So it might be too early for "normal" people, but there are a few Christmas obssessed BB members out there that I know of...... So if you looooove Christmas as much as we do, come on in & have a chat about your plans, decorations, traditions & anything else to do with Christmas you can think of!!

Sarah im not one of those normal people at all!! ive been thinking about christmas for a while lol! ;)
so far, all i've done is start an xmas list.. and stuck it to the inside of one of the kitchen cupboards with heaps of present ideas! oh, and had a browse in the toy sale catalogues!
Actually, i have also just adjusted my Chrisco order- this year i am getting ONLY vouchers. i will have more than enough to cover xmas this year, so im happy with myself there (we cannot save money in any way shape or form, so Chrisco works well for us!)
this year im looking forward to not worrying about money, and focussing more on what xmas is really about! Also i think DD1 will really understand whats happening this year, so that will make it even more special!

Im way excited bout Chrissy this year - its our 2nd with Miss B but the 1st one she was only 8wks old so this one she will be almost 14mths - so she will enjoy it heaps more and so will we actually getting to see her open her pressies!
Although both DH and i are shift workers, so i worry that she will never have a "proper" Christmas that is on the acutal day IFYKWIM! instead her christmas will be over 2 days at bth my parents and than the Inlaws on different days -so not on the 25th!!!!
I've started thinking about it too. I want to have our first christmas with all the family here.
Lots of chaos & organization, but I'm excited! Hoping my bro & SIL can come over from Perth.
Also thinking about inviting DH's brother & sister we've only met once, 8 years ago.
I'm a little excited this year as we may or may not have a new addition to the family. Bubs is due 01/01/2010 so it will be a busy but very special time for us. Though it does mean we have had to can the trip to the coast we had planned with my family from SA & will be spending it just the 3 of us.....but that's ok. I always go all out with the deco's, food etc & I'm think Charlie will understand it this year so that will be fun!!!

christmas last year seemed like such a non event for me, which was sad as its my favourite time of year! but what with jacob being born and having a new baby etc, it just all got away from me and was gone in a blink of an eye.
I have a tradition of always making heaps of yummy stuff for my family and friends, im a bit famous for my gingerbread:lol:
I love baking, I will usually make the affore mentioned gingerbread and truffles and those mini puddings etc, last year I only got around to making the gingerbread and i never even iced them! everyone kept telling me I wouldnt be able to do it with a new baby, so it was like I was trying to prove a point to myself that I COULD still do it, but I just had to let it go at midnight christmas eve, when I had taken the last batch out the oven.
mum and I used to get silly on champagne and decorate their xmas tree on christmas eve, with lots of mad dancing around the lounge room to "band of gold" and various abba tunes , good times, but since I have moved an hours drive away sadly we havent been able to do it for the last 2 years.
so my big project this year is going to be trying to make a gingerbread house! hopefully im not being too ambitious! I want to make it all from scratch and not do the kit thing....hmm....we will see how that goes!!
I am so excited as we are staying home :dance: sound sweird but we haven't spent xmas here since 2003 I think ... even if Jase is on call I get to decorate and put up the tree cause we will be here cook everything :)
oh and my baby will be here :pray: ABW .....
I LOVE Christmas; last year we werent going to do any lights on the house but DP saw my dads (Dad lives down the road from us; visible from our house) and was like "Nah we can beat that" so went crazy hehe. Was so funny as i had been saying the whole month lets do lights; then the second he got his competitive streak it was on lol. Looked good, DSD loved it.
My step brother was living with us and has recently moved out so ive not put any furniture in his room ive started stacking it with presents hehe. Yep started already!!
Rach i know what you mean about staying home, its relaxing to think about!! We did that last year.
So many ladies expecting bubs around chrissy!! How magical! So jealous hehe.

DD will be almost 10 months at Christmas (OMG!). Was thinking of getting some presents in the sales soon. But I don't know what to get a 10 month old, I've never had one! LOL. If anyone has any suggestions...

I am a Christmas FREAK!
I "baggsed" Christmas this year so I will be having 15 adults and 5 kids (4 under 4) at our place for the day. I am already planning the menu because it is either going to be stinking hot (in which case I revert to my make-ahead salad based extravaganza) or tepid (in which case I will do the roast pork/turkey/whatever menu).
Starrysky DH and I made a gingerbread house last year - the homemade ones are so much better than the kits. If you google GB houses you will find entire websites devoted to them - just don't get carried away! Some people make GB castles!!
Flynn will be 3 and a half so REALLY into the whole Santa and presents thing (I have been coaching him all year - every month or so I read him a Chrissy book and he knows the words to "Aussie Jingle Bells" off by heart. Ollie will be just two so the main thing will be keeping him away from the tree!
As for the tree I made the HUGE mistake when I was pg of buying a whole heap of "heirloom" glass ornaments. I had this wierd notion that having "good" ornaments" was a great idea once kids came along. HOW WRONG I WAS LOL!! My advice for the Chrissy-obsessed is wait til your kids are older before lashing out on glass ornaments LOL!

also, just a hint, 2 years ago I did xmas here, champagne breakfast, lunch, dinner and boxing day lunch! I swore I will never, ever, do that again!
but, I found the flylady holiday organiser (free download) was really helpfull with getting everything sorted, I dont think I couldve coped without it!

OMG I thought I was the only one that was getting prepared so early. I have already done up a layby....One at Myer with toys for all the kids!! We will have 5 under 3, yes you read correctly 5 under on the day. I was thinking about putting my hand up for xmas late lunch/early dinner here at our place but that means like a hell of a load of people here. And with a 2 month old, might be a bit hard.
What do you get a 2 month old for xmas?? What about a 1 month old for xmas cause my SIL is due a month after me this year!! I should know this cause DS was 2 months old at xmas but we just bought him clothes cause he was in size 0 by that time and I had nothing cause I didn't expect to have such a big baby!! Lol.
same here I have no idea what to get the baby :lol: he/she will be about 10 weeks ....
Maybe get (im not sure of the correct term) one of those mats that bubs can lie on and play with the toys above their head...unless you already have one lol
Christmas this year is at our house (we cycle through us, my bro and my olds) so will be fun. i'm kinda the Christmas freak in our family - well, mum is too - but we have more room to set stuff up! it's going to be awesome and full on - E will be about 7 months old so not quite old enough to enjoy it for what it is, but i'm sure she'll love all the colors and things
Lunch will be a bit of everything. even in hot weather we do roasts - we just set up the bbq to roast it all! we all put in or provide something towards lunch so no one ends up spending a small fortune on food and things
present wise - this year is the first in a loooooong time that i haven't had half (or more) of the Christmas present shopping done. i kinda know what i want to get my bro's kids (just have to find it at a reasonable price) - as for E - i don't know - i'm kinda waiting for mum to work out what crap she is getting (she goes way overboard) and then we'll find her something spesh from us

we my family alwasy do the whole traditional xmas roasts, cold meats, hot vegies etc, hot pudding custard even in 40c + heat :lol: jase family do stuff all :( so am glad it will be the 4 of us I will do a roast turkey all the trimmings etc
Another Christmas freak here :D
I started shopping for this Christmas last Boxing Day (saw a great toy box drastically marked down) :lol: I have always picked up stuff during the year when I see it on sale but now with DD it is even crazier. I already have most (if not all) of her Santa shopping done as well as some presents for extended family. I hate how crowded and crazy the shops get just before Christmas, it ruins my Christmas buzz, so I would rather start early and not have to stress.
I think this year it is Christmas eve at the IL's, Christmas Day with just our little family and then Christmas with my family on Boxing Day.
For most of the female members of my family (that are old enough) im putting together a "pamper pack" or "make up bag" full of stuff from Avon; i can buy bit by bit and there are some great kids stuff in there too. Then its just the boys i have to look after!
my IL's dont do xmas for adults so just need to buy nephew on that side something and then my mum, sister, BIL and 3 nephews and 1 neice we try to keep the cost of gifts to a small amount as well I have 5 to buy for my sister and SIL only have one (duh 2 this year) to buy for :) usually no more than $30 a kid I tend to buy lots of little things thru out the year clothes, little nick knack things
Ooh,I was just thinking over the weekend I should get the chrissy shopping cranking while all the sales are on.
My mum and her sisters usually take it in turns in hosting christmas at there house each year, i managed to con mum to have it this year (besides she hasn't had it in ages) because I'll be almost ready to pop and it'll be nice to spend the day floating around in their pool. Hehe. Looking forward to spending chrissy day with my bump :)
Rach, I tried to con DF's fam into just buying just for kids last year but it's a no go *sigh* he has such a huge family too, it almost send us broke!
I think chrissy should be about the kids getting all revved up and excited about their gifts, and about chilling out for the adults!
I already have a playmat for bubs.
Rach - I looked at that in Myer yesterday and thought it was pretty cool but I want to see one set up. Is it as good as it looks on the box?? That was in the maybe pile for bubs for xmas!! Lol
Amelia the lamaze mat I am guessing it looks cool and best of all no batteries it relies on bub to move it round lots of fun crinkly things and a few tags etc, if ya get it dont freak if the mirror comes off I did I was liek its broke but the mirror can be shifted to anywhere on the mat :)
Teagz I hate not buying for IL's we have had xmas with them twice once before the kids and it was jjuts liek a normal day no pressie etc and normal food no big huge table laden with enough food for a army :( I hate it
Easter we do just kids but Christmas is everyone; i have so many people to buy for hence the reason i started so early this year, i hated being broke and frantic last year lol

