Hi girls,
I need someone to reccommend me a deodorant that really works. I have tried many so far and just find that they seem to work for a little while and then don't. I did try a crystal and that was awesome for about a month and after that didn't seem to do anything at all.
I would prefer a natural deodorant rather than an antiperspirant, but if an antiperspirant is the only thing that will work, then so be it. I'm just so over BO...

I use Rexona Hypo-allergenic. Other ones in the Rexona range and some other brands full stop cause me rashes. I have never noticed a problem with BO when using it, only if I am wearing a really tight t-shirt or something, so the armpits can't breathe that well then either.
I tried everything, crystal, no deo as i would told i needed to cleanse my body of the toxins, changing diet etc etc (i wasnt nice company at that stage - phewweee) and ended up using driclor... it is a really strong antipersperant. I use it once a week and then can use anything else i like for the rest of the week normally or if its hot i use it twice a week. Sometomes i can go more than a week without using it. I used it last night and am confidently using NO deo today.
Its probably really bad for me, but i figure that using it so infrequently its better than coating my pits more than once a day!!!
I use Mitchum unscented roll-on anti-perspirant & deodorant. It's the only on that hasn't 'stopped working' after a month or so. And as it's unscented, I wear perfume if I want to smell nice, so there's no scents/chemicals from the roll-on that are getting funky in my armpits.
I try to avoid the supermarket ones, although I can get away with the Crystal Stick in winter... i don't generally sweat much though. My favourite deodorant is the MiEssence Tahitian Dream one but looking at their site they may not stock it anymore :( Don't get their Ancient Spice one... it smells like salami... I might have to go for their Fragrance Free one.
I find that there are so many different types of sweating that there is no single answer for which is the best deo!
I haven't sweated much since being pg with DS and stopped using it then - I found that braving it without left me smelling no worse than when I religiously used deo ;)
Anyhow, I DID like using the Miessence one, as well as the Crystal, for what they were worth.
When I was dependant on deo, I used the Rexona one and it blocked out everything. But I prefer to generate pheromones these days and drink water to mitigate the 'smell' turning into a 'pong' :p
I use a teatree one from the supermarket...no aluminum etc its great for me ! Good luck x
I second Mitchem. I too have tried everything and nothing works as well as this one. You could also try lighty spraying or wiping your pits with white vinegar as it kills the bacteria living there. You do smell a bit vinegary at first but as soon as it dries the smell goes.
I have just bought Dove clinical (the new one advertised on TV) it was a bit expensive for a deodarant - $13.00 but so far I cant complain. Its has only been a week so I will let you know if its another cabbage one.
Arghh I find so many deos do not work for me! Only for the first few hours. The only one that really works is the lady speed stick orchard blossom!
It works really well! It does have a strong fragrence though, sort of an unusual one, like lollies?!

Boomba, the tea tree one sound interesting. Might have to give that a go, too.
Mayaness, I live in sunny Queensland which probably doesn't help with the perspiration. I never sweated as much as I have the last few years.Incidentally, since we moved up here. And I can't possibly drink anymore water.. I drink a minimum of 3-4 litres anyway... I'm not a fish!!!
Bathsheba, the MiEssence one sounds good. Will definitely order that next time I need some moisturiser etc. But will go unscented cause I don't want my dog mistaking me for a sausage.
Entreat,So true. I often wonder about the smell ****tail that we all turn ourselves into. Everything is scented these days. Our soap, shampoo, conditioner, moisturisers, deos, hair sprays, washing powders, etc. And all different, too. Although i do like yummyy smelling things, I don't need to smell like all those things...:

Kathryn, the Rexona range seems to be alright. Although I have not tried the hypoallergenic one.

Yeah i would say that it is better to try the other more gentle options first.:
This tends to eliminate all 'sweating' for the first day or two and control for the rest of the week.
I am a particularly sweaty person (the type that would have to take a change of clothes or never lift their arms up due to the sweat patches) and now i can be more confident in most colours - even when lecturing for a whole day.
Its not an ideal solution - however is better than being smelly or damp all the time!
I get pretty sweaty myself and find I have to change what I get after awhile as just stop working. Over summer I tend to use Driclor to help keep on top of things. Surprisingly the Aldi antiperspirant is working quite well. I had no success with Mitcham, can't remember what one I grabbed though.
I've just started using the Rexona Clinical Protection... I'm about at my wits' end. So far, though, it appears to be working, if this keeps up it'll officially be the answer to my prayers!! I sweat like a bloke, even in the middle of winter (and I live in Central Queensland so it's around 30C for 48 weeks of the year!). It's hideous. Not to mention really unladylike! Other 'strong' antiperspirants work for a couple of hours, if that, then I just big wet patches under my arms as well as the stench of stale fragrance mixed with sweat. Ick.
I know it's probably full of chemicals and what not, but no way on Earth am I able to get away with crystal/natural deodorants - if this keeps working I'll keep forking out the $13 a pop for it, it's well worth it to finally be dry!
I use QV Naked anit-perspirant deo spray from the chemist and have found it to be great, doesnt irritate my skin at all, is fragrance free. You can get an aluminium free one too. I am not a sweater though so not sure how you would go with it.
Well, I was at the shops today and bought the Tea Tree one and the Mitchum unscented to try out. Will let you know how I go.

