After seeing some atrocious photos of me....the challenge is on!

So I just saw some horrific photos of me that a freind has put on facebook. OMG, I am sooo FAT! It's horrible. I knew I was overweight, but didn't think I looked so bad. It has certainly brought it home to me that I really need to get healthy and fit, not just to look better, but to just feel better with myself.
So I have up to 28kgs to lose. That would get me back to the shape I was in when I met DH at 18yrs old! But realistically I think I would probably be happy with 20kgs. That would get me back to pre ttc, pre pregnancy (including my 2nd angel) weight.
Wow, 20kgs....how daunting. Guess I won't be having anymore devil chicken wings for dinner at 9.30pm, with a 2-cupcake chaser dessert any more....:redface:
So now I am *gulp* 88kgs.....getting under 80kgs has proven to be my first hurdle recently, so that will be my first goal, to get under 80kgs, by....lets see, christmas is what, 9weeks away?? Maybe new year would be a good goal.

Hi hun, I too had the shocking realisation of my extra weight when I looked through the photos my sister took of me on the beach with the kids about a month ago. It's not like I was in a bikini, I was wearing board shorts & a singlet top & OMG.... gross!!!!

I recently joined the gym & I have 15kg to lose. I'm happy to join you to see how much we can lose by Christmas. I'm 68kg now, 9 weeks... hmmmm maybe get down to 60kg? I dont know if thats too much to aim for, maybe as close to 60kg as possible for me by Christmas ;)

Lets do it!!!!

Way to go making the decision to do something- shame it takes those horrid picture realisation moments to kick us into gear hey? I had one about 21/2 months ago that got my butt into gear. I've lost nearly 6.5 kg to date since then, so that's in about 10 weeks - not as much as many say - the one kg per week.
So I would encourage you not to set too high a goal to start in too short a time. Half a kg a week is fairly realistic.
Check out calorie king too - it's got some good stuff to offer.

I am sneaking in too.... I have 10kgs to loose. I am 73kgs and would be delighted if I could loose 5 kgs by xmas time. I can do it. I got dh to fix up my push bike. I am starting water aerobics once a week. I wanted to buy a bike trailer so I could take the kids on a ride with me...otherwise I would have to get up at the crack of dawn...unlikely! I have decided to have 1 naughty day a week with chocolate. Drink loads of water and eat more raw food.

I also decided that once I get to 70kgs I will treat myself with an hoour massage.
If I hit 67kg around xmas...shopping spree and another massage!

The only thing that might hold me back is if I fall pg.....will be trying after Novemeber though so gives me a month to get on the way to beingfit and into a routine....

Iv been trying to lose 10kg for about 6 months and it just wont shift. Lately i have had a few problems with my back that makes exercise hard so i need to work on my diet big time.

my biggest hurdle is work - the fact i work there (kfc), my work hours, times i do / dont get to eat at work, and currently its stressing me out. i finish management training this week so were hoping to swing back into the diet once i stop stressing about my certification tomorrow.

i own a crosstrainer but never have the time or energy to get on the damn thing so i need some kicking! i also always forget to eat breakfast which is ideal for metabolism.

cookie will your cross trainer fit in the lounge room? You may be able to squeeze in some time on it while watching your fav shows? I used one of those at the gym.... not as easy as it looks hey but feels so damn good after you've achieved the time you set out to do on it!

I'm heading to the gym tomorrow night, the kids will be having dinner with their dad at their grandparents place so I'm going to try to update my ipod & take that with me to get me going! Hoping to start a bit of a routine soon....
I've also started having porridge for breakfast instead of vegemite on toast & I quite enjoy the porridge, I thought I'd hate it :lol:

i should really make sure i watch tv in the lounge instead of on the laptop/in bedroom. we download most of our shows so maybe watching them out there would be good incentive.

i have some 1.5kg dumbells too but i had to hide them so little one didnt hurt himself and when theyre outta sight - outta mind IYKWIM!

I have done fairly well today and yesterday. Eaten ok both days, though still had a few things I shouldn't have, like an icecream (my favourite!) and extra breakfast I didn't need. But I'm being realistic and know it won't happen all at once.
I went for a walk today and we went to taronga zoo yesterday and walked for 4 hours around there pushing DS and all of the food and drinks around which is very hilly!

Ok kids and DH are whinging....can't have 10mins to myself

I ate really well today and stopped eating when I was full (I have an issue with finishing whats on my plate). I also rode to pick the girls up from day care and lugged them back on the trailer. And I did about 4 hours of house cleaning. Real test is tomorrow...a party.

I have been thinking of getting a bike too. I could ride to work and back when I don't have to take the kids to childcare or mums. Well...I couldn't ride to work now but once I've lost a bit of weight and I'm fitter....it's about a 10km trip, so it would be a pretty good ride! Oh well, I'll just stick with walking for now. I'n a week or two I will start to try running, eeeekkkk!!!!!

