this is why we use water and facewashers :)
Juliette has extremely sensitive skin & I can only use the Huggies newborn wipes on her. There weren't any one day & I thought it would be okay to try them... Nope, after 24hrs her bottom was bleeding from the chemicals in thm :(
Speaking of baby wipes i once bought a packet of sensitive baby wipes to wash make up off my face and it burnt my face. I was shocked.
Baby wipes are brilliant for cleaning leather lounges and shoes & also cleaning carpet. Scary huh?
Also brilliant for cleaning tomato stains off white hight chair trays when hot soapy water doesn't :o
Hahaha I have posted that exact statement many a time in here!!! If I can get pen out of a sofa.... definitely not good for a newborns skin.
huggies wipes were in my handbag to spot clean my wedding dress on the day if I got any marks on it. LOL.
me too Liz, I used baby wipes to get red lipstick of my wedding dress - worked perfectly
I use them all the time to spot clean my rug!
lol I keep a packet in my cleaning kit in the laundry.....not for bottoms.
In the fashion industry they use baby wipes to get marks and makeup off the clothing!!

Yep - babies bottoms (and their sensitive genetalia region) are no place for the toxic ingredients in commercial baby wipes. The bigger the brand the worse they tend to be.
Its a catch 22 - they can cause inflamed skin and rashes - so then you need to buy some of their toxin-filled nappy rash cream.
Go cloth and save $$ and chemicals!! :p Natures Child organic cotton cloth wipes are good - very soft. And their organic Bottom Balm is divine - I use it on my lips! :dance:
Wow, so I'm being a good mum rather than a skinflint for buying some flannels for the cost of a packet of wipes and using those over and over!
I used cotton wool balls when DS was a baby, then flannels with warm water when there wasn't an issue with more flannels than nappies in the bucket.
yep i used them yesterday to clean my kitchen cupboards :redface:
I use them to wipe down kitchen benches too.
I also use them sometimes as facial wipes when I run out of my usual ones. No problems. I'm a tough nut though :)
they get biro pen off just about anything!! i have them in my nappy bag just in case but use chucks cloths and water at home. :)
DH and lots of the army guys use them to remove cam paint, which is thick and get on everything.

Hit me with some 'good' wipes I can buy at Woolworths/Big W, ladies - I'm in the market for some new brands of bum-wipes!
The Gaia ones are ok, they have organic ingredients and just some chemicals to keep them moist I believe. I use them on my DS for poo, he has sensitive skin and he's never had nappy rash with these. Still use cotton wool and water for everything else.:
They're around the same price as huggies, but not at all Woolies i have noticed.
DH use's them on pretty much EVERYTHING. Drives me insane but does the same job as the bathroom wipes we have.. if not better.
DS doesn't need wipes anymore. We have a packet under the change table along with a whole heap of cloth ones hoping to never have to use them :)

I give them to the Man to clean auto grease off himself if he doesn't have time for a shower before going out. So funny to watch. But kind of scary at the same time. :o
Great timing for this thread - I was actually going to ask about what alternatives others use as I've been looking into wipes and can't believe how much junk is in them (even the sensitive ones). Both DH and I have sensitive skin, so I know there's a good chance bub will too.
I was just going to go with chux and water - does it have to be warm water though? I'll save the baby wipes for cleaning then!
hehe i only use wipes when i'm out of the house, and even then, i wet a paper towel to wipe the chemicals off. even baby shampoos etc are pretty lethal, all the same kind of thing. sodium lauryl sulphate etc.
It's insane isn't it?! I tried explaining it to some friends of mine and they were just 'well they are made for babies' :o Just because they are made for babies doesn't mean they are good for them! I've read the packet of the wipes and the amount of crap in them is sickening. Brendan used to suck on them when he was little (distraction for nappy changes) and it got me thinking about it and the wipes I had at the time had alcohol in them :o
I'm disgusted by not only baby wipes, but lots of baby things. So many products have things in them that babies shouldn't have (a lot of jarred food and snacks have peanuts in them!) I definitely read labels now.
I use cloth wipes and water (or bubblebubs foamy wipes wash mmm )
Awesome thread! Thanks to all the comments I just tried a wipe out on the kids paint on our leather couch and it came out!! I've tried EVERYTHING to get it off, who would have thought a baby wipe would :rofl:.

I use them to clean the leather lounge! So I buy the nice smelling ones just for it!

donna - i buy coles baby wipes in the blue packet theyre the only ones that dont leave DD with a rash (the huggies ones smell really chemically and are really wet and therefore give her a rash)

I used cloth wipes until dd was eating more solids...I just couldn't get the stains off her bum with just water. So for those with older babes, what do you add to the water?
Donna, I use the Little Angel wipes from Big W- about$15 for a box of 480- then rinse them thoroughlu under wtaer before i use them. Stops the kids getting nappy rash, and is a nice half way mark with chemicals :) (yep, I am so lazy. My only problem with flannels is keeping the food ones seperate from the poo ones).
hmm - chucking the packet MIL bought me... along with the talc powder. She bought me a glass baby bottle though! :D
i wouldnt chuck them entreat...they are handy for your nappy bag even if u wont use them at home
