I was thinking of starting a similar thread myself! Can I add to it... Where do you even get them from? Or which materials needed to make them?
Yes...have used them all along, I use then out and about, EVERYWERE.
I take them with me out dry and use a pump on foaming wash.
I have 'tried' disposable ones and I find I am so unco with them. I can use one cloth wipe to clean a number 2....I need 10 disposable wipes to do the same thing ROFL
I like cloth ones because they grip the poo and take it away were I find disposable ones wipe over it unless your pressing hard.
Ive actually heard of girls making their own disposable wipes and I cant for the life of my remember how they did it.
Any particular foaming washes Maz??? Do you have it in you bag?? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get my head around it.:
I have them in my nappy bag all the time hon and the foam wash I bought from Bubbly bliss on WAHMnaps. so easy to use really, its not as hard as people think
Yep I use them home and out and about. For faces, bums and hands :)
Dry and the foaming bum wipe stuff, or water at home :)
I find they work brilliantly, they just go into the wetbag when I have finished using them and I don't notice the extra in the wash.
I make mine mix of minkee oneside and flanelette the other, or microfleece/flanelette, I have some bamboo velour/flanelette but I find them grippier but a bit more coarse than the minkee, especially on the face. And I just overlock the edges together :) I am curious to try cotton velour and flanelette :D I also make them when folded in half they actually fit on one of the old disposible wipes containers!
Soooo much prettier than a disposible wipe too and they last forever!!!!!!
You can use cheap facewashers if you like or buy them from WAHM's, Nappy Sellers or make your own :D But most of the materials you can buy from Spotlight at a good price, just don't get microfibre, it will dry out the skin :D

For my little guys, I found the normal sized ones a bit awkward for all their bits and pieces, so I chopped them into quarters and overlocked them around the edges and I found that easier. I'm not good at folding the wipes to use the clean bits, and if I didn't fold it I'd just get mess everywhere...obviously I missed 'Bum wiping 101' and so the smaller wipes were good. :)
I agree that a bit of texture is good, all smooth cloth wipes are not always so grippy for the serious end of bottom cleaning.
I wet mine with a spray bottle of water.

Sorry folks, nothing helpful to contribute but I am taking all the info in as I feel like such a twit using disposable wipes with DS in cloth.

I take a water bottle with me and use that, as i take the wipes dry as well.
PMSL Nelle.....mine (like yourse) has just about gone to overlocker heaven :( I abused it way to much :ROFL:
I find them easy to use if it fan them out over my whole hand and use the whole thing to wipe the effected area ;) then fold the wipe in half and use one side to wipe again, fold it in half again and you should be right.

i was thinking of using one of DS's towels that got wrecked by the washing machine would that be ok? and maybe chop them a bit smaller as nelle suggested lol i didnt think of that one and good idea whoever it was to make them the size of the wipes container :)

When taking them out I dampen them and put them in a ziplock bag - dirty ones get wrapped with the nappy ...
towel would be perfect. Ive seen wipes made 20cm x 10cm so they lay in your hand better.:

coz i swear his rashes are from the wipes and they take ages to get rid of and it would be easier putting everything in the bucket instead of having to put wipes in the bin and then the nappy in the bucket
I had way too many face washers, so I use them and have a little tub of water on the change table(you know the tub huggies sell thir wipes in?) which I dip the washer in before I use it. If they have poo chunks Ill take it to the laundry with the poo nappy and give it a rinse before chucking in the bucket, then it just goes in the wash with the nappies. No hassle as it is no extra washing.
For out and about I have sposie wipes, but after all the ideas in this thread Im going to start using cloth as Ive been wondering about this for ages!
we have old towels chopped up and some bamboo ones and a flannelet sheet chopped up. Last night i spent 3 hours chopping up and sewing 8 baby wipes from flannelet i bought it for 3 bucks a meter. and sewed a pretty pattern on it. these are for baby might need some more tho IYKWIM.
oh and we have a squirt sauce bottle filled with water at home to wet wipes and take then everywhere dry and wet when needed via tap. Even daycare uses them.
Maz saw ur photo on face book and took my machine outside to sew lol.
I use small face washers that I bought from Nature's Child, they are soft/smooth on one side and rough/textured on the other. I wet them and put them in a zip lock bag or plastic container for outings. At home, I just wet them under the tap before I change his nappy, and they get thrown in the nappy bucket after use.
I have done this since the birth of DD, so I estimate that I have saved hundreds of dollars! (I don't know where it is though!):D

Haha, yep its all rainbows, unicorns and lollipops before they arrive, then reality... Spew, wee, POO CHUNKS! But thats not even untill they are on solids, you will get amazing poo slop up untill 6 months :D Fun! (Sorry to hijack;))
I Take dry ones out with me and wet them via a tap before use. At home, i just wet when needed. I used to pre wet them when bub was little but i found that if i didnt use them they would start to smell a little cause they were damp for so long.

I use "Big softie" brand face washers - i think you get them from Big W - and they're very cheap. I take them every where, out and about and just wet with a tap or a water bottle and then into the wet bag when used. At home my b'room is really close to DDs room so I just wet them under the tap when I need to use one, then I rinse them off if needed and then into the bucket.

I got a "hot water carafe" on the change table at home (extravagant I know) but DH fills it with warm water in the morning and DD get a warm bum wipe all day!! Pop the washer in the plastic bowl and pour a bit of water in and your set to go.
For out and about just keep a small water bottle in the change bag - those ones they give you on airplanes are a great size or the kids poptops juice things are great and you can pop it open, squirt some water out and off you go - but they can leak occasionally if you don't keep them upright so a screw on lid is better.
I had thought that cloth wipes were too hard when I was out, but this thread has given me great ideas.
And I just bought a great big box of disposable wipes today :doh:
I keep meaning to make up some wipes. I'm just using the Aldi brand at the moment. i heard you can just use those soft face cloths -- Baby Bunting sell a 10 pack for about $5. Also those using water bottles you can buy mini water bottles from Chemist Warehouse for about $3 which would be useful for a nappy bag/travel system. Hope that helps.

I love this stuff and have just ordered more and some for sil and a preggy friend. I use the spunky butts wipes which i love as well. depending on how full my nappy bag is then admittedly i use throw away wipes when i am out but only cloth wipes, bubbly bliss and water touch her bum at home.:

I brought some baby washers from Kmart and a wash from the chemist (one I know won't irriatate DD's skin). And so far we are going really well with these. I think i've even got the cloth wipes out and about down pat now! :dance:
