrrmmmm, I think I've done a noobie mistake, my first two GKs I brought a bamboo insert and a micro insert and then with the last one I brought, I got a micro insert and bamboo booster, lol, I was wondering why they were so bulky and then the last one not as much.

Amanda - my preferred insert combo is the bamboo insert and microfibre. Then at night I chuck the booster in as well. But thats the only time I really tend to use the booster.

i put my lil monsta in a KK for the 1st time last night, LOVE them. hes on the smallest setting on the M so will last him awhile. im slowly changing my stash to fitteds. cant quite figure out what turned me off them in the first place (mebbe putting a NB in a BBH was a mistake?) now just gotta figure out how im gonna get rid of them.

I have one weird BBH booster which goes into the wash it's natural colour - but comes out brown like it's poop stained. I read my BBH care book which says I can spray some stain remover on it, so I do and wash again and it comes out perfect. But then after the next wash it's back to dark brown poop stained looking. What's going on?
Fluff - We miss you but obviously you've been busy with work so that's an acceptable absence. Are you having withdrawls from BB?
I have no recommendations for night naps sorry Jess. Hopefully my sandman doesn't take too long to arrive and I can give you my review on it. Michelle from SHP is so helpful, she's putting in a rush on my soaker so she can send them all together. Bought some dirt cheap NB lushies too (in the seconds/thirds section, but nothing wrong with them just the person that ordered them didn't like the aplix)
Does anyone want an extra 20 month old for the day? I'm sick with a cold and completely drained of energy. He's not being naughty, just annoying the hell out of me when I'd rather be just lying down or sleeping. To make it worse I have to try to keep him quiet as DF is sleeping off a night shift and has another one tonight. :rolleyes:

Jess - GNSTs are good, but DS can outwet a heavily boosted one on an average night. I don't know why, but it just doesn't hold up as well as I expected, especially with soooo many layers and snap-on bits of bamboo! Sandmans are great, though. And GF (without too much embroidery!).
CM - that staining thing has happened to a couple of our BumG microfibre inserts lately too. I can't think what's causing it since DS hasn't pooped in them, but not being able to hang them in the sun lately isn't helping matters. Bizarre!
BG - sleep, hun! Get as much sleep as you can! Treasure it!! Remember it well! Have some sleep for me, too, yeah??

DH has about 15 minutes left of 'rest time' before he promised to get started on his list - Yes he asked me for a chore list for the day - so we should have some nappies to fold tomorrow evening. He will be busy for most of the day though and then I doubt he will be up later than 9pm tonight. He hasn't had much sleep all week.
I am going to have to join the 'Amber Necklaces ROCK!!' Group. I didn't wear it yesterday, and I regretted it. Got it on today and nowhere near as sore as yesterday. Still need the drugs, but not aching as much while they are in my system.

KatieRabbit - I don't own any BumG's but my guess would be that with pockets you can tailor the absorbency to suit your child a bit better than an AIO. You choose how much boosting there is in the pocket. Did that help at all?
Ali - Your DH sounds like he's wearing himself out a bit, maybe it's a good thing as he's learning just how much goes on in the house that he never realised before now. I wish I were in your situation (although pain free thanks). Could you please PM me the details of the exact amber necklace you bought?
NaNa - I've got no idea with the boosters as yes mine hasn't been pooped on either. It's just the one also. I was purchased at the same time as all the rest of my boosters, goes in the wash with the rest, and it doesn't happen to any others. Weird!
Well I just finished doing some tie dye singlets again. They're hanging on the line drying now. How do I post photos on BB? Do I have an album of my own? How do I link to it without posting the big ugly link? Hmm so many questions, I know nothing :redface:
BG - do whatever you need to in order to keep yourself busy and amused, otherwise you'll go stir crazy! If that means more fluff, then so be it!

Thanks CM. But can you still use boosters in AIOs or is there generally no need to? I am thinking of an 18 month old heavy wetter?

Katie - from what i can tell, most AIO's allow you to add extra boosting - you just need to be careful you don't get leg gape from the boosting being too much for the nappy to handle...
i know i have bought an iishfly night nappy and it has SEVEN boosters with it!
i would be looking to try and find boosters that are nice and absorbant without being overly thick kwim?
NaNa - not much sleep happening here - though i'm about to head to bed again - ti's the most comfy place to sit while i'm doing my cross stitch. so much better than the seats out here! if i happen to feel sleepy, then so be it! i've nearly finished season 1 of CSI which i started watching a couple of days ago...

