At the moment Zachery is very sick. He has a nasty cold. Bad cough, snotty nose, but the worst bit is mucous poos in every nappy. His poor little butt and penis is red raw and weeping and bleeding. Ive tried, Bepanthan with a numbing agent, Sudocream, Earth Mum natural nappy cream, sorbolne cream....but nothing is helping.
What can i do to help him?
He screams in bad all the time when i have to change him and its breaking my heart.
Oh, poor little mite.
I've had that happen once and the only thing that helped was fresh air. I know it's hard in this weather but is that any way he can have nappy free time?
If it is bleeding and weeping I'd be inclined to take him to the Doctors tomorrow just to make sure it isn't getting infected.

We just had nasty nappy rash here, and I bathed it with PineTar solution (instead of nappy wipes) and using a pharmacy blend of zinc, olive oil and other goodness for 4 days and it cleared up perfectly.
Hope it gets better.
Oh, and if his penis is growing, and he's not circumsized, then expect a bit of redness as the skin expands around him, and starts pushing back.
daktozin cream has the highest amount of zinc I think, thats the one Id be going for if you want to try a cream. You get it at the chemist.
If its not improving either ask the pharmacist or maybe a trip to the GP.
That has been an absolute heaven sent in this house! When dd has had bad nappy rash from teething etc even when she got thrush from anti biotics, it was the only thing that worked! I don't bother with bepanthen or sudocreme etc anymore because daktozin is the only thing that actually helps it, and I mean like within 1 nappy change sometimes, it's fantastic! Hope your little one is feeling better soon. It's horrible when they have done a poo and you really need to wipe it clean and all they do is howl.:

Oh hun I totally understand! Brendans bum has only just gotten better... he's been sick for a week now.
I use curash on Brendan, frequent nappy changes (every 1-2 hours) and some nappy free time.... which isn't the easiest especially if little Zachery is pooping as often as Brendan is :(

apply the sudocream heavily to a bit of bandage.. even a piece of a good quality baby wipe works. Stick it to babys weeping red bits, zinc side down onto skin. put nappy back on. This is what we do for our #2 and it tends to clear up nicely overnight.. just keep doing the same at each nappy change.
i think mucous in poo is not normal and might be worth seeing the dr about. Hope he is all well soon!
Well ive got the paw paw cream on THICK tonight....raced to Woolies to get it....chemists were closed, but will go tomorrow.
He ad nappy off for around 2 hours before a shower tonight....yeah it was messy but he needed it
Logan gets like that when he is sick also.. i give him a bath after every 'dirty' nappy just so that his bum and penis are actually clean then i just pat dry and cake on the ichthammol cream that i got from a chemist BEST NAPPY CREAM i have ever bought...

jack gets that we use the boobie cream lansonin you know the stuff for cracked nipples not cheap but you only need a little and Jack is usually nearly healed within 24hrs, he had massive blisters from his burns

Well it looks much better (still very red though). Paw Paw helped HEAPS!
Aloe vera- you use the flesh straight off the plant, just cut off skin.

Ok, we often go through the red raw bleeding bum (have it again at the moment), with DD, when she gets sick & if when DD needed to have eye drops that we now know she was allergic to.
These are the things i do:
1) no nappy wipes - ever - these are really bad for them. I wash her bum under the sink with warm water.. no soap - we use soap free wash also. It is very annoying when out - so i will use soft wet face washers, but again, never any nappy wipes.
2) my dermo told me at the childrens the best barrier cream they use is zinc cream with 10% olive (not castor) oil. You can get this made up at a pharmacy, but i think you need a prescription. We need some more, and as MIL is a pharmacist (but overseas) at the moment, i'm going to find out how to do it myself. Just need to find where I can get straight zinc paste from. Anyway, the jar we use is utterly fantastic!!!
3) unfortunatly you might need to eliminate whether it is fungal in nature, so use an anti fungal cream on the area.. We also tried a very very weak cortisone... neither of them did help (you can use them both rubbed in together), so i stopped, but at least that helped eliminate things.
4) some people say different nappies can make it worse.. just something to keep in mind.
5) i didn't find the second skin to be that great... for us they were coming 1/2 off every nappy change, so besides being expensive, we had to change them over as there was poo getting underneath it, and when we peeled it off her it hurt.
5) my paed told me a great thing to use is mouth ulcer cream with it is open and bleeding, as that cream is use to attaching to a mucous membrane, so cna do its stuff. Haven't had an opportunity to try it yet (only very red at this stage)...
Also, we are at the stage were she is screaming in agony every time she poos and can't sit down as the poo touches against her skin (at least i know when she has gone), so i'm going to look into something for pain relief in that area,.. like a partial numbing cream that is safe to use.. will let you know how i go.
I was going to say paw paw cream too. I am a new user to it but I am more then impressed with it.. Once it heals keep applying the PP cream or use petroleum (vaseline) jelly as a barrier..
Oh the poor little man. Oskar got a really bad bum like that from antibiotics, my doc said dermaid - just the .05% and I put it on after his bath, next day was still red but it was DRY not all weepy anymore. So when it happens now I just pop some of that on after his bath and sometimes in the morning if it's really bad.

Paw Paw is workig so far....of course used nearly half the jar in 24 hours...but its a start....not cheap at $11 a pot of it though!
