I've always wanted to read Wuthering Heights. It's been sitting on my bedside table for a year or so but I never get around to actually reading it. I've also wanted to read Emma for years but have never gone and got myself a copy.

I've actually been meaning to read Lance Armstrong's "It's Not About the Bike". Haven't got around to it yet. Too many unfinished books on my bedside table as it is!

Another one for Wuthering Heights here. I borrowed it from the library years ago but couldn't get past the first chapter :( I've been wanting to give it another go.
I had always wanted to read 'Catcher in the Rye' and finally did it a few years ago. It was pretty awesome :D

Inanna - To Kill A Mockingbird is so amazing. Also the movie is fantastic. Gregory Peck is spellbinding in it.
Twelve Angry Men is another. Seen the old black and white movie with Henry Fonda in it and want to see if the book is just as awesome.
I wish I could say one of the classics but mine is one that my DH brought for me last Christmas. He was so proud because he picked it all by himself (I work in a bookshop so read a lot). It is called "Things I want my daughters to know" by Elizabeth Noble and it is about a woman who writes a farewell letter to each of her 4 daughters. The tag-line on the back says "How would you say goodbye to those you love most in the world".. The thought of it makes me want to bawl.. I am a huge sook and don't think I'll be able to cope with reading it. DH has actually asked me a few times if it's on my 'favourites' list and I just smile and say yes. I can't admit to him I can't read it! :redface: :D

I loved Wuthering Heights. Haven't read it in years. I was actually thinking of To Kill a Mockingbird yesterday - has to be one of the best books I've ever read and the movie is fantastic too.

I used to have all these books I "should" get around to reading but then a few years back I thought "hang on, how about I just read what I like?" . So now if I don't get past the first chapter, out it goes. That said, some books need to be read once you are older. For me it is Simone de Beauvoir's "The Mandarins". It is about a group of French intellectuals after WW2 and their turmoils and relationships. I have started it twice and got a bit further each time, but I've decided its a book IU will revisit every five years or so and read further as I age.
I didn't know that was a book. I remember watching that movie in school. I might have to go searching.:

another one for wuthering heights. I watched the film on it on tv a week or 2 ago - loved it! I really should get round to reading the book one day though ;)
I have been reading quite a few of the "classics" on my iPhone using eReader. Its great - means I always have a book with me AND I can read at night and DH doesn't whinge! Because these books are so old I can get them for free from Project Gutenburg. I am reading Elizabeth Gaskells "North and South" atm and have just finished "Wives and Daughters". I also have all of Jane Austen and Charlotte and Emily Bronte lined up! (tho I have read most already JA's Persuasion is my fave)
I would really like to read the works of Charles ****ens - they are next on my download list!
(I'd love some more "classics" ideas as well)

I say read Lord of the Rings AND watch the movies. The books are hard going at times with all the weird names etc but I really enjoyed them.

MD did you enjoy War and Peace? I was put off by the sheer size years ago, so read Anna Karenina instead and like it :)

I think somewhere on line you can do a free read and study of the 5 love languages, prob for love dare as well, you might just have to do some serious google work. Won't be as good as the real thing but still might be something. :) I reckon every marriage could beneift from the love dare. DH and I are thinking of setting aside 40days from our anniversary next year to do it.

I have read most of these books mentioned here... but over 10 years ago... some as long as 20+ years ago! I agree with Rory that you sometimes need to read something again when you are older and have a broader perspective (therefore appreciation) of the language and themes. I read the complete Lord of The Rings trilogy when I was 15 for example... I need to read it again... same with Wuthering Heights (read when i was about 20).
One book that springs to mind is the Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie. I started it back in 1990 when i was 20. I only read the first few chapters... i vaguely recall the start being quite funny.... nothing like I was expecting... then it all got a bit too hard.... I didn't know anything about the Middle East back then... need to finish reading it now after years of listening to the BBC's in depth discussions on Middle Eastern issues for the past 6 years LOL
I also need to re-read To Kill A Mockingbird. I studied that when i was 15 in high-school... no way known would i read it with the same level of understanding 25 years later...
To Kill a Mockingbird was on our VCE reading list as well but we ended up reading The Crucible instead. I LOVED The Crucible! I should really read it again as an adult.

I ought Moby **** a few years ago to read which I haven't gotten around to yet...
One of the proudest moments (ok, slight exageration!) was when I finished reading Les Miserables, it took me about a year and it was hard going but I did it. The thing is I really didnt enjoy it most of the time but once I started I just HAD to finish it! I'm glad I did though!

Oh it's depressing more than romantic...
Wuthering Heights reads more like a Gothic novel than a romance... but I'd love to follow your thread :)
