Hi just after some more ideas on activities I can do with Georgia, for fun and for learning, would like to hear what other do or did do.

its hard isn't it to come up with new and exciting things to entertain them!! we do lots of singing, reading, lots of time in the garden looking around and talking about whats going on. an old magazine or junk mail is good for ripping out pages.. um... we explore differant rooms in the house, jolly jumper, food is a good game i cut up lots of different shapes and texture things for him to play with/eat (like bls) ... we also have a dog and she is the best toy ever!
i can't even think of what else i do with my ds, isn't that terrible!
Yeah I am finding it really hard at the moment, we read and sing and muck around tickling and stuff, walk outside sometimes but its so cold and windy at the moment, she spends a lot of time on the floor, she is good at keeping herself amused, she does not crawl yet but pulls herself along on her belly. I feel guilty though that I should be doing more but I am kind of lost as to what to do.
When is a good time to give finger food - Georgia is eating solids but just puree, she can sit up by herself in the high chair. I know that would keep her amused for hours sucking and chewing on something but not sure if its ok to give her something??
Thanks for your help
u soooo gotta do finger painting - Miss B LOVED it and still does!
hj tell me more!!!!!!
i set Miss B up in her highchair, and i have these paint sponge pad things that u buy from an art and craft place and i put her hand in it and she does hand prints etc on the paper
Than when she got a little bit older i would put paint blobs on the paper and let her put her hands and fingers thru it! she loves it - makes a mess but is soooo much fun!
Sounds to me like Georgia would be fine with finger food now also - i was very weary of it when i started Bianca and i got one of those feeding mesh things, they hold them themselves and u put the fruit or whatever in it and they suck it out thru the mesh - i thought they were fantastic! no choking!
you can start the finger food from 6 months, just be carful and keep an eye on her, you can do steamed sticks of vegies, cruskits, fruit (not apple) my ds loved cucumber.. the possibilities are endless.
Hj i was looking at those mesh things the other day may have to get myself one I think.
Did Miss B try to eat the paint. I have a recipe for finger paint made from corn flour sugar, water and food colouring - would this be ok - sorry if I sound dumb asking these questions.
It is non toxic paint so if she did try and eat it i guess it wouldnt of been soo bad - but no she didnt try and if she looked like her hands were going to head to her mouth i just moved them away!
U dont sound dumb for asking questions so ask away! better to be safe than sorry i say!
and that paint sounds like a good idea, can i have the recipe??? i'd look at it this way its not as if they are going to eat a whole heap of it, so i think it would be fine! and u sit with them and supervise anyway so u can stop those little hands from going to the mouth!
Just make sure u have everything near by when u set up to do it - like have a bowl with warm water and a washer to clean those hands as soon as the paintings are done etc....
And be prepared for a bit of mess!
oh another good activity is bubble blowing - blow some bubbles outside with Georgia - she will love it!!!
Finger Paint Recipe
1/2 cup cornflour
2 tbls white sugar
2 cups cold water
food colouring
Combining all the ingredients in a saucepan
stir constantly over a low to medium heat until the mixture boils and thickens, then allow to cool
pour into little containers and add a variety of edible food colouring
excellent! thankyou!
u dont have one for edible playdough by anychance? hehehe
yep will post it now :)
2 cups plain flour
1 cup salt
2 tbls oil
a little water
food colouring
mix flour and salt together in a mixing bowl, add the oil and a little water, knead to form a soft dough
too watery - add more flour
too dry - add more water
store in air tight container or plastic bag
I dont see anything harmful if they ate it.
just wanted to bump this up so it appears in new posts for some more replies thanks
There's a good sticky in the main Baby and Toddler section that has lots of rhymes and songs to sing - many with actions - DD is just over 6 months and we do lots of singing and action games now, she loves them - particularly eensy weensy spider!
Another thing I would suggest that works well - age old and tested - is kitchen equipment. Wooden spoons, plastic containers, saucepans, plastic spoons etc. I even wash out and hold on to old icecream containers, plastic bottles etc. I let DD play with these, teach her how to bang, how to pick up different bigger shaped items, help her put little containers inside bigger ones etc. I'll often sit her in a washing basket so she can have heaps of things to choose from in the washing basket with her. Just make sure she can't tip the basket she's sitting in backwards.
Thanks for the other ideas in here - I'm finding them really helpful too!
