How did you get from birthing room to recovery?

Lighthearted thread - how did you get from the labour ward/birthing suite/wherever you had your baby to your room after? Walk? Wheelchair? Stretcher from the OR? Homebirth so you only had to move from the floor to your bed?

I walked with my first two, but with #3 it was freezing cold and I was just wearing a pajama top and no pants (thanks to a placenta that took forever to arrive) with a (rather gooey) blanket over my legs. They let me wrap the blanket around me to keep off the cold and wheeled me down the hallway to my room. Which was a very short distance, I might add.

I find it most amusing that I was perfectly capable of walking but got a lift in a wheelchair purely because I wasn't wearing pants :D

I also think they were being ultra nice to me because they almost missed the entire birth. They ordered me breakfast and brought biscuits and milo too!

I walked from the birthing suite to my room after showering & freshening up, the epidual didn't take very long at all to wear off and I had had a top-up dose just before DD was born. They did an internal and I was 8cm so I was allowed to have it........she was born about 20mins later :)

I caught a wheelchair up to my room after DD1 as I'd lost a lot of blood and had nearly passed out before being put a drip. With DD2, I walked from the birth centre to the ward after our waterbirth as we had to wait for her sugar level results to come back. I felt like a real fraud being in a wheelchair when my legs were working, but I was incapable of standing up!

After DS1's birth I felt like I could run a marathon! I felt awesome even though I had been labouring since the wee hours and well into the day. So I walked back to my room after his, DD1's and DS2's births. I had a retained placenta after DD2 so I was wheeled back in on a bed after being in theatre to remove it. I was very delicate walking around after her birth as my stomach was very sore.

i walked from the birth room to my other room but i was already in there for a whole 24 hours lol and i had my parents to help me move all my stuff so i could carry DS

I was wheeled out on a bed...
Still can't remember though the transfer from the OT table to the bed...at all...but remember coming too in recovery and being really tired and trying to sleep...still don't know how long I was actually up there, feels like hours.

With DS I had an epidural top up after birth so they could stitch me up, so I needed a wheelchair ride back to my room. It was so awkward as I could not even move my legs.

With DD I had a ton of stitches and was really weak and dizzy so after I was helped into and out of the shower I was wheeled back to my room.

I walked back to my room both times...

hobbled very slowly to my room...I had an epi and stiches and was sooo sore! MIL helped me have a shower, must admit I'm a bit embarassed she saw me in that state! she was there for the birth so saw everything, and then helped me shower (well pretty much washed me all over!) because I could hardly move I hurt so much!

I walked. We had a fair bit of time in the birthing suite after delivery as our room wasn't ready. I had time to have a shower and recover from my epidural. I remember wheeling Mitchell in a plastic tub while husband carried the bags.

Walked to the shower in the delivery suite and had a shower with the help of a MW, then after getting dressed, I was in wheelchair to go down to NICU to see DD then back in the wheelchair back to my room which was on another floor.

With DD, I walked after I'd had been stitche up, had something to eat and had a shower.

With DS, I birthed him in a birth centre which meant delivery room = recovery room so I was helped up from the floor onto the bed and there I stayed!

Had DD @ 2008 and was wheeled back to my room on a bed from recovery at 2230.

Walked. It was only about 20 meters. But I had to carry all the bags cause XP wanted to carry DD :(

Got wheeled to my room on a bed cause I had a bleed and when I sat up to get up to have a shower came very close to passing out. I had DD at 8pm and didn't get to have a shower till 11am the next day. I felt so grotty and boy was that shower good!

DD1 i walked very gingerly... was in a lot of pain :( was about 5 hours after she was born
DD2 i spent the night in delivery as i was high maintances due to haemorrage, was wheeled in a wheel chair the next morning, i was too weak to walk, but was ok because i only had to worry about holding DD

i was wheeled on a bed from the theatre recovery to my room as i had a 2nd degree tear, DD was born at 11.02am and i went to my room at 1.30pm i still have no idea how long stitching me up took or how long it took for me to come around.

I was wheeled carrying DS after showering & getting dressed. After standing during my entire 22 hour labour there was no way I was walking anywhere! I remember being shirty that they even gave me the option of walking lol. Could barely walk for the next week!

DDs i wasnt allowed to walk for 2 days :(

With DS I had an epidural and they wheeled me back to the room in the bed and I wasn't allowed to get up until mid morning the next day

With DD she was born in the bath at a birth center, when she was a few minutes old I got out of the bath with her and walked to the bed because she was getting cold. I was discharged two hours after the placenta was out and walked out to the car, went home and made lunch.

I walked while DH pushed the crib with DD. I remember commenting how when I had been there only a couple hours (and I was induced with gels so really NOTHING was happening at the time) I got moved from one delivery suite to the another and wheeled on a bed but going to my room after the delivery (about 20 tmes bigger distance) I walked! I had already had a shower and cleaned up and had breakfast by the time we moved and I was feeling FAB!

In a wheelchair. I had a shower and got into my jaamies in the birth suite and then a procession of midwives escorted me to the postnatal ward. One wheeled me, one pushed DS in his little crib, another found a tray of lunch for me and brought that then 2 others came along for the ride (must have been a quiet day for births) LOL I'm glad they wheeled me there, I felt fine but my legs were really shaky so it was hard to stand!

The whole belly weight ton the front not being anymore kinda threw my balance out... DH pushed DS in his cot ^^;

I walked with both my girls. I had a shower in the birth suits before I was moved both times, but we didn't move either time for hours after the birth so was feeling ok (a little hunched over due to a repeared tear, but still felt fine) both times! :)

Obviously with the first two being c-sections I was wheeled back to my room and just transferred onto the bed that way.

With DD2 I walked into the lounge area of the birth centre, and had a nice cup of tea, and chatted to the midwives until I felt a heap of blood come out, then they made me walk to the toilet, and saw how much was coming out, gave me a needle and watched until it had stopped to a normal level. Then I hobbled to the bed because I felt like I had been hit by a truck... LOL.. then a couple of hours later I went home and had a shower. :D

With DS1 I was much the same as you, hitched a ride in a wheel chair with a blanket covering my bare bottom LOL. That's the only reason, I was a mess all over & only had my top to put back on. But soon after I was in my room & had a shower I walked DS down to the main area to bath him at just a few hours old.
With DS2 I had him in about 20minutes, showered up in the ward then held onto his cot (for balance) and pushed him back to our room....was a tad wobblely due to the shock of it all happening so very quickly.

Had DS at 4 49am, had a shower then went to sleep for a few hours, got woken up for breakfast and BF DS (all by myself :D) while I ate.
Then pushed DS in his cot (using it for support) to our room at about 8 or 9am ish.
I remember walking to the lift and the MW saying DS was "lucky to have such a calm Mummy". The rest is blank, but I made it there so must have been ok. Lol

I was wheeled in a wheel chair. I'd had a relatively short labour, and no epidural so I was theoretically capable of walking, but I got the shakes really badly. One of the midwives needed to help me shower while still in delivery suite after I was given lunch and I vaguely recall having dinner in my room. I think we even stopped by the SCN on the way to call in on Sam. I know I still needed a wheelchair to go see Sam at 9pm that night (he was born just before 1pm). By mid-morning the next day I was able to shower myself (after checking where all the call buttons in the bathroom were!) and finally walked to SCN under my own steam 24 hours after Sam was born.

Our MW pushed DD in the wheelie cot thing, DH had my labour bag and I was wheeling the suitcase, walking along going 'wow I can't believe I just had a baby'

I got wheeled to my room while a very proud DH walked in front pushing DD in the cot thingy!

Walked both times. With DS1 I went to get off the bed and didn't realise there would be a huge gush of blood. So there was a huge mess for the nurses to clean up. I walked to my room to have a shower with an awful gooey towel between my legs.

DS2 I had a shower in the birthing suite before walking back to my room. I think I kinda struted, very slowly though. :P

I went to a birth centre so I birthed in the room we were staying in.

I walked back to my room all 3 times after I'd showered and felt ready to. We were allowed to spend as much time in the birthing suite as we liked, with dd2 we spent a couple of hours there playing with her and introducing her to the kids etc.

First I was wheeled in 7hrs after delivery (didn't stand up until 20odd hrs later after birthing)

The second I walked. It was so weird after the first to be able to walk (and it was a walk as delivery suite is on a different floor to postnatal) and to be in my PJ's in my work place felt very odd.

I was in birth suite for 6 hours after DD1 and DS because I had any epidural both times. My epidural was turned off 15 mins before I started pushing with DD1 and as soon as I started pushing with DS but I have some weird reaction to it where my left leg stays completely numb for about 12 hours after - it happened in both my labours so I was completely unable to walk or bear weight. So I was in a wheel chair after both of their births.

I had a c/s with DD2 and was wheeled down on a bed while DD2 was taken upstairs to special care.

Here the birth suite is on the middle floor with maternity below and special care above and you have to walk through the main part of the hospital to get to the elevators ... not fun!

DS1 I can't remember - I think I walked pushing him the the plastic crib thingy
DS2 I was in a bed - I had a PPH, then fainted so they cathertered me and didn't allow me to get up for a day (when I did I fainted again so wasn't allowed up for another day)

DD1 - i was 'stretchered' from the bathroom floor to the ambulance (holding DD1), taken into hosp, i spent the first night and part of the next day in the birthing suite as the ward was full but the next day i walked up (barefoot cos in the rush we forgot shoes & slippers). :rofl:

DD2 - i had a shower, got dressed and then walked up, it was about 1am in the morning, it was so peaceful!

DS - 22hr labour, episiotomy, epidural, I walked from the birthing room to my room after a shower. I wasn't even offered a wheelchair.

DD - about a 5hr labour, 2nd degree tear, I walked from the birthing room out the front door. I went home 6hrs after dd was born.

i was wheeled on a bed. stupid epidural. i couldn't get out of bed until the next morning so i had to wait until then from 5.45 the previous afternoon for a shower. a shower has never felt so good!
