bowel movements and AGRESSION!!!

Just a nother thing for me to takenote and let the pead in on at out meeting in Feb *sigh*

Ive taken mental notes on M.....his 'screaming' his physical outbursts, hitting, scratching, kicking.....its on morning's when he doesnt do a poo first.

I swear today has been a day from hell. Ive done nothing more then try to stop someone from kicking his big brother and from hitting his sister. When I interferre we have the big throw down on the ground, head butt and scream high pitch. The corner was looking very very good for me to rock back and forth in. There were tear's, things thrown and oh no's said.....and that was just me.

I took the amigo's for a drive...bought lunch cause it was easier then dealing with going home and doing it. Got home and BANG he did it..one from blerg hell...and the attitude changed....calm M came back.

I would like ot know if other mum's go through this with their spectrum kids??? Ive never had these problems with W so its all new

Maz I know Im not a spectrum mum but DS is often in a cranky mood when he hasnt done a poop for a while. He lashes out at others over minor things and I cop most of his aggression (thank god cz I cant imagine what it would be like if his sisters coped it half as much as I do). He hates being touched (I assume he has tummy pain assosciated) and if the DDs touch him (which they do often, they love him to death) he smacks them. I cop the yelling and screaming and crying so I take him aside and try to calmly talk to him (which is hard as his new trick is to point his finger in my face and yell at me, just sounds but oh baby tone is everything and if that could kill Id be gone). Having said all that my DS gets constipated quite easily and Ive made changes in his diet and no luck yet.

Maz, I'm amazed at this, as I've just been working with a spectrum Mum who's noticed the exact same thing. Rather, it took us a while to put it together. On one hand, she told me that his behaviour has been deteriorating awfully lately and he's been very violent, throwing massive kicking tantrums and being aggressive toward his siblings. Then 10 mins later she tells me that he's refusing to poo on the toilet and therefore going 3-6 days between poos (until they finally crack and give him a nappy to go in). I asked her if she thought the two issues were related and she said.... 'ummmm... wow. YES.'

Is there anything you can give him to get the poo through earlier in the day? I know with my little one, I give her a big cup of milk in the morning and she's pretty much guaranteed to poo 10 mins later. Not sure if that works with other kids / an older child though??? Otherwise, no clues, but I'd be really interested to know what others think.

S - yes...banana's make him gowith 5 mins :lol:...and I tottally forgot to give him one this morning :doh: I wonder what it is, the chemical's, the feeling :dunno:

All the kids have a warm milo in the mornings... might get back into making weetbix for breaky again me thinks

Maz I have been asking the same question as I am sure there must be a link between bowels and asd in some way.

My man has so much trouble going and has actually been on parachoc for over 8 months. I have booked back in as I am not comfortable with this. As soon as we try to wean him off it or cut back the dose he becomes seriously constipated. He also becomes agitated and restless.

I hope the pead can give you some answers

My friends daughter has been on parachoc for over a year and apparently it is ok for long periods of time tan32.

Symptoms of yeast and bacteria imbalance
For my son, yeast caused symptoms similar to phenol symptoms -- hyper and giggling, and sleep problems. Sometimes he would spin himself around in circles. When he had "brain yeast" [yeast in his brain, not his gut], it would cause other symptoms, like visual stims and sexual behavior [humping objects, playing with himself, etc]. Yeast can also cause cause red ring around the anus, "spaciness", anger and aggression, headache, head banging, sound sensitivity [holding the hands over the ears], climbing on furniture and jumping off, vestibular sensory issues, and other similar issues. Also, sometimes my son's bms went from being firm and solid, to looking "airy and fluffy", similar to sponge cake. Also, it looked like it had strings of melted cheese in it. But sometimes my son's bms did not look any different than normal, because apparently the yeast was in his brain, not in his gut.

For bacteria overgrowth or "bad" bacteria, parents report their child had poor eye contact, tantrums, hand flapping and stimming, frequent [5-10 per day] and nasty bowel movements ranging from real soft to liquid. For my son, his bacteria bms looked like diluted cottage cheese. Bacteria behaviors are commonly aggression and "being mean".

There are several different types of yeast, including candida, which appears to be the most common variety. There are also several different types of "bad" bacteria, including clostridia and Citrabacter F.

My son never had a yeast or bacteria issue so far as I know, until I began chelating with ALA, when he did develop his first yeast issue. Because ALA excretes metals thru the gut, it does tend to increase the possibility of a yeast issue in yeast-sensitive children. Some people also report an increase in yeast issues when using DMSA for chelation.