Back from the expo! A fair bit poorer! I got a green tea CT and a pink basix, and a great 1 nappy wet bag from NN. So pretty! And 3 pairs of baby legs for $30 from IB!
Also a new mei tai hip carrier called an Ellaroo. I tried it on with Em and she loved it. She hates being in the ergo!
So a good day but a little sad its been 6 years today since my brother died suddenly. So have been thinking of him lots. I miss my big bro.
DD can outwet her Maz NN but never through a cover... its very bizare to have 3 changes... and all the naps that were used were all ones i have had for a while now so abroebency should have been good... Oh well maybe cut the night drinks down... lol.
SOOO cant wait to get that CGR designs Nap...So glad DP is willing to accept sexual bribes... lol. he said i could buy as much fluff as i wanted if i keep being so nice to him... LOL.

has anyone tried Baby Safari pockets? they are narrow crotched, side snappers, that were completely off my radar. just heard one good reccy for them tonight, so wondered if anyone else had tried them. i find their website a bit confusing, but they might make great mcn, just not have a good website designer, who knows.
also Gadimals? i've emailed the US home site, to find out the crotch width IS narrow (yeh), they are considered a low rise nappy (like the itti bittis), and they are Side snap pockets, outer is MM fleece 300wt but it's a really furry fluffy one that looks like teddy bear fur. ANyone else tried them?

Lots of people go in and out of "love for the fitteds". i came to love them again too. Especially after the runny poo stage stopped, and i could actually put bilby in them , without a cover, last summer. So nice to be able to see the attractive outers of them, after covering them up for so long. they're great under longies too.
ALI - is the FIL who does housework, still with you? or has he gone home?

- with ANY style of nappy, if your child is outwetting it, that is a sign to add more absorbent material, or move up to a more absorbent nappy for them. Every nappy change, you make observations, and you customise the nappy to suit your baby, at that time, cos they change all the time (teething, growing, etc).
You CAN boost an AIO, but not to the same extent you can boost a fitted nappy, or a pocket nappy.
with fitted nappies, you can boost INSIDE the nappy, and OUTSIDE the nappy (but inside the cover).
with AIO's, you can boost INSIDE the nappy, but not so much that you cause leg gape. something you can only try and see. if you see leg gape, undo nappy and take some boosting out.
with pockets, you can add more absorbent material to the pocket cavity. Depending on the size of the pocket cavity, some allow enough room to comfortably have TWO trifolds sitting there comfortably.
If you want to boost a nappy a fair bit - put a trifold in (rectangle of absorbent material, folded into three). So say it's bamboo, two layers thick, by the time you fold it into three, you have added SIX layers of babmoo there.
if you want to boost a nappy just a little, put a booster in (skinny pad shape).
so if that's two layers of bamboo, you have added TWO layers of babmoo there.
Trifold / prefold / insert / pocket stuffer - all these words are interchangeable in the mcn world. so don't worry, it's all pretty much the same thing.
Often two layers of bamboo, in a rectangle (or square for nb size), sewn together.
whereas the boosters, are either short and skinny, or long and skinny (you fold that in half, or to suit. like more to the front, for the front wetters.)
wotbb: imse vimse cloth trainer (or knickers with "insurance" as we think of them, as).
KatieRabbit - ditto to what BG said. You can add boosters to any nappy provided they fit inside without causing leg gape. I just find that easier to do with a pocket that's all.
Shell - I understand the SAHM going broke thing. I don't buy much fluff, but I still shop a lot :redface: DF used to tell me off about it, but now I think he's just accepted it. Hmm being a SAHM also made me fat lol damn those cupboards and fridge being so close all the time.
Fluff - is there anyone at work you can brag to about fluff all day long? Maybe that would help :) I only have one IRL fluff friend so BB is so important to me lol

Katie Rabbit - we have 2 BG AIO and 2 pockets and have never had to boost the AIO (my DD is now 26mth and TT)
CM - that is strange, is the stain still there when it dries or only when wet? I have taken a toothbrush to a few bamboo nappies to get the poop out of the fibres - ahhh when MCN were new and I actually cared about stains :ROFL:
Didn't get to go to Wiggles today as I was sick but DH took her and apparently had a fantastic time and stayed dry for the entire day - so proud of her. *sob sob* my little girl is gorwing up so quickly. Have an awesome stash of barely used nappies (sparkly iishfly, CK, starbunz puppy) to get rid of in a couple of weeks - once I have stopped stroking them :-) will let you know when I am ready to let go.

hi again everyone..been MIA from here for a while!
well I have to say after this weekend myself and DH are extra pleased with our decision to go cloth (using bamboo/hemp prefolds I made with PUL covers). We stayed at a motel last night, weren't enough dry prefolds to take with us so we decided to use some of the sposies ppl gave us atthe baby shower...turns out they were safeway brand...within a few hours poor lil Susie had a nappy rash :( we were SOOO happy to get home and put some cloth on her bum! DH found them harded to use than the prefold/cover combination anyway lol! so am gonna buy some more prefolds (I have fabric to make more but i dont have time atm..will save that for when I make fitteds/pockets when she gets a bit older!). Does anyone have a recommendation for any of the stores online with bamboo prefolds??
also, here's a pic of bunny in her prefold a few weeks ago :D
I have a question about covers too...with fluffy covers do they work like pul covers in that they dont get wet on the outside so don't wet the clothes??? I assume with wool covers u dont put clothes over them???
Saram - The booster is stained looking both wet and dry. But wasn't before it went into the wash. I'll be looking out to see when you're ready to let go of the stash :)
