I've started the process...

I was going to let DS wean himself when ever he felt ready, but after 3 nights away to bring DH home to see the kids I decided since he survived those nights without it, I may as well start.

Day 3 of only one feed at bed time. He only woke once last night, but he sleeps so light that if I move at all for about an hour after he wakes, he's crying again.

He's settling quicker. Not very pleased about the whole thing. But he's ok. Sleeping alot better. Slept in his cot til 4am this morning! Normally he's back in my bed by 1am.

Any support would be great :) Its a tad emotional. He'll be 20 months old in a couple weeks.

He's asleep! No crash & burn at dinner time. He was asleep all by himself by about 1 o'clock. Still sleeping now at nearly 3.

bfing jesse for almost 20 months (esp after reading about your experiences with the girls) is totally inspirational. what a fantastic start jesse has had!

i can't imagine how emotional this part of the bfing journey must be, but hope you are hanging in there okay & that jesse keeps having some great sleeps for you!

Well we went to a friends place last night, so he didn't go to sleep til late, but he slept through. In his cot.
I'm going to try to keep going with the one night feed, but he didn't have it last night, so not sure.

I can see myself going back...not sticking to it...offering again.

Don't be hard on yourself about slipping or changing your mind - it's ok.

I agree with Marcellus - don't be hard on yourself if you start offering again you are merely being flexible and responsive to his needs. If you do want to cut his feeds right back then we are here to support you :hug:

One feed. The night time, go to bed feed. I can't stop completely. Not quite ready for that.
I was a bit worried he might get confused, but I think he's going ok. Not asking as much, happily taking his cup instead. Or if he does ask, he'll accept a drink in a cup.

I just think about the fact that this is it. I'm not planning any more babies, so I'm never going to have this chance again. As said before, it worked this time. I pushed myself to get this right & it took alot to get past all our problems. Then the issues I have with my failure to feed the girls for more than a few weeks. Makes it all just a bit more emotional iykwim?

:hug: Skye. We are down to one night feed too. I cut DD back to two bfs, morning and night, over two years ago. It hasn't affected the self-weaning process in our case, as DD still wants those bfs! I can't tell you how long he'll keep having just one night-time bf, because every toddler is different. But that is our experience.

We've cut back to one too. When we were doing daycare and DS got sick all the time I bumped it up to 4-6, whatever he wanted since he was ill, and then back down to 1 when he was feeling better. Even now, sometimes I give him extra, just cause I want too. Kids are flexible too, I don't think it's going to be a problem for you to do that.

It's a big step for the both of you, so be kind to yourself and take it slow if you need to. :hug:
