Hi everyone,
I had a S&S today. What can I do now to encourage labour to start? The Dr who performed the S&S said I was 2-3 cm dialated and she could feel the baby's head - so Im guessing I am ready to go (so to speak).
I look forward to reading your replies :)
ETA- I forgor to mention that I am booked in for an induction on Friday (for a few different reasons) if I dont go in earlier. I would LOVE to go in on my own

I don't know if this will help or not, but i know that everyone always says go for a walk to bring it on.
When i was preggers with my DD, I ran up and down stairs and up and down my hallway for hours until she was crowning!! My labour was fast, 3hrs, perhaps a little too fast?? But all in all i'm hoping to keep active with this pregnancy too just to keep the labour short.
the other option is the spicy food option. the idea is that you get an upset stomach and have the runs... just like how they used to use caster oil to bring on labour... its the contractions caused by the diarrhoea that gets labour going... or at least that's the theory.
No matter what.. take care, safe delivery and all the best! It will happen eventually! OOooooo... exciting

I would be going for a long walk, preferably with some uphill in there! My waters broke before I went into labour (well before I could actually feel the contractions!) , I was admitted to the maternity ward and the midwife told me to go for a walk to help speed up the process so we walked around the hospital block twice. By the time we got back I was getting a gush of water every step (so not a nice feeling!) and not long after I could feel the contractions.
If you're already that far dilated it sounds like you aren't too far off!
Well its too dark outside for me to go for a walk - Im a big scardy cat in the dark. I thought I would do laps around the house..........
If it were me, I'd be getting my rest tonight. Have you tried accupuncture yet?
Jodi- No I havnt tried accupuncture - Im a bit sceptical.
My waters havnt broken - so is it safe to still have sex?
It's worth a try, can't do any harm. I went to 2 sessions of accupuncture before having Emily. It worked a treat.
Sex will be fine if your waters haven't broken.

Good luck! I hope it works for you. I've read that bouncing on a fit ball can have a similar effect to walking. But you need rest too :)

Nipple stimulation might help you, either just for the fun of it:lol: or to express some milk for your freezer for when bub arrives. Also if you have any clary sage oil in the house then pop a few drops in some milk, put it in the bath and have a long soak. Clary sage is also good if you put one or two drops in some almond or olive oil and massage your belly in a clockwise circle.

Relax, rest, have a nice warm bath and use imagin your little one moving down into your birth canal, sex with sperm and an orgasm :), look up accupressure points to help labour along :)

I can vouch for walking. Kicked all 3 of mine into gear! Even got DS to come 2 days early when the girls were over a week late ;) I did walk about 2kms the night before though...& that was after walking around town all morning & nesting all afternoon! (MIL's house looked great when I finished! lol)
I hope you got a good nights sleep last night! Now I'd say it's time to go for a nice long walk and maybe pick yourself up a curry on the way home! :)

Nothing much happened overnight, a few tightnings here and there and a couple of mild cramps but nothing to get excited about - DH wouldnt even have sex with me cause HE had a headache :shakehead: Thats usually MY excuse lol!
I am borrowing a friends fitball so will have a bounce on that. I just really want to beat Fridaays induction day, I was induced with my other 2 babies and would love the experience of going in naturally
i went into labor 32 hours after my S&S, walking and bouncing helped and also lots of nipple stimulaion. I put on a dvd and got out the breast pump and pumped away for a while :)
If nothing has happned yet some sex, an orgasm will do wonders ;) same hormones i believe, and another good nights rest!!! you still have a few more days, do your walking, excerise, house cleaning and some rest during the day, I am sure you will be in labour yourself soon, 2-3cm with contractions last night sounds good to me. Accupunture !!! I had a session early afternoon and that night, around tea time I was in labour.

The walking didnt work for me, but have a crack at orgasm, even if it doesnt work still a great stress relief and good to get your glow on! ;)

i'd go the nipple stimulation - that got my labour started im pretty sure oh and the squats and the pelvic tilts in the driveway (which i didnt realise the neighbours were watching :redface: )

Hi Ubba - I found the thread, no rush ha ha! How are you? I'm still bleeding a little of the "show".....few tightenings in the belly so just waiting waiting. I'm ok if it doesn't happen till the end of the week, I'm not full term until Sunday so no rush.....besides, I'm freaking out cause I'm scared LOL!

I had a S&S done with my first and went into labour the next day. I didn't realise i was in labour at the time though.. So S&S done Tuesday Ethan born at 12:10 am Friday morning

Go the accupunture I reckon, tell them why and they'lll get an appointment for you...sorry pretty average advice, if you don't have one near you? Plenty of us cheering you on, hope it helps!!!
Well, Im still pregnant lol (that was a sarcastic laugh by the way...)
I got the breast pump out but couldnt find any bottles so the colostrum I got out soaked into a towel and went to waste :doh: I was actually surprised at the amount that came out, deffinately going to make a good cow :lol:
I tried accupressure last night. There are points in your hands between your thumb and finger and as I was massaging thoses areas I actually got some tightenings! I didnt actually think it would work!
I went for a walk last night too. I walked down the end of my road and then back up the hill - just about killed me! Everyone I walked past gave me an understanding smile like they remember doing exactly the same thing.
I am going to resign myself to the fact that I am getting induced Friday morning and will have the baby then - if s/he decides to come sooner - BONUS!
U will go into labour before friday! don't forget driveway squats!!!
Hi Ubba - I hear your frustration! I had mine on Monday and still here! Still getting some very light bleeding and some tightenings but nothing else. As a first timer, I can't tell what's from the procedure and what's the beginnings of the labour. I did get excited when I had to go to the loo 3 times for number 2's yesterday ha ha (sorry TMI). Grrr.....I think I could go till early next week and then I'll be over waiting. ha ha. :o
hj- I forgot about the driveway squats!! Ill head out there after tea then I know the high school kids wont be walking past to laugh at me :D

Still nothing much happening - although I have had alot of CM today.
Ubba- I remember being in your position. I had a S& S and was 1 cm dilated before that and I think 50% effaced. I had that done at 40wks. It didnt work :( and I tried everything else. I didnt want to be induced so pushed it out until 42weeks instead of 10 days over and DD came naturally when I was 13 days overdue. It was the longest 2 weeks of my life and everyone else was having babies around me! She must have just wanted to pick her own birthday.

Hello, thought I would drop in with me two bobs worth :p I had stretch and sweep Monday, DD2 arrived Thursday morning.
I did MANY things, there is also an acupressure point on you ankle (pedicure maybe ;)) Try a long hot soak in the tub, worked for me.

Hey Girls - it's so interesting to read how it works differently for everyone. I've been getting lots of tightenings today and feel quite uncomfortable so not sure if it's doing something! The bleeding has subsided but I just feel different. We shall see! Come on Ubba, I'd feel dreadful if I beat you to it given you're a little ahead of me time wise!!!!!!!!! Squat squat squat girl! xx

Hi Ubba - thanks mate, luv ya! I'm still here though so don't think you have anything to worry about. Starting to think maybe it didn't work......yesterday had some definite things happening but eased off last night. I give up!
Hopefully no news from Ubba means good news..... :pray:
