I'm still trying to figure this one out. I've bought one for DS and used it for a while but he's not teething yet :D currently not using it as I'm trying a few things out to fix his dermatitis. DH wants info on how they work otherwise he's always asking if it can be taken off. (reminds me I should do that today)
I find them brilliant. Basically what happens is the heat in bub's skin (or an adult's, we can use them too) heats the amber & the oils are a natural pain killer, it has to be baltic amber though. Juliette has had panadol twice in her 19 months & that was for unrelated fevers & never for teething. Recently she got 4 back teeth all at the same time without making a peep.
YES! All through my DS's teething (he's nearly finished :leap: ) we have 'tested' the necklace to see if it really does make a difference - and I can tell you that it DOES for us!
He even asks to have it on now and when he's had it off for more than a day, he gets irritable and doesn't sleep as well.
We don't leave it on him at night (unless he asks to have it on), so he doesn't even get the benefit 24/7 - but it still really does work. I reckon for the $40 - $70 it costs, it's well worth it.
Just my opinion though ;)
YES!
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!
And one more... YES!
Jazz really suffered before we got one, non of this "oh look theres a tooth" business here. At the first hint of movement her wake-ups would be 5+ times a night, constant feeding, crying, clingy, and whingey. We got given an amber teething necklace in August and it hasn't come off since. Her night wakings dropped down dramtically, to the point where she was waking happily throughout the night, out of habit I think but not in pain or crying like before (another issue there- NCSS helped us out with that!). It took 24-48 hours to take effect but it was amazing once it did. Once we knew she was not in pain we were able to work on her sleep habits, and by the end of September she was sleeping in her cot in her own room, waking once a night, quick feed and then back to bed.
She also started cutting her eye teeth before Christmas, and has started sleeping through since Boxing Day! Since now and Boxing day one tooth has almost broken through the gums and the other is bulging but not broken. Looks SO ouchy but she's sleeping through!
We were without necklace at beginning of the week because the clasp broke and we were able to send it back to the company for a replacement. Monday night was okish, Jazz woke once (after sleeping through all, night every night since Christmas). Tuesday was TERRIBLE, clingy crying crewing on her fingers, drooling, just very cranky and irritable, and slept 20 minutes between 5am and 9pm. We ordered another necklace EXPRESS POST Tuesday night because we weren't sure when the replacement would come back (and now we have two so thats cool :) I'm wearing the spare doubled over on my wrist at the moment because I'm due for my period next week and I wasnt to see if it does anything for the cramps and headaches I get). Tuesday night she woke THREE TIMES and we extremely unsettled, difficult to put to sleep. Wednesday was exactly the same, Wednesday night she slept okish but we did the ibuprofen and paracetmol and teething :(:(:( Which I don't like doing.
We got the express posted necklace on Thursday morning, put it on her straight away, Thursday night was still pretty bad early on in the night but once she was asleep (about 8.30ish) she slept through until morning, but come Friday she was our happy camper again, slept almost 2 hours, ate like normal. Last night she had a late night (9pm) but was happy, slept right through until 6am. She's asleep right now, has been for an hour and will probably wake up in the next hour nice and happy and ready for lunch.
When she grows out of that necklace (it'll be a while, they are a realy good length) we'll get her a pretty grown up one. And next baby, we will not wait until 12 months to put an amber necklace on. 2 months I think they recommend, and thats what we'll be doing!!!!
We got/bought ours from Amberbebe for $40, excellent customer service and quality (I think the clasp issue was ours  but the have a lifetime warranty so they took it back and replaced it). An info sheet comes with it, plus a little bag and "Authenticity" certificate. They also have a 30-day money back guarentee if you aren't happy with it.
I'm buying one for my sister for her birthday, she gets bad migraines so I'm hoping she'll wear it 24/7 and they'll go away.
