I bought the Avent one, it is excellent.
I seriously cannot remember LOL. When I need to drag it out again with the next baby i will let you know ;)

I used the Nurture 3 electric pump I bought from the ABA shop. It was excellent-especially because you can express from both sides at once :)
The Avent pump was fantastic and I will definitely use it again. We used the Medela for the electric pump which was pretty good also.
I found the Avent pump to be so easy and portable!

I have and use a breast pump that Noah took on the ark for his wife. LOL
My grandmother gave it to me. (hence the age) :oops:
It is called a Kaneson Expressing and feeding bottle. All in one.
It consists of two long cylinders. One fits inside the other.
It is the best thing. I Love it.
But my arms do get sore from pumping!!!!

My first aughter wouldnt attach after birht so I used the avent to feed her entirely for 10 weeks before finaly getting her on the breast!
Aidyn wasnt attaching to me as well, so I had to pump about 8 times a day... I ended up going through 2 different types of manual Pigeon pumps (the first one broke, and the second one just didnt work very well), then I brought the manual Medela pump, which was v.good, but by that time I was just sick of expressing as it took so much time, and my supply was drying up. Next time I know how worth it, it is to spend the money upfront on an electric pump!
I've got a Medela Mini-Electric. I absolutely HATE expressing (especially with an electric one......I feel like I am in a porn-movie.......all that vibrating and slurping!) However, this one does work really well for me.......I tried the Avent hand pump and it gave me a sore hand.
I have a pigeon brand one which is electric (can use batteries as well) this was all that was available to me at the time, but it served it's purpose really well!
i used the advent hand pump when i went back to work, it was excellent. i just had to pump it a few times until i got a let down and then just kept it open so the milk would flow. it took hardly any time to express it was fantazzo. i guess i will use that again this time if i need to although i will have to buy a new one - buggar!

I used an manual avent one and HATED it. Oversupply was never a problem with me and all that work for a small return.
I'm actually selling mine at my garage sale tomorrow, and I'm going electric next time !

I knew I was going to go back to work before I wanted to finish breastfeeding, so I spoke to my ex-bosses' wife (she's a lactation consultant) who recommended the Medela "double dairy!"
It's an electric pump with two attachments, one for each breast, which means you only express for half the time as you can do both breasts at once. Very handy for work.
It was quite expensive (about $250) and I had to order it in from Melbourne (I was living in Shepparton) and it took two weeks.
But it was DEFINITELY worth every cent.
I've now lent it to a friend who loves it too.
Hopefully when we decide to TTC again, I'll get it back!

i dont know the brand name of mine.. i got it in the Uk, its a battery operated one.. when I get it back off my sister in law I'll see what the brand is and if its here in australia, coz its quite a nice little pump

with the twins being premmie I had to express 4 ages b4 they could feed so I used a hired electric medela, then I went to an avent hand pump, which I loved. You could hardly feel it, the electric pump hurt after a while!!
I got an Avent one as it looked easier than the other pump on the shelf. I didn't want to worry about batteries and stuff. It was really good once the let down came I didn't have to pump at all.
I found the worste breastpump I have ever used is the pigeon electric. It was like sticking my boob in a vacuum cleaner. The suction was constant so it was very traumatic to the breast tissue. The best I found to be the Medela, however, I am really a hand expresser from way back.
I love my Avent Isis pump. I had a Caneson one with DD and it was dreadful. I found I could never get a let down with it and it was sooo slow and so painful.
With all the feeding problems I had with DS I decided I needed a new pump and a better one to boot. I bought the Avent and I haven't looked back.

and then was given the link to this thread. So looks like I should get an electric one, preferably a double one. I see 1-3 ok's on medela, nurture3 & pigeon. Hmm, maybe Medela is on the cards so far then... :-)
I have now been expressing 7 times a day for almost 61/2 months. My son can't breastfeed (tongue tie and prematurity/poor coordination are apparently the reasons).
I have two pumps both made by Medela. One manual pump (Medela Harmony) and one electric (Medela Pump-In-Style Advance) . I mostly use the electric pump and have found it to be fantastic. I can double pump so it's all over and done with in 10 mins. I mainly use the more compact manual one when I'm out places where I don't want to lug the electric one - as it fits neatly inside my handbag (sterilised and inside a ziplock bag of course).
The manual pump fitting can also be attached to the electric pump which is a bonus. Can thoroughly recommend both pumps.
what is price comparsion for Medala - comapred to Avent ?
is Medala a double pump or do you mean you use manual and electric at same time ?

I double pump with the electric pump. It's much more efficient this way.
Given how heavily I need to rely on pumping (as my son can't BF at all), I need a high quality pump.
I actually hired a hospital grade pump (called "Medela Symphony") for the first couple of months before buying the "Medela Pump in Style" one. The Medela Symphony cost $100 a month to hire from the ABA (but I have heard you may be able to get it more cheaply elsewhere). The "Pump In Style" is pretty expensive to buy (about $440 after discount from the ABA). It is supposedly one of the highest quality pumps you can buy and recommended for heavy/frequent users. In fact the "Pump in Style" is very similar to the "Symphony" in that it's got two phases one fast phase to encourage the let down reflex and then a slower phase for once the milk is flowing.
The Pump In Style is more compact than the Symphony - which has made it easier to cart with me when I'm out and about. It has a battery pack or can be plugged into the power socket. It's sold as part of a backpack set and includes all the expressing attachments, bottles and a fridge cooler bag plus brick. Although it's expensive I thought it was pretty good value for my needs. Probably not something I would have bought if I was only going to be using a pump occasionally.

i have the Avent one too - it's fantastic - easy to use, comfortable and attaches to all the other avent bottles. Highly recommend it :dance:

I just dragged it out of the box and checked it over for the next baby! I found it was excellent.
I used the medala electric one that the hospitala supplied when my first DS was born at 28 weeks. It was excellent, but after comming home, I used a cannon hand pump, and found it really tiring.
My second DS was born with a tongue tie, to the upper tip of his tongue, he could not even get his tongue to cover his gums preperly, but exclusively breastfed him for 16 months by using tommy tippie breastsheilds for the whole time. (the tommy tippie ones are super thin shields, without that thickening over the nipple area, so you get the stimulation needed. He could only attach using these, as he needed to be able to "slide" my nipple back using it, wheras he could not do this without them with his tongue tie. (he was 3 when they surgically repaired it finally)
With my third DS, I had all hell trouble feeding him, and he has shocking reflux, but bought the avent isis hand pump, and found it to be brilliant. It is so gently, andyou hardly have to do any work, so no more tiring our your hands from pumping. My best friend borrowed it for her little boy, and is returning it for this one, and is buying another for herself.
I used the Avent, which was great. My baby was in NICU for about 4 weeks and it was so handy expressing during the night. Spare parts can be bought from their website (if you wear them out like I did!!!)
Also good for letting dads have a go of feeding the baby.
I ended up buying the Ameda Purely yours from ABA - with discount about $280 and it works a treat for heavy duty use - 3-6 times a day.You can upmarket it with a cooler bag too.
It is a double pump or can use singlely too, electric adapter or can be used with batteries (I don't)
Replacement Parts can be purchased. I think it is a great pump.
I also have the Ameda Purely Yours! I exclusively pupmped...sometimes 8 times a day, and it was a Godsend! I got it new on ebay. The total cost including shipping was around $100 US dollars! Worth every penny!

I too am a fan of the Avent Isis. I have used it with both my boys and plan to use it this time round as well. I have also lent it to a friend. The parts are still in good working order but you can definately buy replacement parts if need be (sister in law had to replace part for hers, and got an improved version so was definately worth replacing). Really easy to express especially when 'let down' and loved how it attaches to all the bottles or has a freezer bag store option which I used often.
Enough rambling - love it love it love it.
