Is it bad if I eat too many :redface: :redface: Or should I say is it possible to eat too many...
Is there a minimum I should eat and a max I should eat??
The first batch I made lasted only 3 days :redface:

Oh another question... and this one probably seems a bit silly... but anyone can eat these right?
My DP won't eat them cos I told him they were to help with my milk supply...
what is your recipe?
It's one that was given to me on here...

Housepoet's Famous Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies
Serves: 6 dozen cookies
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
* 1 cup butter or marg
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons water
* 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal (can be found at any local health food store)
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
* 1 cup or more chocolate chips
* 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast* (be generous) (IT MUST BE BREWERS YEAST, NO SUBSTITUTIONS)
Directions:
* Preheat oven at 375 degrees F.
* Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes.
* Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended.
* Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips.
* Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment or silpat. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.
* Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies.
Anyone can eat them :) They're yummy huh?
I wouldn't think you can overdose... its all natural.. I'm sure I ate a whole batch in a few days too. I think DH had a few, but I probably didn't tell him too much about it ;)
Way too yummy! I just realised my first batch didn't even make 3 days... I made them while doing dinner on the 14th :redface:
This works so well!! I was able to relactate using this. The secret ingredient to these is really the brewers yeast and the flaxseed (linseed) meal (as well as the extra calories)... so you can really turn anything into milk-producing foods. I made a choccy cake but hubby and I ate it all in one and a half days!! So I had to make something a little more healthy like low fat yoghurt muffins. Seriously though if you end up making more milk and you're able to feed your baby more as long as you don't go overboard like I did with the cake you'll probably burn it off anyway through breastfeeding. The midwife at hospital told me lots of protein will help your milk supply so if ever it's a bit low I have bacon and eggs - always picks it up for me. I do find my milk is affected if I don't eat enough or I have too much sugary foods and not enough fattening/proteiny foods.
Oh and I got sick of hubby eating all my milk-making foods so I told him it'd make him make milk if he ate it. I knew it wouldn't but at least whatever I cooked would last a little bit longer!!
Hi ladies,
so glad i found this thread, however, i was just wondering, where you buy "actual" brewers yeast from? - thanks :)
From the home brew(as in beer) section in Woolworths/safeway Coles ect.
Lauren, too funny!
No problem! If it wasn't for my mum I would have been stuck too.
That recipe sounds yum!! Would it be okay to use these cookies as part of a healthier eating/exercise plan? I've promised myself and DH that I would lose 2 dress sizes by Christmas (shouldn't be hard to do as it's all baby weight, I *stacked* it on while pg), but so far nothing seems to be shifting the pounds, and I'm scared to hit the dieting/treadmill even harder for fear of losing my milk. I'm so disappointed because everyone told me BFing would make me drop kilos like I wouldn't believe but I have yet to see it!
Just have to add my two bobs worth...I made these cookies for the first time just the other day, and they're FANTASTIC! thanks to housepoet for donating the recipe!
Hi ladies,
I swore by these when I was having supply issues with a hungry bubba about 18 months ago!
The cookies are calorie laden unfortunately but in the short term i took the view i needed to do what i had to do to get the milk flowing!
I dropped the choc chips and popped in dried fruit like apricots and they were nice enough.
I found another way to limit my intake was to divide the mixture into say 3 or 4 rolls, freeze a couple of rolls of raw dough rolled up in plastic and only bake half of the mixture.
They still had the same effect defrosted and baked as baked fresh. I also had some in reserve for short notice then too.
Also someone ask where do you get brewers yeast - I found my local supermarkets did not stock it however my local health food store did. Apparently much cheaper to buy from the health food store!
Good luck girls!
Cheerio Belinda.
Oh these sound great... and dangerous lol Just wanted to subscribe cos I might need the recipe soon :)
Ohhhh, I am subscribing too just in case. They sound delicious.
Glamourcide - I never lost weight when breast feeding my second DS. It bugged me because I didn't gain anything through my pregnancy that wasn't baby related, but put on weight whilst breast feeding him. I am keeping everything crossed that I don't get the same thing when Bumpty gets here.