ETA: We only take Jazzy's necklace off during shower time. After shower time she gets into her pjs and it goes on her ankle overnight. When we dress her in the morning we put it around her neck. I'm way to scared to leave it off overnight! I think its a cumulative effect, so if they wear it all day, they should be ok at night, but if you take it off at night they may not be ok the next day ITMS. Thats our experience anyway, we have forgotten to put it on after the shower and she's slept ok, but the next day she was a terror tot!
im a very skeptical person, i have bought some for ds cost about 17 dollars and i cant explain it i dont know what it is but they are great they make a difference his teething seems reduced and he seems a lot less irritable.
the teeth just pop up i cant explain it so i wont try but they are working for me.
i swear it doesnt just do good things for teething it affects their whold behaviour DS gets irritable when his teeth are coming in with it but without it he just screams and screams and screams and he wakes up about 5 times a night when he normally sleeps through we only found this out coz it broke but i am going to get one for myself
OK so I'm going against the grain.....but not for us. My DS is TERRIBLE when he's getting a tooth and TBH it hasn't made a dent in any one symptom at all. He gets the whole gammut - the burning wee, the burning dribble, fevers, won't eat anything....he just got a bottom tooth and they've been the same symptoms as the first teeth he got without wearing it.
I got mine because of fantastic reviews (got mine the same place as Leasha), but it just hasn't worked for us.....looks cool though.
YES! It has worked liked a charm for us. I mainly got it as a last resort to stop DS biting me and it worked. I forgot to put it on him for a couple of days and he was grumpy and starting biting me again. So, yes, I do believe it works and they are worth the money. I bought mine from an ebay store for $25.
Okay, I'm sold! I just ordered one, hopefully it arrives quickly because we are in teething hell at the moment!
Thanks so much ladies x
yes, yes, yes & yes!
I'm going to get Pip another even though he's no longer teething, as he's a lot more settled when he wears it ...
Thanks so much for your feedback ladies. We got our necklace and have had it three days now and....... he's slept through every night since we got it!!!!! Turned out to be such a good investment
i will have to get one and try it out!
Wow I have never heard of this before? What do they look like? Are they heavy?
DS has cut his first tooth this week and poor thing his teeth do bother him. It is totally natural right?
Rach x
Glad to hear it worked for you hun. DD's works a treat too when her teeth are moving about.
Tippy toes - Not sure where the others got theres but we got ours from amber bebe online and they were SOO quick to get it to us. Totally natural, light and there are a few different colour options.
WooHoo! So glad it's working for you MissE :D
Am thinking of getting one for AR but she's not 'teething' as such yet - I don't think - just that she goes through these stages where she wakes often, crying hard & then is hard to settle. Could be teeth moving (not cutting)...
Leasha, you said it is recommended to put it on them at 2 mths? So it is ok to use it then if they aren't fully 'teething'?
Thanks Ellee I had look at their website. They look great! I am going to order the dark brown one for my DS. It is worth a try. Thanks for the tips everyone! Rach x
I got the multi coloured round bead one. Just incase we do have another baby, its a bit unisex. I liked the dark one though!!
Jasp. We didn't have ours that early. But DD wears hers all the time. I have been told it also helps with their immunity etc so it definately can't hurt them. Its also good so that bubs gets used to wearing it.
Yep, the info sheet I got from amberbebe said from 2 months :)
Here is something interesting: from blessedmaineherbs dot com
None of that is referenced, just straight from a site that sells baltic amber so it may be biased of course. I don't have to time to source anything right now, but its a starting point of what they believe succinic acid (baltic amber) does/can do, for anyone wanting to reserach it further.:
Baltic amber warms against the skin, releasing it's therapeutic properties safely and naturally. Its electrostatic properties are used for healing. It has long been respected as a natural ionizer and for its ability to produce negative ions which help to ease pain and stimulate the healing process. Baltic Amber is also known to provide protection from harmful radiation emitted from computers, cell phones, microwave ovens and electrical devices.
Amber is used to clear the chakras, to fill the body with vitality, alleviate stress, and is believed to help draw disease out of the body and encourage healing. Baltic amber is a natural analgesic and possesses anti-inflammatory properties, so is often used to ease joint pain. It also acts as a natural antibiotic and has a long history of use in healing wounds.
Succinic acid - Baltic amber has high concentrations of a unique substance known as succinic acid. This powerful antioxidant helps eliminate free radicals and discourages disruptions of the cardiac rhythm. Succinic acid has been shown to stimulate neural system recovery and bolster the immune system, it helps restore strength and energy to the entire body and enhances brain function, thereby improving awareness, concentration, reflexes, and reducing stress. Succinic acid is commercially produced, widely used and approved for use by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Baltic amber is naturally high in this substance, and is one of the most important natural sources of succinic acid in the world.