There is also an increased tendency to develop a yeast issue if your child has to use antibiotics for ear infections or other issues. So if you choose to give your child antibiotics for something, be sure to use one of the OTC remedies indicated below, or ask your child's doctor for a prescription for an anti-fungal medication to use along with the antibiotics.

Anti-virals [Lauricidin, olive leaf extract, Virastop enzyme, even vitamin C] can also cause yeast. With chelation [removal of heavy metals], my son's tendency toward yeast was entirely eliminated for about a year, until I started anti-virals. When I started Lauricidin with my son, his viral issues significantly reduced, but his yeast significantly increased. In fact, his yeast [in the brain, not the gut] from anti-virals was much worse than his yeast from chelation. More information on this below.

Yeast can be in other places besides in the gut. Yeast can be in the mouth [thrush], or on the skin [diaper rash area or feet/toes or other skin area]. My son also had yeast in his ears and sinuses, and in his brain. See ideas under OTC methods for addressing these yeast issues.

We have issues here with behaviour when Miss Z puts off going to the loo. Interestingly (or not) when we were kids my dad always sent us to the loo when super cranky so I wonder if it happens generally??? I'd be interested to hear what the paed says. xx

I can relate - not to the same extent - My little miss gets very cranky when she hasn't done a poo.
I think she sort of gets a uncomfortable feeling and just loses the plot at everything.

Hope you can get him on a good 'poo schedule' to prevent problems.

i'm sorry i didnt realise that this thread was for spectrum kids...i saw the thread title and yelled: "YES!". so i apologise for sharing our account but thought it an interesting connection...

my DD1 has lately been really rotten. unbelievably so. to the point where DH said yesterday that he doesnt recognise this new person. she had been complaining of a sore belly off and on and then would do a poo. yesterday she had to go a few times (and sorry if TMI...) and it all looked normal. then today she really hit the ceiling with her aggression and well what i can only describe as hatred at the world. all day has been a battle (spitting at us when angry, yelling back, slamming doors etc etc). unrecognisable behaviour. she even delibrately hurt her friend today just for the sake of it and then stomped on a snail for the same reason...totally out of character.
THEN she said she had a sore belly, went to the loo and WHAMMO. massive poo. DH dealt with it and reckons that even he would of been challenged doing one like that lol.
After that she was a great deal calmer and easier to talk with (before i swear that she couldnt hear us or at the very least was tuning us out to an unbelievable degree)....and was exhausted. in bed just before 7pm...

i reckon there has to be a connection...will be interesting to hear what the doc has to say!

maz I have worked with a few spectrum bunnies, and I have seen this SO MUCH. Have also seen it in other kids but the reaction doesn't seem to be as intense. If you think about it, when you've got a *ahem* "turtle poking its head out"... it's a very distinct physical feeling, and I guess you can understand why that's just one more thing he has to process, and hence starts to wig out.

Can you sneak some psyllium husk in with his milo? Or somehow get it into him before bed the night before? Definitely will nto hurt him to up his natural fibre intake, and good thinking on the banana.

I know I've read about a link between the gut and spectrum disorders, I just can't remember where... I'll go searching.

It's interesting what the information above says about heavy metals. I've recently had a hair analysis done and found out I'm overloaded with heavy metals. The guy who's treating me mentioned a link between heavy metals and my ADD and that treatment can reduce ASD behavious. He also said in my case with really high levels of copper, it's got something to do with developing food intolerances/gut problems. We were on the phone, so I didn't get the details. I'll ask more when I see him.

I know my mum's always said there's a link between constipation and brain function. Something to do with staying hydrated.

well....J and I had a discussion on a form of attack for M.
We wont be letting him sleep longer then 8am...yes the kid can sleep for hours if we let him (not a good sign with his known brain damage)
and first thing we do is offer him a banana or apple cause we know it makes him poo within 10mins.
No loud harsh voice tones when we tell him off..remove him from the situation, tell him its no and then ask him to hug the person he has hurt to say sorry.

This morning he woke at 8am by himself :dance: and i quickly lobbed a banana his way and B.I.N.G.O poo from hell!!!!!!!
We have had such a calmer day...only one melt down which was quickly nibbed in the bud with 'lets share' with a big smile on my dial. He hurt V once and once I said no you hurt V she is crying, give her a hug better he did.

Mate I found M had serious issues with Poo.... it wasn't until we did a yeast detox that she settled. I upped the probiotics and used special ones from a naturopath, I then got some herbs from my chinese medicine doctor which literally flushed out the yeast. Her poo smelled of rising bread dough for 3 days. It was awesome..... then in her bath we put bicarb soda which apparently helps detox heavy metals from their bodies. Whatever one worked.... it really worked. We were off dairy as well, but gees she became a regular gal then and hasn't looked back at all.
