My poor lips are so dry. They are flaky and of course look terrible with lipstick on! Sometimes they get so bad they crack and bleed.
I've tried multiple lip balms and special lip treatments and none of them work. Does anyone have any suggestions of any products that have worked for them, or any other ideas?

I really like the red Chapstick. It's the only one I've found that works for me. The Nutrimetics Nutrarich (sp?) stuff is also brilliant.
Maybe you need to drink more water as well.
As a makeup artist I always suggest paw paw ointment and brushing your lips with a dry toothbrush... After a few days you should notice a vast improvement.

Mrs Hendo is that the paw paw ointment you get in the red tube at the chemist? And I presume the brushing with dry toothbrush is exfoliating?
Tinks I've tried the red chapstick- not so good for me :( but thanks! And yes, more water would be good for my lips and the rest of me!
Yep thats the one. I find it really good, i even use it on my cuticles when doing my nails. And the dry brushing is really good for exfoliating but I would suggest doing that after a couple of days when they have softened a tad otherwise depending on how dry they are you don't want to end up bleeding. But like our skin exfoliating our lips is really important too.
I really hope it works for you I have never come across someone it hasn't :)

I recently bought the paw paw ointment for dry lips and found it was fantastic! I have used other products, which were really good, but this was by far the best i reckon :)
I would say try paw paw cream or Carmex lip balm. The Carmex is meant to soothe and heal. I know friends have used it and loved.
Watch that one... although it isn't labelled as so, it is a petroleum based product. There are other paw paw ointments out there that are much better. Try googling paw paw petroleum to find some others (Simmons or Nutraceuticals). I found Nutraceuticals in my local pharmacy, and it is lovely :)!:
I second the water thing too. Your lips can become addicted to the lip treatment and the only real solution is increasing your water intake so that you are no longer dehydrated.
you can also try lanolips, so great :)
Moogoo lip balm.
And lots of water! Since drinking lots of water my lips are perfectly kissable and non-cracked with huge chunks of dry skin.
yeah i love lucas paw paw ointment in the red tube.
i tried brushing my lips with toothbrush and it just made them more raw and sore.
also blue chapstick
carmex or blistex are good.
Nivea lip balm, aqua blue one - for damaged lips works a treat for me.
paw pas tube or blistex works for me. It does take a few days. At night I would put heaps on and all around the outside edge of the lip as well. Let it have a good soaking over night so to speak! ;)
Also try and drink as much water as you can so you can be rehydrating from the inside as well :hug:

None of those products ever work for me, so I use bepanthen. It also helps to heal cracked and bleeding lips, which blistex won't do. It does make them a little oily so don't use too much at once.
I haven't tried the MooGoo one but I would give it a go if Bepanthen ever stops working.
I'm trying the "red" pawpaw ointment, and so far so good, although its still early days.
Can someone enlighten me on the evils of the fact its petrolium based? (or do I not want to know?!)
Im ot sure about the evils of petroleum based but you cant use the red one with cloth nappies LOL
They sell the black one at our local priceline, which is better apparently
Carmex is absolutely brilliant. Not oly does it work on dry, cracked lips it is also great for cold sores.

I use and LOVE the Lucas paw paw in a red tube. Yup, it's petroleum based, so it's a no go on my clothie bummed boy. I use a MooGoo product on him, but i'm not sure that would be thick enough for your lips - i guess they would do a more intensive lip cream.
I'm not sure of any evils of petroleum? Can it be more evil than driving my car?
Natio lip treatment is fantastic - not sure where it's from though as is was part of a gift set I was given.
Petroleum-free Paw Paw ointment (the black tube, not the red one) and MooGoo lipbalm. I have tried everything from Carmex to Blistex to Chapstick and nothing has worked for me over the long term like these two products.
also dermalogica has a great lip balm (lips love it ) i think thats what its called , its around $19 and very good !!
Bepanthen or sudocream here, those little tubs and tubes they give you in hopsy are great :)
Sudocream for lips? Is there anything you can't use bepanthen for I wonder? :D
My Mum uses Vaseline and loves it. I currently use the red tube of nivea something-something which is good. I used to love the berry blistex, but dislike it since they added colour to it (and I've got a whole 'nother tube to get through after this one :doh:). I also have a number of avon 'naturals' lip balms floating around, which are okay, but Steph thinks they are fantastic, so I'm letting her use those up.
Does anyone use the chapstick natural honey one (sorry, I think that's what it is....:redface:)? I want to try that one next.
With regard to the petrochemical question, the problem with petrochemical products are many and information can easily be found on the internet to get a quick grasp. Try googling something like 'dangers petrochemical products' to get a snapshot.
The problem is that it is a mineral oil, a byproduct of the petroleum industry and when it comes down to it, there is a heap of things we ingest in daily life that is bad for us. We all have to make our own decisions about what we are willing to accept and what we want to avoid as it is impossible to rely on manufactures to help us make decisions. I like the idea of informed choice though and when I found out that Lucas Paw Paw ointment was petroleum based, I looked up what that meant, decided that I would avoid it if I could and was really happy to find another product (Yes the black tube one ;)) that I liked even better and was petrochemical free.

We are of course free to use what we want and what we favor, its a personal choice. It can be really hard to avoid petrochemicals as they are present in many cosmetic products including baby oil, lipstick, face creams, body lotions and sunscreens. I think that knowing more about them is a good thing though to make informed decisions about what we put into our bodies.:
Lip balms, gloss, and lipsticks also contain a significant amount of mineral oil. These products actually produce the opposite effect of what they were intended to do. Acting as a moisture barrier, the mineral oils dehydrate the lips causing the consumer to have to constantly re-apply, which achieves the desired effect, but only temporarily.
Netix- the chapstick natural one is actually quite good, I think. I liked it, but had to re-apply it a LOT.

Chemist Warehouse also stocks the petro-free Pawpaw ointment.
There's also a petro-free pawpaw in an orange tube that I love. It has macadamia and jojoba oil in it, as well as pawpaw and shea butter.
