christmas trees do you have a fake one or a real one??
Fake becuase of my hayfever. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to ahve a real one.
Fake as easier and tidier!!
Always had fake growing up apart from 1st year living in Australia, when we were given a real one and as nice as it was ouch ouch pins in feet and mum said never again!!
fake. I cann't bring myself to kill a beautiful tree just to use as a decoration at christmas. I don't have anything against people who do - they look beautiful, and i have considered it. But i just cann't bring myself to have one.
Ohhh I love real ones. The smell, and imperfectness...however - dh was the one who had to squeeze it in the car, and put it up and then take it down and get rid of it...and since he's the one who actually does the Christmas tree, he wants what is easier for him, which is fair enough! Helps that he grew up with a fake one...whereas I grew up with a real one and ohhhh that smell. Mmmmm...
FAKE: the real ones are too messy and invite too many crawlies into the house.
Can't handle the huge spiders that live in a real tree!
And I can pack up a fake tree by myself. I used to hate waiting weeks for DH to get rid of the dry old skeleton of a christmas tree out of the loungeroom.
fake it cost us $10 lol its my first christmas tree since living here last year we werent here for chrissy
Real here! Never had a real one till DH, initially we had the fake one, but then we found a Christmas tree farm where you could go and pick your own. Thankfully we found another farm down this way when we moved. So now it is a little Christmas ritual each year to go and pick the tree. Each year it is the same thing, me going one that the tree is too big and DH going ahead anyway. Then we get this HUGE tree, that he suddenly admits when we get it home that it was too big.
I have no issue with the mess. The only thing is that decorations need to have a string, rather than the small metal loop, other wise they cannot be hung.
we have a fake one only because i have to put up my tree by the 1st and i dont think it would last! and the thought of spiders ...... :o
Fake though we had a real one once
We always had a real one!
They were so funny most years...they never looked like the ones in the movies ...they would have 4 or 5 big branches and they would go brown within a couple of days but the smell was beautiful.
We now have a big fake one!
somone should invent christmas tree smell in a can  x
Fake for the last few years. Always used to have a real one, but I was over the mess and then having to get rid of it after Christmas.
Fake. I don't like the thought of killing perfect trees and I don't like that they turn brown anyway.
............. me too Tinks, wahhhh  ...... No ' real ' tree here as DP & i both get hayfever from real ones, soooo fake all the way in our home, LOL ;)
Mine cost me $80 on special from BigW about 15years ago, Xmas trees are heaps cheaper now then those days & much nicer ones you can get now too !!
We had real growing up, til we started getting hayfever
Fake in this house due to my hayfever and DH phobia of spiders and our combined laziness.
We actually dont have a tree yet, I am planning on getting a fibre optic one when I find one on sale
Fake. As a kids we had the real ones and I remember one yr my little brother cried when he realised the tree died so we had a real one but it was this tiny tiny sparce thing in a pot lol...was a bit ugly!
Some of you might be surprised to know that is it more environmentally friendly to have a real tree than a fake one. The tree gives good stuff to the atmosphere during its life and then gives itself back to the earth once we are finished with it. The fake ones pump a lot of CO2 into the air during the manufacturing process and then sit in landfill.
we have an artificial tree - as much as real trees are lovely, i find that pine smells give me mammoth migraines - i can only visit friends who have real trees for short periods of time. pine cleaners and candles do the same thing... sucks big time cos it smells so good - but it knocks me on my butt every time
fake - but I used to have a Norfolk Pine tree in a pot until xh decided it would be good in the garden and one of the neighbours cut the top off it for their own giftmas tree
when I move, I will have one in a pot again for my giftmas celebrations :)
Fake.
Ours is black, and we deck it all out in silver decorations... it looks pretty speccy actually.
Fake here, but we always had a real tree growing up.
Sometimes dad would go chop a massive eucalypt branch, stick it in a pot, and decorate that. Those were 'traditional Aussie Christmas' ' he would say, but I suspect it was because they were free ;) hehehehehe
It was doable as my parents put the tree up on Christmas Eve, so it barely got time to go brown before it was given back
Real here! We had a fake for many many years, but last year we had real... and I don't think we'll be going back to fake!
fake here so I can put it up early & take it down late, I put the tree up on the weekend of the Christmas parade & DF has a go at me every time, but my excuse it I have to clear the presents that Ive bought all year out of my wardrobe so I can start on next years present shopping :p
Good question. growing up mum always insisted on a real one, but you know it made such a mess! and now days if I had a real one (cut down like back in the old days) I'd have to answer to all the environmentalists :hide: explaining what Astrid said on how the fake ones make more CO2. I guess it would be nice to grow one in a pot but it wouldn't suit my garden... So I've got a fake 6ft thick green one :D
We have a fake one, but as kids we had a real one... You know I was only thinking about this the other day... I think I'd like to have a real one this year... should mention that to dh when I pick him up from work. I'm sure he's going to say no. Ours isn't up yet.
We had real growing up. I love the smell, but not the mess. I hadn't thought about the effect on hayfever sufferes - DH has ahyfever. Anyway, a real one wouldn't fit in the car and we don't have a trailer. I'll go get a fake. one
Teagz - a black one sounds cool - where did you get it?
I'm doing red and silver decorations this year, so that would work well.
Last year we got our first fake one ever, growing up & in our first 7 years of being married we'd go to the Christmas Tree Farm & cut our own down. Our problem was that it was getting too expensive at $40 a year when I could buy a nice $120 fake tree that will last 10 years.
I really do miss the smell though :(
As little kids we always had a fake one, then for a few years we did real, but its just too messy. When I moved out of home I went back to fake. I brought a new fake one last year and I'd like to think that it will last us for as long as we need a tree. I think I'd be divorced if I ever brought a new one ROFL. I did marry the Grinch though ;)