It is touted in Russia and other European countries for its youth preserving and cell rejuvenating properties. It is commonly used in anti-aging formulations and to aid recovery of cancer patients after undergoing standard medical therapies.
I got ours from amber bebe too. Quick question for those of you who have been using them for awhile...
I've been putting it on DS's ankle for naps and night time cos I want him to get maximum value from it, but it is a major PITA to take on and off. I know it says not to have it around their neck when they are unsupervised or sleeping, but it fits so well that he really hasn't noticed it's there (I haven't seen him touch it once) and I can't see it getting caught on anything when he is in bed (there's nothing for it to catch on, especially because I put it under his clothing). Does anyone leave it on around their neck when they're sleeping?
Miss E - DS has his on for his naps. I generally take it off for night time sleep but sometimes have forgotten and he's slept through with it on. DS has only had his a few months so he's a bit older though. I believe they are meant to break easily if they get caught and they are knotted between each bead so the child cannot swallow all the beads if it does break.
I intend to get one for my bub when the are getting teeth as I have seen many kids with them on over the last year and have asked there mums if they worked and they swore by them
We leave it on her during naps, but not at night. We take it off at bath/shower time and put it on her ankle after, and then when we get her dressed for the day we put it around her neck. I really don't think it has the strength to choke her, but she sleeps deeper at night so I feel better having it around her ankle JIC.
I take DS's off for naps and put it around his ankle - I cut up a little baby sock and use the 'tube' bit to cover it otherwise it falls off or he pulls it off
We have only had it for a few weeks, but the difference is VERY obvious!
I was about to put up a new thread but then saw this one.
did everybody get theirs from amber bebe or somewhere else? $40 is a lot for me at the moment so i thought id check
cheers, Pip
wow great reviews! I ordered one last week from a BB member and I'm so glad i did now i cant wait to get it :)
Pip I got mine from amberbebe, I was a bit like you, didn't want to spend the $40 if it wasn't going to work, have to say I'm happy with the investment though
We leave DS' necklace on all the time - only take it off to wash out bits of food
DS's broke a week ago... we've ordered another one, but it hasn't arrived yet.
Since he hasn't been wearing it - he's grizzly, drooling, chewing and waking several times a night (was sleeping right through 5 nights out of 7 before the necklace broke). Not his normal self at all!
We are completely convinced of it's value that I didn't even question paying the $40... I just wished I'd paid the extra few $$ for express delivery (not that it's overnight to country locations, but it might have been quicker!) :o
Well, after DS wearing his amber teething necklace for a couple of months, I can no safely say that it is definitely worth the investment. I discovered a new tooth this morning, and DS had not shown any signs of teething (apart from chomping on his fingers sometimes). I was a little skeptical, but now I am sold :).
hmmm, my posting thingy doesnt seem to be working??
I know Whiskers on Kittens has a special on their teething necklaces at the moment- they are $30 instead of $40. You just have to enter 'tooth' into the code box at checkout. I saw this on the facebook page they have.
I spent $40 but it was soooo worth the investment. I was skeptical too but now swear by it.
Just coming back to add my 2c...
We've had ours for a week today, previously DD2 was waking 4 - 5 times a night - I honestly didn't think it was all teeth, I thought it was just her - but on Fri, Sat Sun nights she woke twice, last two Mon & Tues) it has been once only ... definitely a hit here ;)
Kaleb also has one i loveeeee it!! i forgot to put it on the other night and we woke up but with it on he sleep through the night.
Just ordered a necklace for my DD. She is really cranky and clingy during the day, so hoping this does the trick x
OMG I want one! I am going through hell with DS sleeping, or not sleeping as the case may be!
I got one at the baby expo, cause I htink they are cute and I wanted to try one.
Ours came with a bracelet as well as the necklace so we have the bracelet on Lady P's ankle because its a little too big for her wrist just yet. We havent tried the necklace yet.
Well I was very sceptical as to the "power" these things have but on Monday she was rubbing her feet together and it came off. I didnt put it back on her and for the last three nights she has woken twice (after sleeping through for months) and has been really grouchy and clingy.
I only realised this morning that I hadnt put it back on her and the penny dropped.
It went straight back on and im looking forward to my happy sleeping baby again.
