May09 M/C got thyroid finally PG but low Hcg 76

Hi,

I had my M/C in May09. Then I got diagnosed with Thyroid. I have been trying since Aug09. Finally, got a slight BFP this week. When I went to GP, she told me my Thyroid was playing up, so have increased dosage. The worrying thing is that I am not sure what my cycle was like. Now when I got the Hcg result, it was just 76....which is quite low. So am really tensed up at the moment. GP has advised another test around the end of next week. :pray: Hope it goes up. I am just guessing that I am still under 4 weeks...but then how can my HPT detect hcg so early.:doh:

I think it is picking up.....hoping for the best:pray::crossfingers:

I am going for my 2nd hcg test tomorrow. Hoping for it to be in the desired level so I can go for a scan and find out what's going on in there.:) Just wondering is it normal to have discharge during a healthy pregnancy? Is not having MS a sign of something not right? I am just getting paranoid thinking of all the bad things that could happen.:doh:

to be totally honest, a level of 76 before you are 4 weeks pg is actually pretty good! some of the girls on here have had them as low as 26 and have gone on to have healthy babies!

my fingers are :fingerscrossed: that the levels are looking awesome for your next test...but sounds like you are travelling along well.

as for the discharge...totally normal in pregnancy. in fact you will find that you have (and sorry for the TMI) heaps heaps more lol.

:hug: sweet. it's so hard after experiencing a loss to feel calm with subsequent pregnancies, so do whatever you must to feel safe and secure. if the the HCG tests offer that security then go for it! for me, it was scans!

Thanks Cassius.:) Well my dates are a bit off so the GP told me after seeing my hcg at 76 that I am still under 4 weeks....so not really sure where I am at, as of now. Just guesstimating:rolleyes:. I am waiting for it to be above the 1000 mark so I can get a dating scan done.
Thanks for the reassuring words. I am hoping for the best:crossfingers:. The good thing I noticed is that my HPT results are getting darker every time I do them [yes I am crazy enough to do those every 3 days just to reassure myself:)]

ha ha! i do the same thing...testing every couple of days lol! DH thinks i am mad...but for me it is so reassuring.

GSB - it all sounds very positive, try not to stress to much as that is not what your body needs.

I had a MC first time we concieved, next cycle i was unsuccessful, third cycle was successful and everything has been perfectly fine. Funny thing was that i was stressing so much and getting myself so worked up as i really wanted to start a family and was so ready for it (as im sure everyone on here knows the feeling!), and i found the more i worked myself up over it, the more nothing happened. Then i finally told myself to settle down, and i didnt stress so much, just thought it will happen when it happens - then sure enough next cycle it did! I did not even worry myself sick about losing another baby due to MC as i just told myself this it it - and now i am 28weeks along :).

Dont stress yourself silly, just go with the flow and enjoy every day of it - even the bad days lol.

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. Cassius already gave you the heads up re the HCG level. Yes you can still have discharge during a healthy preg. I am now 10 weeks and had discharge at 6 weeks and 6 days with large clots and then again at 10 weeks and 2 days ( yes, last night and this morning). I have not ever had early early bleeding. My ob says for some women, and some of them are on BB, they bled throughout preg and ended up hold and healthy baby in their arms. It has never been that way for me, bleeding usually heralds the end, but so far so good in this pg. Just remember, every pg is different, very different from the others. We just suffer through the comparisons between them because we are so scared. BTW - I don't think you're paranoid. The fear is soooooo totally understandable. For me, the fear was worse early on than it is now, except that I am absoltely petrified when I see the blood, but I can't maintain that level of anxeity anymore. I could in the early days though. I was like you testing madly, except I was possessed and doing it morning and night some days. Again just for that reassurance. When I went to the GP all I wanted was them to confirm the pg by their urine test, and after that, it was real. You know? It wasn't just me being crazy and imagining that BFP, which actally was quite faint. Now? now I worry because the m/s has eased and it's only once a day usually that I feel nauseaous. When I do at first I am soooo excited, but if it goes on for hours it gets tiresome. Today my boobs hurt, and it really helped pick me up from the fear I had about the bleed. In all honesty, this pg, I have been much more fearful about everything.

I hope that you can soon move beyond the fear and start to enjoy your pg a little, but if not? You'll find a way to manage and get through. How were those levels at your next test?

Well my GP called today and told me that my level is at 3000 now, which was such a relief. :dance: So I am going to go for the dating scan on Thursday. As for the paranoia..... it's still there:redface:. But I am realising that it doesn't help to fixate on it so am planning on getting myself busy with my studies now.

BTW, what happens in a dating scan? Also I do not want an internal U/S, especially at this early stage, because of my last experience. So will they be able to see anything with external u/s?

GSB - from what I understand, a dating scan is done transvaginally ( internally) as bubs is so tiny that an external u/s doesn't give the level of detail needed. Usually some measurements are taken by measuring on the u/s screen to give an estimate of dates. The cervix and uterus area will be assessed, but on the u/s screen.

Apart from that? It's your chance to ask as many questions as you need to get reassurance and get your first look at bubs, a little precious blob with a little yoke sac still visible and with the heart beat discernable on u/s. I don't know if you can hear the heartbeat at this early stage, but hopefully you can see it. I didn't get to hear the heartbeat of this little chicken ( I went at 6 weeks 6 days). Maybe your blood pressure might be taken too? If it is your ob doing the scan? If it's at an u/s place, then not much extra will occur.

I've had three of them and each one has been transvag. But ask before the test if it can be done externally. Maybe even call now so you can make an informed decision before you are at the scan?

i too was under the impression that dating scan was done trans...but i reckon if you voice your concerns to the centre (mention previous trauma etc) they might be able to walk you through it or offer an external. the only thing is that even with a trans it can be really hard to pick much up. at this stage (5-7 weeks) there might not be much to see (maybe a fetal pole/yolk sack...there might not be a heartbeat at this stage), but as long as you are aware of that and that the sonographer can go through with that for you you will be fine! some girls like to go at 5-6 weeks and then a follow-up at 9 weeks just so they can get a glimpse of the heartbeat for extra reassurance.

Thanks Dory and Cassius. I'll be going to the hospital imaging for the scan. My OB doesn't see me till end of March. Actually last time what had happened was that I miscarried the day after I had the internal scan, so just one of those scary memories I guess. But I feel the need to know that everything is going well outweighs the fear...so I have decided to go with it.

Well, it's D-day tomorrow.....so fingers crossed for that and hoping for the best.

Thanks Cassius and Dory. Well I had the U/S and it had to be internal as we couldn't see much with the external one. I am 6 weeks today:dance: and we saw the heartbeat as well at 105bpm which the lady there said was good at this stage:leap::loveshower:.

I am so over the moon at the moment. Now I guess I am just waiting for the dreaded 8weeks to get over to feel safe:pray:. We have decided not to tell anyone till the first trimester ends.

GSB - Awesome.

I know its hard, but instead of cautiously happy, just go all out and be happy. You have a bub! Relish this preg, in this moment. It is a blessing, as you know. If you can try not to let fear hobble you. I know its hard, I seem just to be having a positive day, where I can feel the happiness and not the fear, and it's wonderful.

I have passed one vodoo date and have a few still to come, but whilst I know I will be anxious, I know I will also be anxious until I am holding a bubs who has made it. I don't want to look back and think that if that happens, this pg was just misery for me, waiting for something unhappy to happen?

Right now I am truly blessed and I want to give bubs as much love as I can. It might just be me and my eccentric coping style, but it's mostly working for me. If it could work for you, it would be another blessing.

I have started having MS and have literally been bedridden for last couple of days due to extreme tiredness....but it all feels good.:)

GSB - I am sooooo happy for you. I am sorry tht you are tired, but that's a good sign and evern better that you are taking it easy. But i reckon you don't have much a of a choice? That early pg tiredness is pretty compelling and overwhelming.

Summer24 - good luck with your pg. Good to hear that things are going well after a bumpy start. I agree stress doesn't help.

AFM - well a sort of milestone reached for me today. 12 weeks, only 28 to go! Not really a significant date for me in my journey, but statistically important. It's good to have reached it anyway. I have had a mild bout of gastro this week and am feeling better again. Phew! Not nice, even though I wasn't that sick. I would way prefer the type of M/S I get than gastro. At least I still have an appetite with M/S!

Cheris all the milestones you reach! I cherised every day and every week, especially reaching 12 weeks, then 20 weeks etc.

Just remember - positive thinking is best in life - negative thinking only manifests horrible things - and you dont want horrible things to happen.
Just keep thinking to yourself and putting it out there "that i AM going to give birth to a happy healthy baby"!

Summer - Thanks for your advice. :) I know that I should be like that, but it's getting a bit difficult nowadays as last time these days were the ones when I started spotting. I am trying really hard to stay positive after every ache and pain though.

