Just wondering how many have opted for pink walls for a girl's room? What sort of colour scheme did you go with and how important was choosing the *exact* shade of pink in getting the look you wanted. How flexible did you find the colour (have you been able to change the soft furnishings without having to repaint)...any other recommendations for painting with pink?
Or...for those who have avoided the pink, is it totally a crime against a female child to subject her to a pink room :lol: ??
My DD1 has pink and purple walls...the pink is called gin pink and is the colour of musk lollies :D
DD2 has a green room...the colour of peppermint icecream with amazing wallpaper butterflies on it.
We painted DD2's room when i was still pregnant so thats the reason for green.
I had pretty pink walls when i was little and there nothing wrong with me ;) so I keep telling ppl anyways :ROFL:
I feel ripped off for never having had a pink room as a little girl! It is a sin to deny your daughters the right to live in a girly wonderland ;)
Sorry, no advice as I have no experience (my room was a drab blue-grey, same as every other room in the house :( ), but good luck finding the perfect shade for your DD :D
oh how awesome :) Once we buy we will be painting DD's room and more than likley a pink. I like the softer/lighter pinks best :) Would look devine with all white furniture :)
I say go for it! If we owned DD would demand a red wall, a white wall and 2 walls with thick black and white stripes. I think one colour would be heaps easier LOL!
Depends on your daughter - I would have died if my parents painted my room pink! However I was (and still am) the most non-girly-girl that I know...
If I had a DD I'd talk to her about what she liked - I'd prefer hot pink myself, I detest baby-girl-pink...
I had little bits of pink in my room, but when we had people staying I was to sleep in my sister's room so the pink was minimal. I finally got some pink at 18, when we moved house. Mum hated the bed linen and curtains I'd bought for my room though, and changed it to beige when she re-decorated. We had a pink carpet when I was very young and Sis and I shared a room.
DS has a room that has a beige carpet, his walls are white with silver stars, and there's a blue transport border around. He has jungle/zoo/Noah's Ark on his bed. If we had a girl, it would be the same except she'd probably have a pink, flowery border. We're thinking more of resaleability of the house.
When DD picked her room colours, she was not into pink at all (or purple for that matter) but the colours she ended up choosing was a colour called Pink Linen.. and it looks more like the light purple background on bellybelly, just a few shades lighter
We ended up going 3 walls with the "Pink" and a feature wall that is a dark purple, think it is called purple rain. It is an outside wall, with a window, so the dark colour doesn't have a huge influence upon the other walls if that makes sense??
We finished the window off with a timber blind, and some curtains that have sparklie bits all over them and alternated the colours between a greeny/aqua colour and a light purple. Not the best description sorry.
Anyway, my point is, if you want to do a pink, you could something that is a few shades different and looks nothing like PINK IYKWIM.. Break everything up with white is nice too. And find a totally different colour (like our aqua curtains on a purple wall) to add to the window that will still complement the wall colour/s.
I'm a HUGE fan of sample pots too. Spread as much as you can so you get a good idea. We let DD pick out 4 or 5 sample colours, and when we slapped them on the wall, one colour she absolutely had her heart set on, she hated as soon as it was on the wall. The colour i picked, which she didn't approve of when i asked for the sample, is one of the colours in her room now. ;)

I am against painting a room either Pink or blue for girl or boy......It only means you have to change it when they get older and are over it!!! I just think it's easier to decorate with 'things'.
With DS we kept the room in neutral colours and painted on some canvases our decorations.
We live OS and are coming home to have baby #2 (a pink one :)) and the room she is going to be in has a beautiful pink (it's kind of a modern funky colour!) feature wall....it's called Aubergine (Dulux colour)....but that isn't my house! I plan on going out and getting some of those stickers that peel off to decorate her room.
Great idea, Minimax. My mum does that with her house: DS's room is all yellows and creams, but has a couple of Lightning McQueen canvasses up and a big steam train tapestry too. That way, if she needs to use it as a guest room when we're not there (which is most of the time LOL) she just changes the pictures.
I asked mini me and she demanded pink...what's a mum to do :dunno:
the only thing we have changed since is that she now has a matching fuscia pink blind and white butterfly curtains to match the pink and purple butterfly wall stickers.

Its only paint....you can easily paint over it when she's older and if it makes her happy I say go for it.
DD has one wall in a strawberry milkshake type pink with all white furniture and white photo frames and mirror on the pink wall. I've had lots of positive comments - one person commented on how calming the room feels.
She has hot pink sheets on her bed with a green/white spotted quilt cover and I love the combination (and I never thought I'd do the pink thing at all if I had a girl) I don't think there's many colours that wouldn't go well with the wall, actually.
When she's old enough to request a change, that's ok too. It's only one wall.
DD is almost 9 and we painted her room pink last Christmas. She loves it and loves having her friends over to show off her pink room! We actually bought a 4 litre misstint from the paint factory, perfect and cheap!!
The lady also gave us a tip, if you need to undercoat, just buy paint in a lighter colour than the coulour you are going to paint, so we bought a very light pink from the misstints too :) All up, the paint cost us $20!
DD1 just painted her wall hot pink!! She 18 and pink is still her favourite colour as is DD2s so I am happy for them to have pink rooms if thats what they want. We have rented for most of their lives so this is the 1st time we have let them choose their colour schemes.
ooohhh i am loving this thread! i have visions of painting the wall around DDs fireplace a dusty pink...but wasnt sure if i was going a bit OTT lol! the room needs some colour, even though we have a gorgeous and massive tree wall sticker thingy, there is still something missing in terms of depth for the room...and i do like dusty pinks etc...and well, DD is a pink fiend....
yeah gotta say i'm a big fan of the dusty pink too...
if i had a girl, she'd be having either a dusty pink or rasberry red room.
Maz, that's the shade my sister was going to paint one of the walls if she was baking a girl. i am thinking i might make a hot pink wall for DD's room. Another wall is going to be orange with an indian wall hanging as a feature. One day I will get paint.........:
I think the canvases is a good idea. I want to make a pixie mural with fairy lights in.

We are going to go a single shade of pink - softer - but broken up with non-pink soft-furnishings and accents in a cherry/raspberry red. We have an extremely beige carpet and the room is the darkest in the house (small window & faces south) so wanting to pick it up with some colour without having a really rigid colour-scheme. Also finding the right shade to bring out the colour without the room looking too dark is important. Have DH out this afternoon for a couple of sample pots. How exciting!!!
Mrsmac, like you we have spent a lot of time in rented houses (with varying degrees of mind-numbing neutrals) so yeah, craving the colour here too.
FWIW this is only step 1 in the bedroom reno thing... DD1 will be next, going to Ikea-ise her entire room and suspect that a much stronger colour scheme will be involved :lol:.
I have the same colour feature wall as Maz in Nina's room. Hers is a huge room, with white tiles, white walls and white furniture. I have added other colour by putting up paintings that the girls have done on 3 large canvasses.
I love colour but I think I've been converted to the idea of a fairly neutral colour scheme for walls and carpet which you can then tart up with canvases, rugs, bed linen. Plus I don't like to go from room to room and be bombarded by a different colour scheme in each.
So I've done both mine and DD's room with soft green walls and brown carpet. Pinks, reds, purples all look good against this.
It took me 14 years to decide what colour walls/carpet I wanted so I was hesitant to choose something too bold as I knew it could be another 14 years to be bothered to change it!
Child Elder had a pink room at my old house. She wanted it hot pink but we overrode her and it was painted a very pale dusky pink with one wall in a more vibrant pink, and all her furniture is white. Her current room is a pale beige, but she can go pink again when we move later this year. We don't plan on staying at our current house more than about 18 months.
All of her stuff is either pink or white so her room looked kind of like an explosion in princess factory. She's actually got rid of all her toys and trinkets that aren't pink or white or crystal (transparent), which is weird, but normal for her, so her room looks seriously like a magazine room with perfectly matched toys instead of a real kid's room. Her little sister, surprise surprise, literally doesn't have a single pink or white toy. Her room is butter yellow and pale green with timber furniture and most of her toys seem to be brown - pretty standard for teddybears :)
Edit: forgot she convinced someone to buy her a large sparkly pink deep shag pile rug so not even the floor has escaped the pinkness
