With my waters leaking & not being in active labour it's looking like I'll be on the synto at some stage today.
I'd like to avoid an epi. Has anyone done an induced birth without pain relief?

Yep.
With my first, I went into labour on the due day, went to hossy.. then they all died down... not knowing any better I let them use the drip to move things along...
It was only on low, labour progressed normally.. 8 hours later, no drugs, and a normal vaginal birth.
Remember unless they are worried about infections, you can go 24hrs with leaking waters before getting too concerned... and you are likely to go into labour before then!! ;)
Good luck, how exciting!!!! xoxoxo
I had my waters broken first, then started on the synto a few hours later. Was on the synto only 5.5 hours or so and managed without drugs. I did use some gas at the end, but it was just because I was so distressed and losing it and it (sort of) helped me to focus on something.
I think maybe 80% of women induced with synto end up with an epidural - can totally understand why.
Yes I have!
It was a four hour labour and well....... it hurt but I managed...LOL
good luck to you hun!!
DD2 i needed togo on the synto because my labour stalled, didnt even use the gas, was hard work but an hour and a half after starting the synto i was pushing so was over relatively quickly.
Good luck, look forward to reading ur BA
I replied to this in your other thread. I have had two induced labours and two labours completely drug free.
I've had three induced labours and the last two I did totally drug free, without even gas.
Good luck hun.
Yep.
I was induced with synto 3 times. 1st time I had a shot of pethadine. 2nd time I only used gas towards the end and 3rd time I didn't have any pain relief at all, not even gas.
Not myself, but a friend of mine did. Good luck!
Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I'll def ask for as much flexibility as possible - so I can shower etc. And I'll ask if it can be started at a low dose.
Last time this happened I was put on synto after 17hrs of natural labor so was already exhausted!
But thus time I'm feeling well rested so hopefully can manage better :)
Hope you have a great labour! I had synto & didn't feel need for any pain relief. My mw started on low dose & took the dosage up slowly & I think that helped. I had gel the day before & by synto time bub was fully engaged & I'd started to dilate.
Yes! With my first child, I had PROM at 36.4 weeks. I failed to go in to labour and after 72 hours (I was at home, taking antib and monitored by my independent midwife) I went to hosp and was put on synto drip. I was determined not to have an epi. And I didn't. It was intense but I got through it without any drugs.
It was a very empowering experience for me. I went on to have 2 homebirths after it. I knew that I could birth at home drug-free as I had survived the synto!
I wish you all the best for your labour and birth.
Yep me :)
Best of luck to you, gorgeous!! So close now :D I had synto with DD1 and used gas, had a shot of peth but it seriously didn't help at all, DD2 was spontaneous labour but had AROM to get things moving and only a couple of puffs of gas to get me through a posterior labour :) It hurt, sure, but it can definitely be done! Hope it all goes well for you hun and you have a wonderful birth :D Can't wait for the BA! xx
I started synt at 0700 and laboured till 1530 with no drugs, I then ended up with an epidural due to being slow to dilate and emerg cs at 2130. So yes I went a long time on synt no drugs.
Good luck
I had the gas only. Had synto and bub was posterior- came out facing wrong way.
It is easier if you know from the start you don't want an epidural.
good luck matey
I had my waters broken and synto started straight away as I had to be induced due to PE and HELLP. I did not use any drug pain relief - just massage from DP for back pain.
Best of luck :)
I was induced because i had merconium in my waters. I was having some of my own contractions in the beginning and the drip was put in about 12pm and my gosh could i feel the different between mine and the synto ones but i never felt the need for anything more than gas.
How did you manage??
I went into labour but it stopped when I got to hospital. I had ARM and synto and got through it with gas. I was keeping peth and epi in reserve for later but I didn't need them. Arrived at hospital at 3pm and had her at 9.15.
Looks like I won't need synto afterall. Turns out my waters aren't leaking - just a watery show over 12hrs or so. And contractions have started on their own. Being upright makes them stronger but seeing as it's night time I wanted to get as much rest as I could before actively trying to get labour going.
It's just before 4am now & I don't think I'm getting back to sleep. They're 10-15mins apart & getting ouchy :)
I'm hoping for drug free. Last birth I tried gas but it just made me less focused - and I felt like I needed to focus! I've had opiates for pain relief with a broken bone before and I reacted badly - so that's out. So epi is only real option if I feel I need it, & I think I'll only need it if the labour is particularly long & I get too tired to manage the contractions. So fingers crossed it's less than 25hrs, like last time!
Good luck!! Look forward to the BA!
I only used gas. O did require a csection even after getting fully dilated after 4 hrs.
My labour was totally rushed. I never knew but you can request that thru turn the drip down or off.
I really hope all goes as you'd like. My first labour was 23hrs and second was 3.5hrs but that involved the synto so not sure how things would have gone otherwise. I know with gas it also made me feel a little yuk at timse and what they'd do is turn that off and i'd just have air, breathing and biting down on the mouth piece seemed to help me through contractions aswell.
Good luck can't wait to hear how you went :D
How exciting, looking forward to your BA :D
DS3 was induce with ARM and synto. No pain releif 5 hour labour.
Thats awesome news! cONGRATS, HOPING YOU ARE CUDDLING YOR BABY NOW!