These sounds yummo....I had no idea this sort of stuff could really increase supply that much...?!?! I'm about to start expressing again, so this might be another trick!
Thanks ladies...I love baking too (and eating.....;))
Definately worth the calories! I've gone from hardley anything to squirting as soon as my bra is off :lol:
Sally, so pleased you like them. I had to hide them from my DH too... And the girls are right, the secret is the oats, brewers yeast and the flaxseed. They are all good for your supply.
My sister used to eat porridge with flaxseed meal and brewers yeast daily to help with her supply.
It is especially hard having a premie (my sis had my niece at 34+4) and she struggled to breastfeed, for many reasons... I am so pleased for you that you have been able to make this work. :hug:
Thanks :D I'm so determined this time because it didn't work out with Brendan (I expressed for 5.5 months for him, but my supply was just never really there)
^ I had the same problem with DD1, I struggled to express for 6 weeks and then it just dried up on its own :( Wish I'd known about these cookies back then!! I'm going to gather ingredients this afternoon so I can bake some tonight and give them a go :)
Oh, and dont forget that flaxseed meal is also know as linseed meal... And you can usually find it in the fridge section of the local health food shop.
Now, by 'thick cut' oats, what does that mean? Can I just use 'traditional' rolled oats (ie not 'quick' oats?? Or are they some special kind of oats that I'd need to track down?
I could only find rolled oats and they did the job for me :D
Just made some using regular rolled oats - YUM!!
How long do they take to work, do you reckon? And how many do I need to eat?
There are so many here... I just want to nom nom nom :D
I dont know if it was coincidence or not, but I found within hours of eating some (about 6 :redface: ) I was so full!
Yup, agreed. 3 cookies and a couple of hours later, I've managed to completely saturate one breast pad (on my right side, it always makes sooo much milk, not sure why?!) and DD2 is sleeping soundly again after stuffing her face hahaha :)
These are a treat! I'm going to whip up another batch and give them to DH's friend's missus, she's 2 days overdue now and even if she doesn't intend on BFing, they're pretty tasty... and if she is going to BF, she won't have any issues for those tricky first few days!!! :D
Thats an awesome idea!
I made a batch of these yesterday and instead of adding the full amount of choc chips I added 1/2 and the other 1/2 was mixed diced dried fruit. They are still really yummy and I dont feel quite so bad eating them :lol:
They are awesome aren't they!! The recipe I use is ever so slightly different & adds in even more flaxseed. And as you can see at the bottom - only 2 points for weight watchers ;)
:
"LACTATION" COOKIES
preheat oven to 350
* 1 cup butter/margarine
* 1 cup white sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 2 large eggs
* 1 t vanilla
* 1 t salt
* 1 t baking soda
* 1 1/2 cups flour
* 1/2 cup wholemeal flour
* 2 T ground flax seed meal
* 2 T flax seed
* 4 T brewers yeast
* 3 cups oats
* 1 cup chocolate chips
Cream the butter and sugars. Add eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla.
Next mix the dry ingredients together EXCEPT the oats and chips, leave those out until the end. Add the dry ingredients into the wet ones a few spoonfuls at a time. Once it's all incorporated then mix in the oats and chips. If you'd like to add nuts, add them now. Drop by spoonfuls onto parchment lined cookie sheet.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for approximately 12 minutes.
WW POINTS value = 2 pts per cookie
I've been adding whole flaxseed to mine too.
I need more flour, so might pick up a bag of wholemeal flour as well.
Wow these sound amazing! i wish i had known about them before! i am just subscribing, i might be needing them soon enough!
Thanks girls :)
Another way to do these, is to cook them as a slice. Recipe stays the same, just push the mixture thinly(cookie thickness) into a tray and cook around 5-10mins longer depending on if you want soft or crunchy.
just subscribing too!
Oh, cool idea Sally :D
Thanks :D
It only came about because I was feeling lazy :lol:
hi there ladies.
Just wondering if these cookies would be ok to eat before bubs is born??
as my cousin's milk didn't come in with her first baby and baby lost nearly 20% of birth weight. She is now due to have no 2 anyday.
thanks for your help.
