When do you shower??
Ok everyone time to share. When do you have your shower?? For some reason I just can't fit in my shower. DD is 2 and DS is 6 weeks old. I used to shower whenever and DD would just play in the bathroom or in the lounge with her toys so I never missed my shower. Now DS sleeps in our room so I can't just shower any time as DD loves to try and look at DS in his bassinette nearly tipping it over and with DD running in and out of our room wakes DS up. I can't shower when DS is up because I can't leave the two of them alone for obvious reasons. If I'm lucky there arvo sleeps overlap and I can grab a super quick shower then but that is a rarity. I'm having to shower at night time after the kids are both asleep but I hate going to be with wet hair. It's so frustrating.
I am a massive fan of my shower so I'm missing this time majorily!!
Please help me out. When can I fit my shower in??
-
Wow Nurse Dan! That's tricky! Can I suggest a roll of gaffa tape and a wiggles DVD?
Tape them to the couch, chuck the DVD on and voila! you can shower to your hearts content!
;) Sorry, no real help from me!
-
I have one when DD2 is down for a sleep. DD1 I set up with food and/or tv while I quickly do it. She knows not to wake DD2 so thats no prob otherwise I wait til the evening but yeah wet hair at bed sucks. I don't wash my hair everyday anyways so that helps.
-
I currently only have DS but that makes life hard enough!!
I either shower in morning before he wakes up or as soon as he starts grizzling before he is properly awake.
Or
at night but I also hate going to bed with wet hair.
But i cant shower with DS in bathroom as he opens shower door and trys to climb in or just sits there and wants hit with water so he gets soaking wet and so does floor. I dont enjoy shower as constantly trying to close door etc.
-
This may not be a long term solution but I had the same problem when DS was born... I used to wait until he was asleep then get out the family photo albums and put DD in front of the door way where I could see her, this gave me enough time to have a super quick shower and I could see if she was going to get up ...if I needed to buy myself a few more seconds I would open the shower door and ask her to find me a picture of Nanny etc...
Another trick I do is have a bath with DD after dinner ,but only when my hair does not need washing;)
Good Luck it does get easier...

I shower at night. I used to be a morning shower person until I had two children ;)
Now its night all the way. Sometimes - as a luxury - I turn off all the lights and just chill. No noise. No screaming children. Just darkness, the water and me. Ahhhh. Heaven.
Plus in case the children do wake up - DH is here to tend to them. Sometimes, I take a 10 minute shower. I know. Amazing. Peace - for a whole 10 minutes - by MYSELF.
Its nearly time for my shower and I'm getting all excited about it now.. lol
-
O to shower whenever you like!!
I'm with you, I find it near impossible.
Every time I try to shower at night when the girls are asleep one of them is screaming when I get out  so now I only do that if DH is home. I hate going to bed with wet hair too so I wash my hair on a Saturday morning. Yes I generally only get to wash my hair ONCE A WEEK! Gross.
Sometimes I only manage a shower every couple/few days :hide:
What can you do?!
ETA - Mel I'm so jealous! DH is out tonight so I'll either have to stay up to have one when he gets home or try and squeeze one in before he goes to work in the morning!
-
Mostly wait 'till DH is home. Or I set DD up in her chair in the walk-in robe just after a feed when she is happy to play and chat to herself and I can see her from the shower. NO idea how I'm going to do it with 2 though! Good luck hun, I hope you get a shower some time this week!
-
If your bathroom has a door (ie not one of those open ensuites) can you take your DD in with you with some toys and shut the door so she can't get to DS? Then just make it super quick or take a monitor in with you so you can hear if he cries?
My DD is happy to watch Hi-5 or something while I quickly shower, but when she was younger and not able to be left like that, I often took her in the shower with me if I was desperate for one. She was always happy to play with bath toys at my feet. It's more work when you get out, but worth it if you really want a shower.
-
i would have dd in the bouncer in with me and let DS do his thing..
Now we struggle keeping them both out while showering so most mornings thay have showers to.. not a huge problem we just try and make sure they have had their breakfast first
-
At night time, about 8.30pm.... or sometimes if I can squeeze it in between DH getting home & dinner time, so about 5.30pm.
-
During Sesame St, most days... but even then I usually end up with company. Normally it's ok but if she is grumpy or slips over on the bathroom floor it makes for a very unsatisfactory shower. I have been known to strap her into her pram in front of the TV when I was absolutely desperate, and she didn't seem to mind. Maybe if the older one would tolerate that it would be an option?
-
Sometimes I get up early to shower... if I'm desperate. I shower twice on the weekends!! WOOT!
DD1 has been known to climb out windows and the fences while i've had showers or gone to the toilet, so I try to not do that with her at home. Its hard, sometimes you have to go to the toilet, but I run through the house and lock everything I can and try and get her to talk to me while I'm there.
-
Do you have a playpen? Put the bub the the playpen so he is safe. I shower at night. Sometimes I shower with DS and Dd. All three of us together.
-
I hear you! I miss my showers first thing in the morning, I 've got a 2 yo and 5 month so I its a battle. Depending on her mood I can sometimes have a shower with DD1 in the bathroom but if she is really cheeky its not going to happen so then I wait for her to nap or go without as I am so tired by the time I can find the time ( DH is working late at the moment so its tricky.)
As for going to the toilet I try and at least have her in the laundry but she is toilet training so she wants to know what I am up to anyway.
-
I would suggest you putting DS into a pram & bringing him into the bathroom with you (I have done this with my 10wk old DD).
We have a dvd & tv set up in our bedroom & we have a ensuite, so I close our bedroom door and put a dvd on for my 2 1/2 year old DS.
-
I shower at night, with Jazz. Or I have a bath with Jazz. She's never been a baby contented to sitting in her high chair or rocker while i shower so it's always been either I shower while Shel watches Jazz, or I shower with Jazz (when Shel is home).
-
whenever i can! usually when bub is asleep and hannah just playing in her room. sometimes i put chelsea in a bouncer or swing chair thingy in the bathroom with me. hannah usually hangs around playing with her when i do it that way.
-
i shower when DD2 is asleep, often i get up before both of them to shower if we need to leave the house early, otherwise i wait til DD2 is having her first sleep which is usually within 90 mins of her waking, DD1 watches tv
-
before DD2 arrived, me and DD1 would shower together after morning tea/ before lunch. now i shower alone once DD2 goes back to sleep after breakfast. i close the bedroom door to keep the cat away from her, and DD1 isnt interested in going in there anyways, so i guess that makes it easier!
-
I only have 1 and 1 on the way but at the moment i have a shower with DD in the morning, she is 10mths and sits in her bath chair on the floor and has a play.
On the days she doesn't have a shower with me i put her in her play centre in the lounge with the telly on or in the bathroom as she is now on the move can't just leave her out and about.
Is there any way DD will maybe sit in a highchair in the bathroom and play while your in the shower? then you can do it while DS is asleep with no worry about DD getting in to take a look?
Sorry if anyone else already suggested this
-
I currently shower in the morn either when DH is actually home he will stick around & watch DS whilst I have a nice long shower then dash to work when I'm done, but it helps that when he's office bound it's just up the road. Otherwise I wait til there is something good on tv that's got his attention, give him some toast & go for it. I leave the door wide open & its usually very quick & not at all enjoyable or he ends up in there with me but I don't mind.
I'm thinking with the next one I'll pop him in bouncer in bathroom with me like I did with DS1 when he was little. And once in a good sleep routine I prop try & get up earlier than both to shower.
I hate showers at night, but will do that to if I have to, or prob have a bath instead.
-
I usually shower when DD2 is asleep, but if she wont sleep & i need a shower i'll put the rocker in the bathroom and put her in that.
DD1 will usually play in her bedroom or in the bathroom while i shower.
-
Who thought having a shower would need so much organisation, LOL!!! It takes more organisation than an army manovuer!! Thank you all so much for sharing and all the suggestions. I think I might keep up the night showers for a while and see how I go.
I'm so excited that it is the weekend tomorrow. Two days of uninterrupted showers, whenever I want and for as long as I want, YAY!!!! Gotta love weekends.
-
I have been putting DD in her Highchair in front of play school at 9.30. I can see her from the shower as I leave the door open. It's better than her running in and out of the bathroom and trying to get in the shower with me and getting all wet!. She plays peek a boo with the shower curtain.
-
ya know, i havent even thought of that..
Im a naughty girl.. yes.. i have TWO showers everyday :hide: i KNOW its terrible, but i cant stand not showering when i get up and then before i go to bed..
I can seee im going to have to convert to only one a day when little miss arrives :(
small price to pay i guess
-
I'm a night showerer too now. 2 kids and one on the way. I only ever shower before I go to bed. If I wash my hair I blow dry it because there's no way I could sleep with wet hair.
I too am a fan of the lights out silent shower, just to get some peace! Or - GASP! - a candle! Remember those before kids came along? Heee!
-
I don't have this problem (yet ;)) but I shower with my DD pretty much every evening (I do not enjoy kneeling on cold tiles craning my back to hold her in the bath).
If you DS is awake and happy - could you shower and bring your DD in with you?
I only get to wash my hair in the day on the weekend, through the week when I wash it I go to bed with a cold wet head in a plait which means I have to wear my hair tied back or plaited for the rest of the week because I have super curly hair and if I don't dry it out it dries weird like in the style it 'set' in. Just don't think of these things before you have kids eh.
-
I had a night shower last night with the lights off like a few of you do. OMG!!! It was awesome. I even popped on some of my music, SHOCK HORROR!!!
IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!
-
That's so cool Dan, glad you enjoyed! Night showers with the lights off are pretty cool.
-
Just don't shave your legs ! :D
-
Can't do that because DH might get ideas.
-
-
DH doesn't leave for work until 8.00am so I have a shower before he leaves, and then another at night when DS is asleep.
-
Weekdays I usually shower right before bed because I can't do it while DD1 is awake, and have to wait for a break in cluster-feeding DD2 so she doesn't scream for 15 minutes while I'm showering. On weekends I might get lucky and have one mid-morning if DH is in a good mood or has taken DD1 out to do errands with him. I usually wash my hair once a week, and do it on the weekend so I don't go to bed with wet hair.
...To be honest, there are times I go up to 3 days without getting a shower because I just don't have the time and DH hates DD2's hysterical screaming if I leave the room. Thankfully I don't have to go out much so I'm the only person bothered by my stink lol.
