I'm taking up roller derby - wanna come?
It can get a little hard to get out by myself but I do meet up with friends as much as is possible, and I have found blogging to be really really good for me because I enjoy writing and I'm hoping to get better at it.
I struggle with this too so I would love some suggestions!
I go to work.. I love my job and I love just being "Kate" for a few hrs.. silly I know but its me time..
kate i had/have my volunteer work, but with the girls sick so often at the moment i havent been for so long :( that was my time out, although it was helping others, i need to do something for me and not others
I go out for drinks with my girlfriends and go shopping once a week with my sister - no kids or men.
Lots of things!
I have drinks with friends
I LOVE shopping in kitchenware stores
I get a monthly massage
On Tuesdays I now go to a meditation group
I collect Cookbooks new & Vintage
Im just about to start my doula course.....and I have my Twilight friends lol
I go to the gym. Nuts I know, but it's seriously the only time I do NOT think about my kids at all. It's all about me. It's only for an hour at a time usually, 3 times a week if I can manage it. I also try to get out and go shopping on my own for a few hours every weekend, doesn't always happen though.
I also like to go and have my hair done or get a pedicure pretty regularly.
I do a few different things:
I go to a "group" with people on Wednesday nights
I go to a women's group once a fortnight
I work... yep that is for me (well the KA work is!)
I am glad to hear you are planning on you time darling woman! All women need it - it's not a treat it's a necessity!
Well I don't have much child free time AT ALL any more. Finny doesn't go to his Dad & the girls only see the FW for 2 hours a week. So my time is very sparse.
I wrangle child care for a couple hours of a massage a month.
I get my nails done - but usually have Immy with me!
I am writing a book (aah I don't think I've announced that one!) but I do that amidst the cyclonic existence that is my house!
I meditate twice a day - morning and night and nobody is to interrupt unless there is a fire or a man in a trench coat at the door...
I coffee with friends (a lot!) but I always have Immy...
This Friday we are having a Sex in the City night - dinner and a movie in our finest attire... I am Carrie... (of course!)
I am very social I have friends over a lot - we do dinner -afternoon tea... I rarely go out at night as I have too many kids and they don't much like being left after the famiy issues wer've had.
I get very very very tired - but mostly I am happy and content. I talk a lot on the phone. I Belly Belly. I meet up with friends but my kids are part of my life so they are usually along for the trot.
My luxury is to go to chenrezig for a meal, a catch up and a time in the Gompa - or overnight but again I've got Immy with me.
Sometimes a friend looks after Immy and I do the hair dresser and lunch with a friend - that's blissful!
I love photography and Immy, Gloria and I sometimes hit the road after school drop off and I snap away at old galvanised iron sheds...
I have a gorgeous woman who lives in a little cottage on my property and she sometimes watches the kids so I can go and listen to some music and have a meal with friends in town at the Upfront Club... That's heavenly...
I am a big believer in looking after my spirit.
I exercise, get a pedicure, go for a massage, go to 'paid' full time work - which although its work I do enjoy, I enjoy cooking (even if it is for the family), I catch up with all the lovely chics on this awesome forum I found called Belly Belly hehehe, FB, I like to read too......
Like everyone else, time alone is scarce, so its the little things that mean alot!
Aaah yes I bake. I bake like others sew... I have been known to bake an embarassing amount of cupcakes just to deal with stress...
I exercise. I have coffee or hike with friends. I get the occassional massage.
I used to have coffee with friends ALLOT, have my hair and nails done regularly and massages.
I'm a bit embarrassed to say.... I can't remember the last time I did any of these without kids in toe or at all.
I do like to have a long hot shower at least twice a week without kids in there or banging on the door etc.
It was only today we were out shopping and I saw a pair of shoes I LOVED but didn't buy because DDs needed stuff. I do need another pair but they need stuff first.
I really need to start doing more for myself.
I am glad someone else gets it!
One day before my marriage imploded my kids came home to 140 cup cakes all delicately decorated on the benches... I remember DD15 saying: "mum is everything okay"? Aaah a sign! The freezer was full & there was always a snack on hand!