Just wanted to ask something.....is it normal to have pain in leg during PG? And does MS change every day....I had just been throwing up all my food till the last 2 days but today it's just dry retching...is this normal[sorry for TMI]?

yep and yep! the leg thingy i get too. i always have put it down to the moving bits and bobs hitting against nerves etc causing achey legs or the sharp pains. but it can also be all the relaxin hormone that is being released (to loosen up muscles and the pelvis so bubba can fit through during labour).

the m/s thing is a constantly changing feast. some days i am flat out like a pancake over the toilet then other days i am 100% super dooper, then a few days dry retching...this time i had a whole week of feeling fine then BAM it comes back again :doh: LOL!

I am with Cassius2 - M/S is a moving feast! You're miserable when you're sick and worried when you're not. Mine has eased, which initially worried me, but is more of a relief now to be through the worst of it. It's only realy mild infrequent nausea now

I get all sorts of weird aches and pains which I put down to the relaxin causing all the tendons and ligaments to loosen. I get very sore hips and restless legs. In the past i have had severe cramping in my calves, but so far so good!

Thanks Cassius and Dory. Sorry for MIA but I have been grounded by severe M/S. Nowadays it's difficult to imagine that I can ever eat something without throwing up. But it's good in a way.....sort of reassuring. For me this week has some bad memories from the past, so am still nervous.

I am looking forward to my first appointment with my OB next week. By the way, do you have any suggestions for controlling M/S or reducing it a bit? I seem to have lost a bit of weight as well due to all the throwing up....will it affect the baby?

GSB - you poor little blossom! From what I have heard the vomitting itself is ok, even though you feel revolting and miserable, bubs will take what they need from you and you are the one who will miss out!

It's more that you have to really worry about dehydration for both you and bubs. If you are not keeping anything, food or fluid, down call your GP or go to your local hospital asap.

Hope you get through this tough time. It can be hard huh?

I am going in for a cervical stitch this Thursday. Day surgery under general anaesthetic. I will be 14 weeks by then, amazing to think I have come so far but still so far to go. I bet you know that feeling! I am a bit nervous, but more nervous about what will happen if I don't have it done. There are risks either way really. DH is happy enough - he get some days off work to be my carer. Lucky him!

Let me know how your ob appointment goes. I am excited for you too.

GSB - Here are some of the things that have helped me with both MS nausea and nausea generally:-

cold water
peppermint tea
peppermints
potato chips - crips or hot chips
smaller meals
gatorade
gastrolyte
travel calm ginger tablets
ginger nut biscuits
gingerale/lemonade
gingerbeer
rice
sometimes icecream
sometimes soy chai latte with soy - but I think that might have been the sugar, as low blood sugar and fatigue contribute.

For me sleep generally seems to work. Not always, but at least for the time I am asleep, I am not aware of the nausea, so there is some relief.

I also found that blackmores morning sickness formula ( giner and vit b12) helped me. About $14 from the chemist, and you take it 3 times a day. It often took the edge off. Presuming you can keep it down.

Some people get the sea grass acupressure bands and some people have accupuncture. I had accupucnture scheduled on some of the days I ended up ( by coincidence) feeling the most nauseated and wretched. Not sure if it helped me or not but some people get relief from it.

Alternatively you could talk to your doctor for maxalon. It is prescribed for some women with severe morning sickness. From memory it's on the list that is classified safe for pregnancy, but if you're not sure, do your own research.

Thanks for your advice Dory. :) Potatoes are working for me...seems like they are the only things I could stomach during the worst M/S time. Now the M/S has subsided so am keeping food down. Also am keeping to my bed most of the time as I feel nauseous when I move around too much. My GP has prescribed Maxolon but I am a bit wary of taking any medication this time.

I had a bit of a scare this week with brown mucus one day. But since then it's been going all normal. :crossfingers: I have to see the OB on friday so just hoping for the best nowadays.:pray: I keep reminding myself to be positive.

A bit of a scare is not nice is it? Better than a big scare, but any scare just takes away any positivity and hope that you manage to build up. Don't forget to mention it to your ob, just so they know. Unless it continues they are not likely to be too worried about it.

Are you excited about your ob visit? Hopefully you won't be too sick that day? Maybe you could take 1/2 a maxalon that day?

I hear you about not taking it. I had it prescribed before pregnancy and used it when needed, it works miracles for me. But during pregnancy? I took 1/2 a tablet once ( and I feel guilty about that!). Apart from that I just wanted to stick it out and was fearful of possible consequences for bubs. So I hear you loud and clear. You will do what is right for you.

Dory - So how did the procedure go? How are you feeling now?