Christmas is up in the air, as its usually my gf and us, her and her partner are from the US so we celebrate xmas on xmas eve and then sunday if family is here its a big thing at our place but this year will probably be low key with lots of local visitors and lots of alcamahol and coffee table dancing ;)

i wish i was as inspired to cook as you are. have to pull my finger out for miss E's baptism - but i'll more than likely defer to daddy for the sweet stuff...
I am SOOOOO looking forward to Christmas this year as it will be the first one we will have with a baby.
I have told DH in no uncertain terms THIS year we are going to go to the Tree farm and get the biggest damn tree we can find. I will also buy a Chrissy tree cake mould and make a mud cake tree AND we will put all the house lights up around the veranda again :dance:

We need to invest in some more sets of lights; and a bigger ladder this year. Last year we had no lights on the roof as we were all to scared to get up there hehe; its steeper (sp?) than it looks!!! The only way we could get up was to balance beam across the fence (flat top fence, only for like 2 metres) then try climb up, the roof came up to my hips when standing on the fence. I kept getting up to the getting on the roof part and chickening out. This year there will be a ladder involved and no balance beaming hehe
I'm excited about putting our train under the tree this year :) I bought it last year, but we had just had the floor boards done so was paranoid about them getting scratched so we didn't put the tack down, this year not so much LOL!!
the trains are great fun sarah! i love mine - just wish it derailed at the front of the tree - the back sucks - so hard to get at!
oh oh I just remembered my train it goes around the tree hooks to the trunk I can use it this year :dance:

grrr i so want a train for under the tree but DH keeps saying wait!! This year would be no point as DS into everything he shouldnt be so i think tree will be in a playpen so wouldnt be able to see anyway!!
this year e wont be into much - next year we'll use baby gates to keep her out of the room but still be able to see it.

Ooooh I can't wait to put our train up too, we got it on sale last year but it looked so dodgy as we had a very, very small tee.....just looked weird. We've always had a small optic fibre tree, but this year we are getting a BIG one with lots of decs & putting the train under it. Charlie loves it, he pulls the box out from under the spare bed any chance he gets!
My DF refuses to discuss christmas plans as he says it is too early. Id love to have christmas lunch at our place this year as I know I have it off (Im a nurse so often have to work christmas). My family normally make plans early and whave not had christams lunch with df parents yet :redface: (its been 5 years) and they live a 3min walk from us. If his parents want to do lunch this year I think I will have to agree, although his mums not much of a cook they have a sign in the kitchen that says 'dinners ready when the smoke alarm sounds' lol.
I have started a list of pressie ideas because family ask for ideas and I have no idea, Im also hoping having a list will stop me going overboard!
For those with bubs under 1 I found buying toys that might not be age appropriate at christamas was good becuase every few months I'd get a new toy out the cupboard. I also love to get kids books, I am now buying kids a $5 book instead of a card for birthdays.
My poor dd's ia not going to be getting too much in the way of toys this year as we have way to many as it is, and mum keeps telling me to save the money for when they are older and ask for something. We will see if I can restrain myself.
it sucks this yr we r ment to have chrissy wit the inlaws and then boxing day will be at my place wit my fam. jayda was only about 6months last yr so she didnt knwo wat was goign on and she will this yr and i am so annoyed that chrissy day for us is wit people that r like who cares its no big deal
