I actually live in Springvale the suburb next to Noble park so can share a fair bit of knowledge with you about the area. Are you thinking of moving up this way for a while or will you be staying with someone near the city. On the train it's about 45 - 50 minutes into the city, faster if you get on an express. I am only 1 train station away and travelled by train every day for a couple of years. Ummm. if you are driving it can vary on the monash but looking at roughly the same time. Some days less some days more.
Message me any time, if you want to know anything more. It is not a very safe suburb. In saying that there are really great pockets like any suburb. Springvale as an notoriously bad reputation but I actually live in a really safe pocket and we have no crime and a massive park at the end of our street, as we are on the outskirts I guess.

No i dont think i would move there, i was thinking about staying in the city and travelling to and from each day that the course is run.
i *thought* that it was a bad-ish area but wasnt 100% sure...
I lived in Noble Park for 6 years.... when we lived there is was quite safe (well except when "mad max" when on his shooting rampage in the early eighties) we moved not longer after that happened...my grandpa still lives there and he said it has become very unsafe with a large "gang culture". He says there was (and still is) a big influx of refugees from various countries being "dumped" there (his words not mine!) which is creating the ethnic "hate"...
as for travel time, its a fair hike from the city to be doing a daily commute, but you'd be looking at about 45mins+ and thats if the trains are running on time!

another thing to look at too is if you are commuting you will also be looking at spending up to $50 a week on train fairs, unless you are a concession. If you are only travelling into the suburb to and from study then you should be safe, however be careful around the station at night as nigrita is correct there are a lot of gangs in the area. Unfortunately dandenong, springvale and noble park have become high in gang activity. But also this means in the heart of the suburb there is high police patrol as well.. I don't go into springvale very often as i am closer to mulgrave but when i do i often see police and i feel safe during the day. I just wouldn't walk around the station for tooo long at night or the immediate streets surrounding it.

Noble Park is becoming very unsafe & i agree with everything posted by Negrita & Mrs Hendo.
If you plan to travel by train, then you should keep in mind that train line is becoming one of the un-safest to travel on.
I worked in Noble park for a yr n 1/2 recently & never had a problem. I worked with the refugees & migrants and they were always respectful and polite. I used to walk down the street every day to get lunch on my own and never bumped into any trouble. I'm a young blonde Aussie girl and I was fine.
The trains are always packed during peak times so as long as you're not catching the train at night I'm sure you'll be fine.
I'd have no probs working or studying in that area again.
Just be sensible I guess, prob was a bit silly of me to walk down the street on my own but I felt safe enough.
My mum lived in a neighbouring suburb (Keysborough) for a number of years and recently moved to Adelaide. She said she no longer felt safe to walk the streets and go down to the noble Park train station...even in the daytime. She did also mention the gangs and high crime around the area. If I was to do a course there Id make sure I didnt have to be around there at night time and could travel there with someone else going to the same course, never alone.
just to let you know, i have never been scared to travel alone in this area. Maybe at night after 8 pm but never throughout the day. As it was mentioned earlier peak times on the train are PACKED so you are safe then too. I think it's just important to be concious and safe. keep your hand on the strap of your handbag (but hey i do this everywhere) and dont walk down dark alleys lol..
In fact, i have felt more unsafe at caufield station at times and in the city than i have at springvale or noble park.
It's been a while since I've been up that way, but I used to work at Waverly Gardens SC and it is a nice area closer up that way. Noble Park North, Mulgrave or even Dandenong North (where I used to live) are all close by suburbs you could look at too :) Like all suburbs NP probably has good and bad areas so maybe ask the RA's their opinion!
You could always live a bit further out on the train line...say...Pakenham for example. :think:

Im not 100% sure, the lady on the phone said the closest course to me was in the 'Noble Park Area'
whast the course name? If its a t a tafe it should be easy to find. Maybe the closest course to you isnt the best, maybe the second closest one is only 5 mins further but in another direction.

RR ...Ads grew up in Noble Park until he was 13 then moved to a small country town ... and at 21 he moved in with his Gran in Springvale so he could commute to Uni in Melb and lived with her until he moved with me to Ballarat 5years ago.:

... BUT i have to say i did stay with his Gran many times in Springvale that's not far from Noble Park, and YES IT'S an UNSAFE area, many houses would get robbed around her area. Also i would sometimes catch the train from Parliament after work to Springvale and i can say i never felt safe, sadly i witnessed a few racials taunts on the train, was bloody awful. And Ads was offered to buy drugs on a few occasions along the main shopping strip near the train station in broad daylight.

Are you doing it at a college or at a place like tobin brothers cos i know they run the courses as well.. Did she give your the address cos if she is saying Noble park area.. it may even be up near princes hwy, which is near me and completely safe... just not super easy to get to by train. but I am close by so can give you a ride to the station whenever.
A bit OT but we moved from NP to Springvale and lived there for 13yrs :o - when we initially moved it was safe, but once the drug culture became really bad, it was quite scary....we used to have cars pull up outside our house and ppl just shoot up or snort whatever they'd just scored then be passed out in their cars for hours until us, or one of the neighbours called the police.... the houses on both sides of us were broken into and my dad was even held up at knife point at an atm in springvale in broad daylight :o - obviously this was about 7 years ago now and i have not been back to Springvale since so i don't know what it's like now, but living in the heart of it for so many years was enough to put me off going back.:
