All signs point to a boy - but its a girl?

Ok I'm really confused (but at least not as upset as I was last week) as to this belly baby being a girl. And this is why...

We DTD right on ovulation - same as DS. To get both DD1 and DD2, we DTD on day 9 of my cycle.

Heart rate was 142 at the scan, same as DS. The girls were higher, DD1 in the 150's and DD2 around 149/150.

The ring test has been right for all my babies, and predicted this one would be a boy.

I got acne in the first and part of the second trimester with both DD's - and nothing with DS - and nothing with this one.

My cravings are basically the same as they were with DS - savoury over sweet.

All signs point to a boy - but its a girl!? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

A family I knew a while ago... Everything suggested that it was a girl. Scan said it was a little Jack on the way. Surprise to the mum. Nursery gets decked out in blue, parents go out and buy sporting equipment (cos that's what newborn boys need ?!?) and then Sophie is born. Only she was nameless for a while, because they were so surprised, after the scan said she was a boy.

That's all I got though.

I have a friend who has twice been told - "it's a girl" on the scans and then "it's a boy" on the arrival. Remember the scans are not 100% accurate.

there is also the chance the one doing the scan wasnt experienced, possible didnt know what they were ment to be looking at or for and was taking a guess at the sex? could you talk to someone and try have another for your own peace of mind?

Did the scan show clear evidence of a girl? Or just no evidence of a boy, ITMS?

Nah, he was pretty experienced, it was one through the hospital here - and he definitely knew what he was doing. Took about a second for him to look at it and tell us what it was.. we didn't even realise he was between the legs!! LOL We're not getting another one done... we were considering getting a 3D scan done but down here its not an easy process to get granted one (not like where we lived on the Sunny Coast where a private place would do them and you just go in and pay and get it done, down here you need a GP referral and it HAS to be only for a morph scan or a growth scan referral) so we decided against it. Too many scans aren't good for bubba anyway.

i have the same thing this time... everything pointed to girl and he is a boy... i have had more than one scan confirm it.. we even got to see his little bits on a 3d scan... Remember that every single pregnancy is different so it could just be luck of the draw that your girls pregnancies were so similar.. but if you feel so strong about it... don't go painting a pink room ;)

No evidence of a boy.

Do you have a picture of a DVD of the scan? A girl is three clear lines and a boy is, well, you know... ;) If you can see it on the screen/pic, that's probably the clearest indication.

As for the other signs... My mum had three pgs, third one completely different and she was sure it was a boy. She has three girls. ;) My ob said the heart rate thing is not right at all, or else he's delivered a lot of babies that had their gender mixed up. It's more to do with physical things at the time of measurement, ie resting, awake, Mum resting/awake, natural heart rate, etc.

Not to scuttle your hopes, but just putting it out there. The scan is the most accurate way until you meet bub.

Jen - it was done through the hospital, so no DVD here! All we've got is a profile pic and some face pics (which are on facebook) but nothing that shows between the legs or anything.

Well that makes it hard doesn't it? LOL. We were told it's not the absence of male genitals, you need to clearly see three white lines for the female genitals. At least, that's what it was in 2005! It was really obvious on my DD's u/s. Not that he didn't see that, but if you didn't hear/notice, I guess you really can't be sure.

I know I've heard of a lot of "girls" later becoming boys during the pregnancy. It's much easier to determine if a baby is a boy through a scan, not always so easy to determine if it's a girl.

Hun I've had 3 totally different pregnancies and three boys. I think it is just going to do your head in over analysing your symptoms. Is there anyway you could get a referral to find out either way even though it's a pain? Did the scan place keep a copy of the scans images that you could ask to see?

I agree! Its DH that doesn't believe it - not me. I just want to deal with the fact that its not the gender I particularly wanted, and move on to acceptance. DH has put this little seed of doubt in my mind though.. arghhh.

I doubt we could get a copy - its through the hospital? I've never had to go through a hospital for scans though, so I dont' really know.

DH thinks that just because he didn't see the penis, doesn't mean its not there. And since he's said that - its all I can bloody think about!! arghh.

I remember being told if you've been told you're having a boy - then you're having a boy. If you're told you're having a girl, there is still a chance you're having a boy.

The bit's may not be developed as they usually are at the 18 - 20 wk mark.

I felt a bit the way you probably are now when I found out DD was not going to be a DS. But once I got on with the idea - and the fact I've always found girls clothing more exciting lol, I dealt with it a much better....So I guess i'm saying 'go shopping' - I know you've got lots of pink already, get some more ;). Ive heard of this happening twice! Not that Im saying I think your scan is wrong but if your even a teensy bit in doubt can you get another scan done purely for fun?

The scan's for M said girl...all bloody 4 of them until 38 weeks. I had all the same cravings I had with the boys, sausage roll's big m chocolates....same pains, sex drive, heart rates EVERYTHING was the same bar the scans all said GIRL!