Yep I did 120 - 130 one day LOL! But I gave them all away ;)
Wow you girls are good at looking after yourselves! I don't remember the last time I did much for myself....I love to have baths, though the bath at this new house is tiny and pretty soon I'm going to be HUGE! I had a bath a few weeks ago and barely fit into it! I sometimes have coffee by myself. That's about it :( Must prioritise myself some more.
Hey Kel, its fantastic that you have made this a priority.
Like the other ladies said, even if its just a small thing such as getting your hair or nails (or both!) done once a month, just make a day and stick to it.
I dont have any kiddies yet, but I make a point every six weeks i get my hair and waxing done, as this is the only time I can get away from work and other commitments. Its my time, a couple of hours just to relax and do nothing having ppl fuss over me, as well as this I have also made good friends with my hair-dresser and beautician too...So there is another upside!!
Good luck with whatever you decide chick :-)
its wonderful to read back and see what everyone does for themselves... sigh i still dont know what to do for me though :( sad isnt it  i do want to study but the time just isnt right..
I go to a personal trainer twice a week and yoga once a week
Get my hair professionally cut & coloured every 6 or so weeks
Get massages & facials regularly
The occassional pedicure
Work part-time (paid work)
Go out for breakfast/lunch/coffee/dinner with friends
Surf the internet & hop on forums like BB, FB, blogs etc...
Go window shopping
Olive just remember my love when you have little babies it's much harder to do things for yourself. And... with time you get more practised at looking after you. It's really only in the last 5 years that I have really learned the necessity of caring for me. You will get there...
I go op-shopping.
I play video games.
I hang out with friends, kid free (or at least, without any kids I'm responsible for ).
What relaxes you Olive? What do you really enjoy? Is it a child free thing where you need to get out of the house to relax, or is there something you can do when the kids are in bed or busy?
I looooooove oppy shopping Nelle!!!! I have an oppy shoppy friend & we trawl!
I also love garage sales - but it's a logistical nightmare to get there at 7am with 4 kids...
If I don't exercise, I turn into a yelly mummy and I don't want to be like that so hitting the gym 4 times a week is vital to my emotional well being in life. I read a lot too, I tend to let the house go to pot when I have a good book on the go & that is always! ;) I have decided today that i am going to put DD into care a couple of hours a week so that I can get the house clean without a little helper trawling along messing things as I clean as I am finding a messy house drags me down too.
What are you reading Winter? (very off topic I know )
Not silly at all hun! It's the same as me!
I got to work 2 times a week and for those 8 hours, I'm just Liz, not 'Mum' or wife, just Liz - It's all I've got honestly
After watching Got To Dance a couple of times and some old Michael Jackson video clips on Max and others on V, I do, however, want to start dancing again (did it in high school) but don't have the cash for it
i havent been op-shopping for ages! used to go when sophie was younger! been thinking of going again...
deb i love a vodka when the girls are asleep
DH and i want to go to the Titanic exhibition.
I too dont have kidlets yet but I always make the time to head to a friends house for some Stampin Up fun.
I also (very unregularly) go to the gym and giggle while doing Zumba lol
I read, I get my nails done and I am TRYING to get my hair back to blonde after being Dark for 3 years. I still love it dark but DP like the look of it blonde (hasnt actually seen it like that just pics)
Ummm I go to the gym.. and I do shopping on a saturday by myself usually - sometimes I will take DS with me though if he's happy to go to the childcare at the gym for an hour beforehand though.
I've also got a voucher from my birthday to go and get my hair done (thanks Sterla!) so will be doing that soon - yippeee.. now to just decide on what hair cut and colour to do.....
I think thats about it though. I take long hot showers at night when all kids are asleep and I don't have to worry about being interrupted. Thats bliss.
I've got a book club that I go to once a month... so that involves reading at least one book a month which is also good me time!
Apart from that, I try and catch up with friends, but that's about it. Maybe once the little one is born and settles into life on the outside I'll be able to have a bit of ME time.
I go to the gym i love it.