I feel pretty pumped Kel. Even though the ride took about 10 minutes each way, its a good way to get into it. My clothes already feel a bit looser too.;) The girls werent super keen on the bike trailer but I will try them again with it. I dont think they liked being closed in. Once I had the cover off they were ok. When dh is home I might just ride on my own:) I dont run....cant run and wont run, so I am happy to ride or swim

I had an ok day yesterday. My mums friend works for Arnotts and gets biscuits very cheap and dh put an order in recently which we got on Sat. Sucks, chocolate bickies everywhere! Tried to be good yesterday but caved a few times. None today though, i will be strong!

Started the couch to 5km running program yesterday. Its a 9 week program where at the end you should be able to run 5km or run for 30 minutes. If i can do it i will be sooo proud of myself, always wanted to be a runner but never been able to do it. Felt good after i finished my run.

GTG, DS has had enough of playing nicely and wants attention.

Yayyyy, Ash!! Congrats babe!!!

Well today is a no go for me.....it was DH and my anniversary (8yrs!!!) and we went out for lunch with the kids and I have a couple of glasses of wine while we ate and then watched the Melbourne cup. I haven't eaten REALLY badly but definately not healthily! Had a few hot chips, 1/2 a peice of choccy cake, 2 glasses of wine, too much soft drink, noodles with veggies and chicken. Not too bad but not great. No exercise either. 39degrees out ehre today, soooo hot, and it's still really hot and sticky too. ICK!! And besides DH won't let me go out in the dark alone.
So back to it properly tomorrow. AF showed up today so I am seriously craving something sweet. And I'm moody and grumpy. Sore back sore tummy at the mo too....poor me!! God women get the **** end of the stick don't we??

Mel, did you try the kids int he trailer again? Hope it wasn't as hot in Melbourne as it was in Sydney!

Isabel, I am going to try to do the couch to 5km thing too, though I think I will start with a couple of weeks of walking first, cause I am soooo unfit and don't really like running either! But it's free, so I will try. But I would much rather swim!

Cookiemonster: Congrats on passing. I used to work at KFC years ago. Back then tho i could eat as much as i wanted and didn't put on any weight. Not that i appreciated it back then. Glad i dont work there now otherwise i would be 3 times my size... yummo...

Lilias: Happy anniversary! Lunch sounds lovely. I always crave sweets whether i have af or not. Craving a choccie biscuit as we speak! Will stay strong. Was looking at the couch to 5km program today and the first few weeks are easy and then they really ramp it up. Scary. See how i go. We can support each other through it if you like. Had a good day food wise today. Managed to only eat 2 biscuits so not great but better than yesterday. Lucky dh is making his way through them all really quickly so they should be gone soon. He is one of those super annoying people who can eat junk all day and still be skinny as. Made a really nice salad for dinner with falafels. Was really yum. Even dh liked it which is amazing as he is def a meat man.

:pray: to have some weight loss this week. Would really like to get back to my pre preg weight by ds 1st birthday so 5 kg in 5 weeks. Do-able but dont know if i will make it.

I got on the bike again today for about 25 minutes. I had the trailer on with dd1 in it. I dont think i will get one coz she doesnt really enjoy it and dd2 hates it! Looks like I can go riding on my own:) Dh is encouraging me and says that we wont have any chocolate at home, which is good because we can consume alot!

Well, I'm plodding along ok. I went walking again yesterday, I took a different route though and it was a bit harder, felt good though. Eating is going ok, still not great, but better at least. I need to drink more water, eat more fruit and veggies and less bread and carby stuff. I eat waaayyy too many carb loaded foods like bread, crackers, muffins....stuff like that. I'm REALLY craving junk tonight, some choccy or icecream would go down a treat tonight! Oh, Oh....or some butterscotch pudding and icecream...mmmmm *drrroooooooooollllllllllll* Ok gotta stop that! Maybe a bit of choccy milk, skim milk of course! And just a teaspoon of choccy powder.

boy oh boy oh boy.... I havent been doing well the last couple of days :( Going to make the time to get to the gym tomorrow with the kids, I feel so angry at myself, I'm just so weak when it comes to junk food :cry: at least I've managed to stay away from the maltesers, thats an achievementfor me :lol:

Danielle, I have been having up and down days. But I want this to be a lasting change, so I am just taking it as I can. It is going to take me time to change my habbits, because I have had these bad habbits for SOOO long! But I am walking every second day, and next week I will start to go every day that I can manage with DH's shifts and work and stuff. Hopefully at least 4-5 times a week. Because it is only walking I think I need to do it at least that often to see some sort of result. When (if!) I manage to start running I will do it less often. DH suggested I go swimming, which I do enjoy, but that will cost $$ not much but still....and it would take longer cause I have to go to the pools, change, swim, shower, change and drive home. All up probably and 1 1/2hrs. When a walk takes me 30-45ish mins depending on where I walk.

Other than that, I have been struggling a bit with healthy eating. Had cake yesterday, and something else I shouldn't have, but can't think what it was now....and then just too much food too. I am an emotional eater, and when I feel crappy I eat, and yesterday wasn't a good day! So I ate and ate, alllll day :( must use some self control! And find other things to do when stressed out....hmmmm, but what with two toddlers? On the upside, I have lost 1.4kgs this week! Yay!!!! Still keeping my goal of being under 80kg by new years. But I have to stay focussed!

Lilas -Congrats on the loss - BUT if you are an emotional eater, you need to get rid of that junk out of your house totally so you can't get your hands on it when you are feeling emotional.
You might only have 'a little slice of cake' or whatever, but you'd be suprised how many calories are in that slice of cake.
To be losing weight, you should consume around 1300 calories per day - one slice of cake is about 500 cal on it's own - walking fast (puffing) will burn about 200 cal for 30 mins.

I am not trying to be mean to you, but trying to get you in the headspace that you need to be in before you are really ready to lose weight.
I really do recommend the calorie king site using their food diaries for a good few weeks to really get an honest idea of just what you are consuming and what you need to change.
It certainly opened my eyes!

Ausgirl, thanks for that advice. I know what you are saying. I don't have junk in my house. I would be absolutely huge if I did! And I have used calorie King before which did work, but honestly, now with 2 toddlers and working I just don't really have time to do it all. And realistically, I don't really want to be doing it long term, I want to learn to do it automatically, and just rely on my knowledge that this food is healthy or whatever. The junk I do eat is usually at work, or I (or dh) go and buy it.

I am trying to make this a lasting change so I am taking teeny tiny baby steps! I know to others it might sound like I'm not doing so well, but trust me this is an improvement from my usual! I actually only had one small slice of cake, rather than two huge ones which I would have done before. I am eating proportionate servings rather than double the amount I am supposed to. I am walking 30-45mins 3x a week rather than nothing at all. I am trying to do it in small managable bits. Increase it all slowly so it is a bit easier to make a lasting transition.

I used to do all of this as my normal life before I had kids, I was a healthy weight, so I can do it, but its been a long time since I have had good habbits, so I'm trying slowly. In the past I have done it all in one go, food exercise and I failed, just gone back to my bad habbits and it just hasn't been managable for me, so maybe if I do it in baby steps, it will work....

Well you are losing, so that is the main thing! Keep going, and yes, I get the baby steps - with me if I don't rule out everything for the first few months, I seem to get nowhere. Everyone is different though hey?

Wooot!!!!!! Almost 2 kgs gone!! Yay!

Still exercising every day, just walking but I have been 4 times this week already. And two of those days I have pushed DD in the pram too, aaallllll the way up the hill! OMG, I was sooo puffed out after it! But I feel good going out now, even on the few days that it's been quite hot!

I haven't been eating well at all! It was mine and DH's anniversary the other day so there was lunch out that day and a few drinks, then it was DH's bday, so cake and a big bday dinner for him, then an early chrissy lunch for work cause some of my workmates are going away until next year, so not healthy stuff then.....I haven't been buying junk to eat at home though, which is an improvement and I've been watching my portions, so no huge meals, and no eating after about 7.30pm for me. Seems to be making a difference so that is a good thing.

Still having issues with eating fruit and veggies, though the water thing is going well, I'm drinking at least 1 1/2 ltrs of water, on top of other things like tea/green tea, milk, the occaisional juice or softdrink. I will get on top of the earting again today, no more cake in the house and we will be doing the grocery shopping tonight, so I will get more fruit!

:clap:on the weight loss Lilias. I too have lost 2kg :dance: i think i was really kidding myself about my portions and eating habits. Im drinking over 2 litres of water a day and feel great.Its really easy though in this weather, we are having a stinker in adelaide, 39 for a few days and its not getting better. Really into eating fruit and veg too. Eating well means that i have to do the cooking though as dh usually does it. He is one of those people we hate that eat junk and never put on weight. Running isn't going so well though as it is so hot in the house its hard to get on the treadmill. Heading to the gym tonight to see if its any better. I am up to week two day two on my running program and its going really well. Thought week two would kill me but my body felt really good, just couldn't push coz it was too hot. Wearing some more of my pre preg clothes too which im really happy about. Still a way to go though so cant become complacent. Feeling really positive this week. Hope your all well!

Hey Kel. Good luck with your weight loss journey. I was the same last xmas - 86kg - my heaviest ever except during pregnancy. I made the committment and am now 20kg lighter at 66kg.

The secrets that I have found have worked for me (may or may not help)
1. It doesn't matter how many times you fall off the wagon - it only matters that you get back on. I get on and off at every station!
2. Know which foods are worth their calories/fat and which calories/fat you are eating when you don't even like the food (e.g. normal mayonnaise - 20g of fat!, low fat mayo - 0.8g!)(a weis ice-cream bar is worth about the same calories as a monte carlo yet I could eat 20 monte carlos but would never eat more than one weis ice-cream)
3. Make changes that you feel comfortable keeping up for the rest of your life e.g. don't cut out every treat or feel you have to run a marathon every week to lose weight. My first goal was to cut out junk food at work and to start playing soccer.
4. Pick up a team sport or another exercise that you cannot skip. Team sports are great because other people rely on you being there. Exercise that is also social as well as voluntary is shown to burn more calories as similar exercise that is forced or solitary. They are also important because when you fall off the wagon (as everyone does) it will put you back on. Every week I have to go to soccer no matter what. Even if I eat crap the entire week soccer resets my button and away I go again.

You sound like you are doing so well already! Keep up the good work!

Quickish post from me....I have been doing ok I guess. My biggest thing is I started the couch to 5k program and for me that is a big effort coz I havent ran in more than 16 years.....I went on my second run today and did well. I have a friend who is doing it with me, we did it together on Friday. She is my motivation. She is very fit and skinny despite having twin 3 year olds and a 2 year old (dont you despise those women!!!) I think I have nearly lost 2kgs. I also started water aerobics on Tuesday nights...again with my fit and skinny friend! So feeling pumped and dh is being really supportive and its great I have him on board:)

Oh and the other thing I am going to start tomorrow is some lovely and maybe a little confronting for me...colonic irrigation....I have always had "poo" problems, so looking to detox myself and start looking and feeling good;)

Isabel, you're going great! I'm doing ok with my drinking. It has been pretty warm in Syd too, though not 41! I'm better at drinking at work than I am at home. I get sooo distracted at home!

Krysalyss, wow, you have doen so well!! Thanks for the tips, it sounds like your have approached your weightloss in a similar way I am. I want to implement things that are realistic for me. Eating super healthy 100% of the time and going gang busters with exercise just isn't me and never will be so trying to lose wieght that way for me lasts about a month or two before everything falls apart and I just go back to my old ways and probably put on more weight than before anyway! So my walking and eating ok most of the time is working so far. I will review and modify things once I hit a plateau.

Kel- I have never really been a runner except when they made me at school, I always was amoungs the last! I suppose for me I am doing it coz its free and only takes about 30 minutes to do. I hate the thought of having to pay child care fees on top of a gym memebership especially since we arent loaded with $$. As for the colonic irrigation, I am hoping to have a good clean out because I suffered bad constipation when I was pg with Bec and post birth I got that very painful fissure. We are ttc so I am hoping a clean out will prevent some of these issues as well as make me regular. I read in another thread that a girl had it done and dropped a few kgs from her first session and am kind of thinking that will happen to me too (but definately not the main reason for it).

Kel...I think you should give the running a go....if i can do it, you can too:)

LOL, good on you for going though.
I have started to add 2 x 12 (each) push ups, tricep dips and situps to my walking, as well as walking further. My chest, lower tummy and arms are killing me! I am soooo unfit!!
Eating has been good since yesterday, lol! I was really good yesterday without even trying but it may have been the 40 degree heat which made that easy. Mostly ate just salad and fruit all day. And I drank a tonne of water!

I hope everyone is going well :) And if not, then just jump back on the wagon.....everyone falls off occaisionally.

Good work Breeze :clap: I cant believe you went to see a PT, I am sooo scared of PT's at the gym lol. Been keeping away from them. You will be amazed how quickly your fitness will increase, the hardest step is that first one.

Lilias: Good work on the eating. It really is easier in summer. I find i drink so much water and crave fresh fruit and veg over heavy meals. Im a major carbaholic but really dont want to eat carbs at the moment coz of the heat.

Minimatron: Im considering the colonic irrigation. Weirds me out a bit though lol. How are you going with the running program? I am up to week 3 and it has killed me. I ran for 3 minutes straight yesterday and was so proud of myself. I am sooo not a runner either but DH is and so im trying to become a runner so we can do it together. We have a 5km run booked in for 6 weeks time so i have to keep on track! Your right though it is so quick and easy. I do it when ds is in bed and its done and dusted quickly.

Well i weighed in today and unfortunately it was a gain. Had such a great start and now its creeping back on. I just dont get it. Its like my body just wants to be 77 kg and thats it. Not really happy about it today. Trying to remain positive though as the changes i am making are life changes but yeah, still a bit upset.