I'm glad to know there's other people in the same boat. I am very sweaty (even when it's not hot) and it's the bane of my life. It's very embarrassing - not just the wet patches but the smelliness depending on what fabric I'm wearing. At the moment I'm using Dove spray-on because roll-ons just don't seem to work for me whatsoever. But these tips have been good - I'll try some others.
Fiona, it such an embarrassing thing, isn't it? I am also glad that I'm not the only one. It's so good to have places like this where we can ask questions like this without feeling embarrassed.

Sometimes, when I walk into a meeting I feel like saying, "yes, look, I know I smell today but I shower everyday, I use deodorant ... WHAT MORE d'you want me to do?"
We've found the Neways one to be really quite good, and its got none of the nasties in it as well. I think you need to find someone who deals Neways, but I'm sure there are links on their site.
Another vote for Mitchum. I had to start wearing deodorant when I was only 6 or 7 years old because I was getting BO even then...I had chronically sweaty armpits.
Tried 'em all but I still got the wet patches under my arms and was too chicken to lift my arms up during summer for years. I tried all the Rexonas, there was brand called Degree which was reasonable but got discontinued. Mum even bought me men's deodorant because she thought it might be stronger but I didn't like smelling like a bloke!
When I went out to work I would sometimes have to sneak into the ladies room and dry my armpits under the hand-dryer.
Eventually tried Mitchum roll-on...I had only ever used sprays, I hated the wet feeling of roll-ons but I was desperate. I have not used anything else for 5 or 6 years now. My armpits are always dry. Finally!
The other thing that helps me is making sure clothes aren't too tight under my armpits - even with the Mitchum I will get some dampness then (but nothing embarrassing like I used to get). My school uniform was always too tight under my arms (it was homemade, Mum always sewed them herself) which I think is a lot of the reason I had such a chronic problem with sweating...it wasn't just the lack of an effective anti-perspirant.
I am a miessence fan. I won't use nasty ones and miessence is nasty free. I actually like Tahitian Dream Bath - I don't think it smells anything like Salami!!! :rofl: If it does I smell like it all the time!!!! I use both of their scents the other is ancient spice. I don'tsmell and I live in Qld where it does get hot. HTH :hug:
Another Mitchum fan here. I've been using it since I was pregnant with DS (12 yrs) after a friend recommended it to me. It's the only deodorant I've found that 1: acutally works all day and 2: I'm not allergic to! The Avon 24hr one is also good.
I also find what I wear very important. I just can't wear cotton/poly. I sweat too easy in it and once that has happened that top will always smell the moment I get a bit warm.

I'm using Mitchum unscented at the moment, it's been good for the past few months.
Driclor works really well, but I can't use it because the trade off is a burning rash for me, no sweat, but omg the burning!! :( It does have nasties in it, very high aluminium.
I used to use the Dove pink roll on which was pretty good but I found it left stains on my clothes the underarms looked really grotty so I gave that one up after a friend of mine said she had the same problem with it, before that I thought it was just me:redface:
this is all really interestinf to me as i go some deoderant the other day , by reccomendation and it was
body crystal , now usuing other deo's i dont usally smell ,but this one made me smelly , i could smell my BO when trying on clothes of lifing my arms , BUT i dont think its bad enough for others to smell , kwim ?
also i dont sweat alot , just produce a smell , so whats better , am needing something to stop the smell , as i dont get damp .
driclor - is that for wetness ? and whats this $13 deoderant supposed to do ?
miessesnce - does is stop the smell ?
From what information I gathered from the instruction leaflet, it accumulates in your sweat glands and stops them working overtime, if that makes sense? Sounds pretty nasty, I know, but stuff it - I'm still dry after 36 hours and two showers, I want to *kiss* whatever chemcial ****tail this stuff contains!:
Just cannot beat Mitchum...have used it for years and wouldn't change if u paid me...
Driclor stops the wetness, Mitchum is good for stopping the smell.:
