what sort of doona do you have?

we need a new one!

so was wondering what sort most people have?
feather, down, wool etc...

im not keen on wool as you cant snuggle into it as much but if i get feather/down how do i know whats a good one or not??

we had a STUNNING sheridan one loffly cotton on the outer with polyester inner(i cannot have animal products) but then we got a king bed :( it was/is the snuggliest ever!!
now we have a all cotton king size one which is ok in summer but we have a beadspread in winter :)

We just recently bought a wool/cotton quilt. it's the David Jones brand. I'm like you and like a doona I can snuggle into and have always had feather but now Im moving in with DF, he has astma and allergies so he has to have wool. The last wool one he had was really flat and heavy like a really thick blanket. The new one is light and fluffy like a feather one. Make sure you get them when they're on sale though. We got ours for $40% off.

We have a down doona and a sheep very $$ underlay.. love it!

I am a quilt girl. I couldn't sleep in dead animal feathers... :cry: Sorry! :redface:
I like all cotton quilts - I have an embarassingly large collection of all colours, styles and I realise I am obsessional!!! :lol:

Ohh yes i was thinking of making a thread about this.. so im subscribing too as i need to get a new dooner as mine just doesnt cut it in this cold weather :(

Honestly Olive, I am not stalking you! You just seem to ask what I think I know I about :)
We all have wool duvets. The ones where you get two that snap together. So one is for autumn, one is for summer and when you snap them together they are for winter.
Work really well for Melbourne winter's. I got mine form OO at a great price.
I use them in winter with flanellete (sp?) sheets for winter and cotton for summer and find them as warm as toast.

I have a feather/down one... bought it from Target many moons ago... come to think of it maybe it's time for a new one :redface: it's been a few years! :o I love it though! So soft and cuddly and warm! Nothing beats them IMO!

oorki i jsut checked out sheridan and they have one called delux dream quilt, does that sound like the one you had? might suss out some prices that are cheaper!! DH has a sheridan pillow and its lovely, i want one for myself!

Ours is wool. I'm allergic to feather but I'd prefer wool anyway as it's nice & cosy!

We have a ranges of quilts :lol:
Wool, is great as it isn't really thick but oh sooo warm and we don't get sweaty from it.
Feather and Down, whihc si really good to snuggle into but I find that I overheat in it
Cotton, which is really lovely and inbetween the two above :D

I agree with the wool not being so snuggly, but from a warmth and consistency I find them brilliant.

I have a 100% wool doona and it's pretty snuggly. Not flat or hard at all. I wash mine in the bath with wool wash and it's just beautiful. It's in storage ATM and I miss it so much. We use it summer and winter, it really is great.
It was exxie though, but I'd pay every cent again.
Oh and we have a king size on a queen sizzed bed so there is extra to snuggle ;)

yeah ours was $300 ish but we didnt buy it we put it on our wedding registry ;)

Wool. Its nice and snuggly but also a heavier weight which I like as I feel the cold. The brand is biozone. We got ours from harris scarfe when they hard 60 per cent off very reasonably priced.

We've got a 90% down 10% feather quilt. I love it and am about to get it recovered and topped up for winter! It's still really warm, but the cover is sweatstained :redface: and it's a little flat.

We got it at half price (and paid about $180 for it!), but it's a great investment! I just love it. (and I don't mind sleeping in dead animals! LOL ) ;)

I have a 100% down doona. It was very expensive but worth every cent.

We have a 100% wool from Myer.....I forget the brand. I find the feather/down ones annoying as they seem to bunch in the bottom after a while. Wool works well in Melbourne's climate.

100% wool with cotton cover here! Very exxy, but we got them on special at Harris Scarf. They are lovely, nice and warm without all the bunching. We need 2 doona on our bed, as we are doona hogs and in the middle winter down here, both together is really toasty. I have washed both in our washing machine with success, which is a real bonus.

Just bumping as we are hopefully buying a king sized bed today and obviously need a new doona :D

I don't know what I've got but it's not feather and it's a sheraton one. It's lovely and can go in the washing machine :)

I splashed out when I bought my bed when I was single and bought a 100% down quilt. Loved it. Loved snugging under it.

Then married DH. DH hates it. Too hot for him. So for a while we used a cotton quilt thing in summer and the feathers in winter and them we got it over... And bought a wool one.

I am totally converted. It is toasty warm in winter and light enough in summer, except for some of those 25+ degree nights!!

I bought it through Lorraine Lee - at my own party so I got it half price I think, but it was still like $200 or something. But well worth it, IMHO.

I still find it snuggly and warm and not too heavy.

80% down is the way to go! Excy but sooo good!! Lorraine Lea have a few gorgeous ones too and if you have a party you could get them hugely reduced!

We have a woollen cashmere quilt. It might not be quite as snuggly but it's super warm and breathes. We have it dry cleaned every year to keep it fresh. It was exxy... (like Kim we got king sized doona for QS bed)

We went looking at king sized beds yesterday too! much more expensive than the quilt. Maybe I should start a thread about mattresses. What are you looking at?

Wool. I love wool and I can't imagine ever going back to down. The snuggliness of down is illusionary.

We have a down doona, but it's funky in that it's actually 2 doonas - one light weight, one medium weight, and they clip together to make a heavy weight for winter. Got it from Myer.

I married a sheep farmer so we are only allowed to have wool now.

That being said I really like them, we also had one that clipped together so that you could have light weight in summer heavy in winter. We have a king size bed and had to upgrade our doona and I went through a company called Aussie Wool Quilts, have had not problems with the doona.

I grew up on a sheep property so I love that, as well as being super comfy, wool quilts are supporting our wool industry. I also like the fact that sheep don't need to die to give wool.

I have a wool doona and find it cosy. I'm like inanna. I don't like the thought of sleeping in dead animal feathers. I'm just sleeping I a Sheeps castoff hair instead XD
I am keen to get a nice cotton quilt tho purely because I HATE DOONA COVERS AAARGHH!!
But waiting til we move house :)

I have a super-king wool quilt on my KS bed - best quilt ever! The super-king is slightly larger than king, so you kind of get the same effect as having a ks quilt on a qs bed.

Tehehe Olive - congrats! I have a goose down (after years of having polyester for DH - the asthma council now recommend down/feather over the polyester). So I raced out and got one last year and I LOVE love love it! I'm sure you'll love yours!

I have wool as am allergic to down and hate the feathers working their way way out and poking me! Also hate sleeping in dead animal as am vegetarian.

I am also a hot bod so I find feathers way too uncomfortable. Wool is perfect.

Belfries, I find That odd as feathers make me much more sneezy and itchy than wool does.

We have two. A feather(i think and) down, and a woolen one. We always used to use both doonas in winter in Lancefield, and just the woolen one in summer (if anything). The feather/down ones are definitely so much more snuggly than the wool.
