Too much? Barb?
OK so i have spent about 9 to 10 weeks stresing that my supply might drop off and then today at the pead check up i get told to maybe cut a feed out as ds is gaining too quickly, i didnt think you could over feed a bf bubs?
so at 11 weeks he weighs 6.5kg
at 8 weeks 5.65kg
i do feed him when he wakes then again to sleep or whenever he may want it inbetween
i thought bfing would be something i would struggle with or not enjoy but 'know it to be best'
but i LOVE IT and cant bear the thought not to feed to sleep :(

Why would any right thinking Health Professional say anything to a mum in your position other than "That's fabulous - you are doing a great job" Unless it was to say "You must be so proud of yourself" and "Keep up the good work"
Can't help betting this same person would also be on the case of a mum whose baby was only gaining smaller amounts - saying "he needs more"
You are doing a beautiful job. You are right - you can't over feed him. But, stop stressing that your milk will drop off - it can't happen. You feed - you make milk - pretty much all there is to it
-
Thats Barb, the Pead suggested stretching his feeds by offering water and dummy more
-
Feed him to sleep, its such a special time.
-
Aww hun don't double guess yourself, sounds like you are doing a fantabulous job!!! Barb is spot on - keep on doing what you are doing and trust that your body and baby know best.
-
What a silly thing to say!
Absolutely agree with Barb - Well done! What a fabulous job you're doing.
-
Just read your post and it sounds like you are doing a great job. Well done.
-
Sounds to me like you and DS are doing a fantastic job! He knows what he needs so I would follow him. What a ridiculous thing for a paed to say, I really hope you will trust your breastfeeding relationship
-
Awesome job. I offered DD3 feeds constantly and she never refused!!! So I just did it and all worked out great
-
Wow Loula, well done! That is a great gain - you are doing such a great job.
What a shame you got such bad advice from the paed. Fancy giving you advice which could reduce your supply when that's something you are already worried about. My advice is to ignore him and keep doing what you are doing - it is obviously working well.
-
Was there any other reason than larger than expected weight gain?
If you do want to stop feeding to sleep then try with a day sleep first - because it's much less annoying to be rocking, taking bub for a walk, or whatever during the day than in the middle of the night...
-
Be proud that bubba's gaining so well! Thats what we all work for!
Bet if he wasn't doing so well the paed would be pushing FF at you.
-
Sounds like the paed has no idea about bf! As I said on FB Erin was a buddha cause she fed so well and now at 10 she is fit and healthy and if anything underweight is its not going to affect him later. I always think with bf babies that its good to have some extra weight on because if they get sick they lose it so quickly.
Ignore him hun you are doing an awesome job!

:bluecheer: yay for booby juice. That is a great gain and I agree I don't think you can overfeed a bf bub. My DS was a budha bubba and is still big for his age but completely in proportion. You are doing a wonderful job and I am glad you are starting to enjoy it as it makes it sooo much easier to do.
-
DS1 was 3.1 kg at birth and was nearly 7 kg by 3 months. Over 9kg by 6 months. DS2 is almost identical on his growth charts. It was never suggested that I should reduce feeds, my paed was really impressed that my boys were gaining like that when they were BF.
Ignore the advice, it is bad advice. If you and bubs are happy then keep doing exactly what you are doing.
-
That's an awesome gain babe! You're doing a fabulous job! xxxx
-
Awesome job! What a stupid thing to do. Have you ever tried to feed him when he wasn't hungry? Anyone who has knows there's no way you can make a baby BF when they don't want to! Trust your boobies and your baby :)
-
Keep doing what you're doing :bluecheer: :bluecheer: You are doing a fantastic job!!!
If I was to make any changes to what you're doing, I'd be finding a new paed. I don't think he has much idea at all.

I'm really glad you posted here Lou, you've received some wonderful support. Sorry I couldn't talk more yesterday, and I wasn't sure if you wanted any comment anyway ;) IYKWIM. I'm not really rapt with the idea of giving such a young breastfed baby water, it's totally unnecessary. He's getting plenty of water via your BM. Go with your gut babe. If you think he would be unsettled with dropping a feed (or if you would be upset), then it's not the right thing to do. You certainly don't NEED to. You've been doing such a brilliant job with your boy, I'd hate to see a spanner thrown in the works