I liked the OB on the whole. Understandably, he couldn't say much at this stage about the viability. So am waiting for my 12week scan so I can know what's going on inside.:) By the way, is it normal to have a bit of odd pains in the vagina and lower abdomen during PG. I asked the OB too, he said as long as there is no bleeding I shouldn't worry...but normally there should not be any pain in vagina.... so am a bit on tenterhooks nowadays whenever it pains there. Am still resting a lot.:D

GSB - how are you doing? Are you still bedridden? Hope the M/S has improved or that at least you are working out ways to manage it. It's tough to say the least.

i'd hazard that the pains you are feeling are all the bumping and stretching going on. there is a big growth development at that 9 week mark and there is sooo much moving around down there. sometimes i get sharp stabbing pains in the lower ab and it can radiated down either through the vagina or down the inner thigh ITMS.

hope you are travelling along ok, and that the m/s is being gentle on you!

Cassius - if its ok to ask, can I ask you about your PND, when you first became worried about how you were feeling and what you were feeling and your journey to make it through?

GSB - cassius is a wealth of info, isn't she? I find the pain that radiates into the vagina the most disconcerting and uncomfortable. I also get pains in each of my hips, but I know from the feel of it, its the ligaments and tendons relaxing. Its not an oesteo type of pain. So all that sport and injuries did come in handy for something - I do know how parts of my body work and feel, But not all! I also get pains in the lower abdomen on the sides, if I get up too quickly or move too quickly. Again, just part of the expanding and relaxing process.

I've been following without posting - Congrats on the heartbeat and here's to a H & H pregnancy :)

Thanks Cassius and Dory and Liz. You always put my worries to rest:). Although sometimes I wonder at what stage of my PG will I be totally be free of worry. My M/S has gone down substantially, limited to just nausea sometimes in evening and night with the vomiting in the morning. One of my aunts has come over to look after me, which has been a blessing as we keep chatting all day and I am on complete rest. I have decided to take a break from my job and study as I want the best chance for this PG. I am not planning or dreaming ahead, but am taking each day as it comes.... maybe this will change after a few more weeks have passed.

I also keep getting this pain in my inner leg and I read that it helps to lie down on the other side and if standing to shift your weight to the other leg. It's working a bit for me.

GSB - I have to say from my own experience, it's all worry, it's just a matter of degree and how you manage it. (but having said that I've never yet made it to the finish line, but this time will be different). The things that you worry about change and you get used to dealing with some of the worries. I know its hard to be happy and to dream and hope. We each have to find our own way and some people need to protect themselves from what they perceive as potential for hurt.

For me, a turning point came in my pregnancy with Amelia when I got to 8 weeks. I realised that I could spend the rest of my life worrying about this child and not enjoy the moment ( my brother had just been in a near fatal accident and I watched my mother worry over him in ICU).

I also thought, whether I have today or alifetime, I want to look back and have enjoyed this pregnancy and been thankful for it. I have used that same approach since. I am not always great at putting into effect 1005 of the time. But what it gives me, is a greater opportunity to be thankful for what I have, which means, more often than not, I enjoy this pregnancy.

In reality, how I think about things and try to peerceive them is the only thing I really have control over.

I also think I would hurt just as much if not more if I tried to protect myself by not loving my pregnancy and bubba.

In the end, I've never made it to holding my healthy and term baby, but by and large I have given myself permission to love each pregnancy and baby and to hold their preciousness close to my heart.

It helps me, but may not work for everyone.

One of my friends daugthers had 4 m/c interspersed by healthy bubbas, and for her last bubba, she couldn't even look at the screen during ultra sounds and basically ignored that she was pregnant. That was a tough pregnancy for her and that was her way to manage.

As I said we each find our own way. My way is a bit zen and does take a lot of work. It does probably make me seem a little bit "polly anna" and maybe "emotionally simple" to some. It's not, its hard, but its a conscious choice I make.

Me and DH are pretty excited about it, though I couldn't sleep last night thinking of all possible things that could go wrong :redface:. But so far so good :pray:. How are things going with you?

GSB - I understand how you feel. Only one of my scans has been totally devastating with news I didn't expect and still this time around, I was like you , scared about just about everything, even things that haven't been in my experience before and having bad dreams. It was a relief to get to the scan and get through the first few moments. So good luck girl.

Things are remarkably good here. 16 weeks and some today ( depends on which due date I use) and am feeling pretty good physically and emotionally. I still have rough days, but that's to be expected. I have a really understanding and accommodating obstetrician, who I am seeing for scheduled appointments every two weeks and reassurance appointments whenever I want.