I even kept saying boy and felt boy vibes......and it was confirmed at the 38 week u/s when hello you couldnt miss his huge penis!!!

SO YES scans can be very very wrong!!!! (and you know how I feel already)

I am in the same boat Mel... Everthing is different this time around and I was convinced it was a boy. They say it is a girl. I do have to have a third tri scan though so I suppose we will see but DH is insisting the scan was right so I am trying not to get myhopes up it was wrong.... nothing to be done except wait - I have no idea how they did this for an entire pregnancy before scans we routinely available!! lol. :hug:

Haha thats what DH says - about the existing thing - although he uses the war overseas - just because they say they are hiding weapons of mass destruction doesn't mean they actually are.. LOL

I have heard of this happening a fair bit, even a baby born the same day as a friend of mine's - was supposed to be a girl but she pushed out a boy.

TBH I wouldn't find out if it were only for scans, the only reason we found out with both DD2 and this squish was because of the CVS/amnio.

FWIW my friend; even when it was clearly 20000% obvious Stells was all boy at my 20wk scan I STILL held out hope they were wrong. Dh used to ask me if I was thinking it might fall off in utero and Id give birth to a girl............and optional extra accessory :rofl: Itd be harder not to wonder if it were a girl because it definately is more likely a penis can appear magically at birth than fall off and disappear.

Such a shame you can't get another scan. I reckon the only time you'll get a false gender prediction is with an inexperienced sonographer. With technology these days, you really can't not see it!
FWIW - DD3's pregnancy pointed to her being a boy. Everything about it was different. But nope, she's definitely a girl ;)

I know of a family, same thing, told on each and every scan it was a boy, and out popped their gorgeous little girl and into a blue bedroom with tonka trucks :)

I was convinced I was having a boy, nothing concrete, just a "feeling". When we were told she was a girl, I just about fell off the bed. Second scan, I made the sonographer confirm it and she said if it was a boy, he'd need some serious surgery! I don't think I was entirely convinced until she was born.

When I fell pregnant with this bub, I was sure it was a boy - MAJOR cravings for red meat, aversions to chicken, savoury over sweet and all the other things I have had when carrying my other 3 boys.

We went for the scan at 19w2d and the baby was straddling the cord. We got in to all kinds of positions only to be told in the end that the sonographer thinks it is a girl based on the fact that she couldn't see a penis... but, she also didn't see the 3 white lines so really couldn't be sure.
I left a bit disheartened to tell the truth. Not only was this the first time EVER we asked to find out the gender, but we were none the wiser really and I was told the bub is more than likely a different gender to what I was feeling.

Now just over 5 weeks later I have my head wrapped around the fact that there is more than likely a little girl in there. I am happy about that - now.
I am having a 3d scan done in a few weeks time where I am hoping to find out the gender, but I am not holding my breath that we will, and this time I am happy for it to be either gender :)

I wish there was some way for you to be able to get your scan done again. Hopefully your results come back saying they were unable to see something properly and you'll get sent for a repeat scan ;)

I had completely different pregnancies with my two. I thought #2 would be a girl but that wasn't to be. It's hard for me to say if I had that gut feeling of which gender he was going to be cause I was influenced by my desperate want for a little girl. But I like to think and believe that a mother's instinct is mostly right.

I haven't read all the replies, but can do you have a DVD of the scan? If you do have a look i fyou can slow it down & take screen shots of it. This is what I do with mine. I think I am pretty good at reading ultrasounds to pick gender now LOL

I'm in Tassie to and if I wanted an extra scan, I could just go to my GP and ask him to give me a form. Obviously you will have to pay for it tho. I know my SIL had an extra scan just because!

I am not sure that your results could be wrong, but a friend of mine got told girl, and then a little man came out. Apparently they can never be 99% sure with a girl as they can with a boy. JUst assume it's a girl, who knows you may be surprised yet!

I know with our 20 week scan when pg with DD, our sonographer was very quick and experienced and she knew instantly what DD was... we wanted proof and asked to show us why she thought she was a girl and she showed us the 3 lines...... of the labia/clitoris iykwim?!? :lol: it was SO CLEAR. 100% was not a boy!! Boy's don't have genitals like that LOL

DD2 showed all signs of being a boy, everyone was convinced, we didn't find out the sex so all surprise but even with all the boy signs she was a girl!
So who knows as for the u/s it doesn't sound too convincing when he says its a girl cause he can't see a penis, maybe it was facing wrong way or something? Was there anything to indicate girl besides no penis?

our sonographer is awesome and has been doing it for well over 20 years, he did DDs scan and was right, he did the scan for this one and was even more sure BUT he did admit that to his knowledge he had been wrong ONCE! I have kinda comitted to the sex of this baby and i think il will be truely shocked if it comes out different!
They do get it wrong sometimes, and like everyone has said its easier to be told a girl and have a boy appear!

If it does turn out to be a boy you have to share your girls name cause im very curious! :)
